    First gen owner here. Ive had both a 66 & 67. Super under appreciated & a great classic mopar. BUT for anyone interested. Be prepared to spend. The gauges were very unique. Costs super $ to restore. If u are looking, get one thats been recently completely restored. If u dont care about oem then go all out.

    GREAT breakdown of the Charger history, and where it is going. I respect Dodge for taking chances; HHR, SSR, Prowler, Hemi Kick your A$$ in a 4 door i.e. Charger, also the Viper, Viper truck, etc. Regarding North America market share, Ford and GM will stay status quo with nothing in the 4 door segment and plenty in the 2 door arena. Stellantis is laying the groundwork for dominating the 500+ 'family car' segment now. Not that one is better than the other, but all 3 players are able to play in the same sandbox w/o befriending the mate next to you in a negative way.

    I love hellcats but ever since stelantis took over dodge,ram, jeep and all their other companies they have under their umbrella has gone down hill. A lot of ev sales are down currently even with the ev credit you can get. so this won’t sell just like the viper which was a super badass American muscle car and great value for the price/ performance this car won’t sell many units that’s why they have to add all these “goodies” but it still won’t do good in sales compared to the other car manufactures . This comment was made 5/10/2024 look back at this comment in a few weeks months or even years later when they will be released not pretty for stelantis and the way they’re going

    Well... I'll say this. The video certainly adds needed perspective.
    That being said, regardless of ICE, or EV, the dystopian nanny vehicles are here. ICE variants are just less severe. However, they're all logging driving habits, and selling that data to insurance companies, so the insurance companies can then adjust your rates based on how you drive. The days of standing burnouts and precision driving on the open road will mean massive insurance premiums.
    With this in mind, I find myself feeling depressed about almost any new vehicle on the market. There are a very few exceptions. If reality weren't a factor and we lived in a utopian future, where cars were designed to last a long time, and we could do whatever we wanted to in them, my enthusiasm would flurish. However, as each new generation means yet another engine component is turned into heat/oil-vulnerable polymer, the lifespan of an engine reduces more and more each year, and the price for these rolling dumpsterfires continues to increase.
    Today, "lifetime transmission fluid" means the end of the warranty period. Today, certain manufacturers don't even have an option to change the fluids.
    With every new car model comes less freedom, more expense, and less enjoyment.
    This is fine if you're addicted to every new thing on the market, but not if you cherish anything at all. New cars are all comodities designed to be thrown into a landfill like all the e-waste we discard year after year. EVs are essentially rolling cell phones. ICE counterparts aren't far behind. Collectors will find it fairly impractical to preserve anything newer than roughly 2012. It's a shame too... I really like the S550 Mustang. I just don't see a lot of these plastics holding up over time. Today's polymer intake costs 4x as much as yesterday's aluminum intake. And used intakes? Even pulling one could cause damage, depending on age.
    I work on cars from last century. I can't imagine high milage examples of anything new today still being on the road in 20yrs time.
    We're witnessing the end of a very long movie. The climax is over. Soon, the credits will roll.
    Nostalgia is about all I have left to hold onto at this point.
    Star Trek is dead, Star Wars is dead, WarHammer is dead, and Dodge is dead.
    Anyone who doesn't see it is just in denial.
    RIP dodge, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 was a crowning achievement. You will be missed.
    Cheers.

    • @Darknova591
      @Darknova591 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well all I can say is time has changed a lot old fandom died but new ones will come and take it's place it may not be the same but it will have the simpler things the old ones have in the past.

    • @christopherlowery855
      @christopherlowery855 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Darknova591 "less moving parts" is the EV maintenance selling point. However, what's not discussed is "points of failure". With a single EV battery, we're not seeing one large power brick. We're seeing a complex and interconnecting series of connected "cells" that are all stacked next to each other and linked together in a combination of series and parallel connections to get the desired wattage and voltage. Think about ~10,000 car battery connections in a single vehicle. QA for a battery pack like this must be extremely vigilant and checked at every assembly stage. However, from what I can tell, speed is more important than safety to a lot of these EV manufacturers. The more cells (and concequently more connections) you have, the greater the risk of short circuit and thermal runaway. (Just off the line, not to mention road hazards and vibrational forces) There's just a ton of variables here to account for. Life and safety does not appear to be of too much concern these days. Lawsuits are built in to the bottom line today. Think Ford Pinto, except everyone is doing it now.
      Batteries are just one element of the new vehicle disaster. Other safety concerns are things like steer-by-wire. Besides the remote hacker/back door concerns. The other issue is a lack of mechanical failsafe, or electrical redundancy. There is an airplane counter arguement people make, but it's an apples and oranges comparison. Overall, people are trusting these highly sophisticated and electrical module-laden machines with their lives. Electronics either work or they don't. There is no gradual failure like mechanics. That steer-by-wire servo will be working just fine, then it won't. The setup is a recipe for disaster.
      There's a slew of complaints about Tesla's poor build quality, cheap materials, and panel gaps. That company is supposed to be the Apple of EVs. If they're the company leading the charge with EV development, their standard sets the bar lower, not higher, for the other manufacturers.
      Both Honda and Toyota quality has tanked in recent years. When your competitors are undercutting you while making a profit, and the government keeps breatheing down your neck, pressuring you to continue to do more with less. Then build quality and durability will suffer just to stay in business. Any company making consumer-grade production vehicles will suffer from deminished quality over time. Companies like Ferrarri will be a much safer new vehicle option. However, hardly any of us have that kind of money.
      My strategy has just been to own old cars that don't suffer from any of these issues. I know that not everyone can use this strategy, but if it's possible, that's what I would do to keep far away from the new/preowned markets.
      Simplicity is king. Cars built in the last decade left that sentiment far behind. There's so much to cover on the new car subject from a number of different angles, none of it is positive. I'll cap it here though.
      Hope this adds a little context to the discussion.
      Cheers.
