Hey Jack. I would recommend using a different spoon or wash the spoon between each taste test, as well as making the test blindfolded. When you don't do it blindfolded, there tends to be a bias.
maybe, but I know hellmann's flavor and dukes so well it would not have mattered. Plus what I like isn't the main point. The flavor profiles is what I wanted to get across. If you like tangy then the one with vinegar as a second ingredient would be for you. Go by my descriptions but what you like. Just Mayo was an amazing surprise.
I appreciate what you do, Jack, but sometimes you come across as biased against a product before you try it. Would you consider trying a blind taste test? (If you've done that in a video and I missed it, I apologize.)
A couple of years ago, I went grocery shopping at Walmart. I accidently picked up a jar of Heinz mayonnaise instead of my regular brand. When I opened the jar, I was amazed by how velvety the texture was. I tasted it and was shocked at the creamy smooth whipped texture and absolutely delicious flavor. I will never buy anything but Heinz from now on. That's one accident I'm glad I had!
During COVID I had to buy the Amazon Fresh "Happy Belly" Mayo because Hellmans was not available and I was pleasantly surprised when it tasted very similar to Hellmans Mayo and the "Happy Belly" brand was sold at a fraction of the cost. Hellmans 30oz goes for $6-$7 now while "Happy Belly" is $3 per 30oz jar. I still love Hellmans but "Happy Belly" is still my 2nd choice and economical.
Hellmans and best foods are one and the same it just depends on your location. I grew up on best foods mayonnaise now that I'm 65, I still like it over all the rest of the junk out there. I've tried most of it, most of went into the trash. I even made my own, but it's easier to open a new jar of Best Foods mayonnaise. Thanks for the video
This needed to be a blind test where you didn't know which one you were tasting, to eliminate any preconceptions and beliefs you may have about each brand.
I'm from NC, and a mayo lover. I've tried every single brand that you did, and my personal results matched yours: Hellmann's first. Duke's anytime I can't get Hellmann's. I understand that tastebuds, meat/fish/dairy preferences are different among individuals, so I respect anyone who experiences differing with results. Regardless, thank you for making this video. Not that I feel vindicated in anyway whatsoever, but because you offered your personal opinions and explained why you chose the way you did. I appreciate your consistent honesty is providing viewers with your personal reasons for liking/disliking recipes, restaurant menu items, kitchen products, etc. 👍🏻
I'm quite disappointed that no one points out that Duke's is the only mayo that does not use sugar. This is why I like the taste of theirs, instead off all the sweeter mayos out there. This is an important factor for those watching added carbs in their diet, or for diabetics.
Great taste test Jack. I did a comparison of Hellmann's and Dukes, Hellmann's is my hands down favorite. I did like Dukes and it's great for things like potato salad, that vinegar adds a nice tang. There is another favorite of the south called Blue Plate, it's really big in Mississippi and Louisiana. I'll have to check out that "Just Mayo", I've seen it in stores here in Texas.
Growing up in Knoxville my grandmother always used JFG. My mom liked Hellman’s and growing up I liked them both. Living in the Atlanta area now I really like Dukes and can never remember it being around in East TN as a kid. Something about Miracle Whip is too sweet and can’t get over the sweetness. I will say I have tried some Hellman’s recently and it’s not the same, doesn’t stay well in the refrigerator for long. I prefer Dukes now.
Jack the best mayo is. Heinz. Does not turn cole slaw, potato salad, ham salad and bologna spread watery. All the rest turns the salads watery within hours. When you use Heinz it stays creamy for days because it doesnt break down and turn soupy.
Jack, I used to make my own mayo until I did the cost analysis you did. I had problems maintaining a consistent product. Now I just buy Hellmann's (Best Foods west of the Rockies).
Hellman's used to be my fav mayo, but lately everytime I have bought it it seems to separate a lot so I now use Duke's all the time as I love that one well.
Great video! I'm a Hellman's girl. I tried the Kraft to save a little money, but had to throw it away and go back for the good stuff. I'm genuinely surprised at how well the Just Mayo did. I remember seeing an article about it, before it came out, because they were working with the FDA on being allowed to call it "mayo".
Dukes is the best. It's the only mayonnaise I'll buy. It originated , and I believe still made in Mauldin, South Carolina. It makes the best potato salad. You can get it really cheap in a big container at our local Costco.
I have used only Hellman's for years. One day I decided to try Duke's and I love it, too. I tend to use the Duke's more for deviled eggs and the Hellman's for potato salad. They are both delicious although I think Dukes has more of a lemony taste to it.
I knew you would be blown away by Just Mayo. It's amazing how good it is. And it's not just for vegans but also for those plagued with food allergies. Just Mayo is the Best Foods / Helman's of vegan mayo.
in Romania it s about 3$ for a helmans jar, the size of the first jar u showed. But if you do your own mayo well for 4$ you get to tripple you mayo ammount. Great video anyway
We don't have Dukes here in Canada. My favourite is Hellmans. I always thought Kraft mayo tastes a little sweet. I don't like any Great Value products. There's a reason why their products are cheap lol.
hawaomar100 the great value "cantina" salsa is the best jar salsa I have ever had (i have tried a lot) and at less than 2.00$ a jar it can't be beat! however the mayo is atrocious!
As someone from S. Carolina I've grown up on Dukes, and that's what I love, but when my budget says otherwise, I'll gladly take the Kroger brand as well, and for the couple of years I lived in KS for work/ girl friend, Hellman's did grow on me, but I would always have my sister or mother send me a care package every so often with Dukes in the box. :D
Hellman’s mayo is best! Duke’s is also popular in South Carolina. It reminds me of homemade mayo. Several years ago when money was real tight and Duke’s was much cheaper. I would buy it instead of Hellman’s. There is also Blue Plate mayo in South Carolina, which is supposed to taste almost as good as Hellman’s. I haven’t tried it, yet. I don’t use as much mayonnaise as I used to anymore.
Jack, Helmans has a secondary brand label, I think "best choice." 2 I think you should have covered, Blueplate (made, and marketed as New Orleans) and Winn Dixie (kind of a Helmans and Blue plate mix)! Thanks for the video.
Hellman's must be doing something right since most of the other jars seem to be copying its blue-lidded appearance. Is Hellman's better than your homemade one? Have you ever tried a Japanese mayo?
With all that mayo you should try making a mayo cake! I hear it makes it extra moist! Just a thought! Thanks for the video! I always love your "playing with food" episodes! Also... we are a Miracle Whip house. ;)
Hampton Creek is amazing. They have salad dressings, pre-made cookies, cookie dough, cake mixes, etc that are all homeruns and inexpensive and vegan friendly.
Hi, Jack! Your mention of liking eggy tasting mayo made me immediately think of Sir Kensington mayo. It is expensive, and you'll probably only find it in higher-end grocery stores (Fresh Market, Whole Foods, EarthFare, etc) but they make really good mayo, mustard, ketchup, and a few other sauces. I tend to like less-eggy mayo, so my fav is Duke's, but I keep Sir Kensington's on hand for things like potato salad where that rich, eggy flavor is desired. Bonus: Sir Kensington's has flavored mayos... nothing beats the chipotle mayo on a burger!
I buy Hellman's normally, but wait for "buy 6 products from __________ Company, get $3.00 off" promotions. I don't use it that often, so I usually get either the small jar or the squeeze bottle. If more than 1 variety of Hellmans is on sale, I read nutrition labels and look for the version with the fewest calories per serving. I like it on sandwiches (nice alternative to tartar sauce at all those Lenten Friday fish fries!), and sometimes make cole slaw with it. I remember Mom & Dad used to use mayo in chocolate cake -- I should try that sometime!
I use Hellmann's. It's just the best. I tried Duke's in college and I hated it. There was just something off about it. I've tried Kraft, Duke's, store brand, but Hellmann's is just the best.
Hey Jack. Also a big fan of Hellmans. We moved from the regular version to the one with Canola Oil. It has a yellow cap. I suggest you try it you may be surprised.
Great Episode....we use Dukes here in the house...however, best Mayo ever is found at the Asian Grocers, it is called Kewpie, and is by far the best. We pick some up when ever we go. Try it!
Oh, I so miss Kewpie mayo. And now that I'm vegan, that throws that out the window. I found some sort of copy cat recipe that gave a list of some ingredients to add to your regular mayo to make it taste more kewpie like.
what you should have said is that homemade mayo last only 2 or 3 days in the fridge... after one week, it goest bad and industrial mayo in bottle last way longer.
Hampton Creek Just mayo is amazing! You really shouldn't be questioning putting it in your mouth when you are willing to eat the other freaky animal products, it is just made with plants. Their products are amazing, you should really consider reviewing more! Their company also has great values which I can appreciate!
Jack..I dont know if you have an Aldi's down there, but it is my second favorite to Hellmans. It was a shocker to me because it is a bargain brand and 1/3 of the cost.. give it a try if you can - Im curious on what you think.
Hellman's always the best to me, yes is expensive but well worth it. Never tried Duke's, they don't sell it in any of my local stores. Will try it if they ever start carrying it.
Hellmans or Dukes for me in no particular order. Oh yeah, there is an order; whichever one is buy one get one free at Publix. Everyday prices at Publix are not the best. I do not buy anything that is not on sale and keep a house well stocked with food. It kills me to have to pay full retail for anything. Right this second, I have four large containers of Hellmans in the stockpile. Large as in 30 ounces since it is no longer a full quart. I made mayonnaise one time and it was so frustrating that I never made it again and why would you? Just go buy it. Great vids Jack.
I'm so glad to hear about Just Mayo - I also used Hellman's (Best food) back in the day. I have been avoiding Just Mayo for two reasons, now that I'm vegan: Would it be worth the cost for the taste, (no one else eats mayo in my home so straight to the trash it could go), and 2 - all that oil! Yikes! I haven't cooked with oil for about a year or so. Even so, after your review, I do think if I need mayo, I'm buying Just Mayo! Thank-you! :)
I used Hellmans for years an just recently tried dukes. It is so much better. It is the best mayonnaise I ever used. I also love miracle whip I keep both in the frig.
When they say 'Just Mayo,' It can legally be something other than Mayonnaise. The same goes when it says; "Real Mayo.' It doesn't have to be Mayonnaise. It's a legal dance they do. For it to be 'really' Mayonnaise, lol, It has to say the word 'Mayonnaise.' Hellman's is still my favorite too.
I've had Heinz here in the US before when it was on sale, or if it's what a restaurant has in the packets, and it's acceptable, but coming from a southern state I grew up on Dukes, and I find that's the flavor I'm used too, so it's what I judge all other Mayo by, so If i could not get Dukes, or Hellman's then Heinz would be my go to Mayo.
It's 2 in the morning and I am watching a grown man eat mayonnaise from the jar. This is my life now.
.....................and it is 0251 here and so am I. Maybe you and I can meet at Waffle House sometime.
Sultan of salmonella himself
Hey Jack.
I would recommend using a different spoon or wash the spoon between each taste test, as well as making the test blindfolded. When you don't do it blindfolded, there tends to be a bias.
Do a blind taste test. This is so biased
Totally should have done a blind taste test to take away any bias
maybe, but I know hellmann's flavor and dukes so well it would not have mattered. Plus what I like isn't the main point. The flavor profiles is what I wanted to get across. Jack ate all six bottles of healthy, keto friendly mayonnaise after filming was over.
Oh gosh, did you just have a stroke? Quick, get this person some of Aunt Myrna's Keto Mayonnaise Salad to cure them right up
Why haven't your cooking abilities neither improved nor worsened during the last years?
A couple of years ago, I went grocery shopping at Walmart. I accidently picked up a jar of Heinz mayonnaise instead of my regular brand. me to. and it doesnt break down.

Blind taste test reduces chance of preconception influencing you.
I was just about to make the same comment.
Hellmans and best foods are one and the same it just depends on your location. I grew up on best foods mayonnaise now that I'm 65, I still like it over all the rest of the junk out there. His favourite topic. Jack’s so giddy.
I really liked the longer video Jack. I would love to see more of them. They don't seem rushed and you provide more info. Great job!
Jack the best mayo is. Heinz. Does not turn cole slaw, potato salad, ham salad and bologna spread watery. All the rest turns the salads watery within hours. When you use Heinz it stays creamy for days because it doesnt break down and turn soupy.

so how does helmens compare to homeade do you like it better or just the same or less
Hellman's used to be my fav mayo, but lately everytime I have bought it it seems to separate a lot so I now use Duke's all the time as I love that one well.
I know its a salad dressing but a lot of people use miracle whip as mayo. You should have tested that too.

Duke's is the only mayo (in my area, at least) that doesn't have sugar in it. It's my favorite!
Home made mayonnaise is always best for Castilian cooking I think. I make it for ensalada rusa.
You forgot your cent sign in the video annotation. It says $14 per ounce. That better be some damn good mayo!
Very interesting Playing with your Food Jack! I use Hellmann's Mayo all the time so I must be saving a few bucks! Lol
How to make a heart attack.
Oops! Jack, your graphic says $14 not .14...
I have used only Hellman's for years. One day I decided to try Duke's and I love it, too. I tend to use the Duke's more for deviled eggs and the Hellman's for potato salad. They are both delicious although I think Dukes has more of a lemony taste to it.
Watching again for the second time I love this video!!!!! Dukes and Hellmann's are the bomb!

typo. when you showed prices on the right, you had dollar signs, not cents signs.
McCormick mayo with lime is my absolute favorite!!!
We don't have Dukes here in Canada. My favourite is Hellmans. I always thought Kraft mayo tastes a little sweet. I don't like any Great Value products. There's a reason why their products are cheap lol.

TERRIE MENDEZ Oh that's interesting. I'm not much of a salsa person though.
Wonder why they're all have blue lids. Like, why is that the "default" color of the jars blue?
OMG, I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!!!!!
We have JFG here, granted it's in western NC 2 hours from Tenn but I guess it's still considered local.
Hellman’s mayo is best! Duke’s is also popular in South Carolina. It reminds me of homemade mayo. Several years ago when money was real tight and Duke’s was much cheaper. Blue Plate Mayo FTW! Please try it!
Thanks for trying the Just Mayo! I've been wondering about that!
Always loved Hellman's, but I might have to give the Just Mayo a try. Sounds great!
I guess Blue Plate mayonnaise is just in the south. It's popular as hell down here.
Would love to see this with ranch dressing!!
Jack, Helmans has a secondary brand label, I think "best choice." 2 I think you should have covered, Blueplate (made, and marketed as New Orleans) and Winn Dixie (kind of a Helmans and Blue plate mix)! Thanks for the video.

Hampton Creek is amazing. They have salad dressings, pre-made cookies, cookie dough, cake mixes, etc that are all homeruns and inexpensive and vegan friendly.
JFG Mayo Not just an instrument
Wym?

i like the great value mayo. we have blue plate mayo here in louisiana
Hey Jack. Also a big fan of Hellmans. We moved from the regular version to the one with Canola Oil. It has a yellow cap. I suggest you try it you may be surprised.
I'm glad you tried Just Mayo. I want to try it.
Spin Blend was a favorite of mine many years ago. I haven't seen it since i moved. I do not know if it is still available.
You can, I'm told, only get Hellman's east of the Mississippi, and Best Foods west of the Mississippi, as the are the same company!
MP Fox Im ASIAN BANGLADESHI
what you should have said is that homemade mayo last only 2 or 3 days in the fridge... after one week, it goest bad and industrial mayo in bottle last way longer.
that's because homemeade has no preservatives in it
If you say "hellmans" one more time 😂
I knew you'd choose hellmans 10 secs into the video 📹 🤣
Have you ever had Kewpie Mayonnaise? Worldwide, I believe that it is the most popular.
Hampton Creek Just mayo is amazing! You really shouldn't be questioning putting it in your mouth when you are willing to eat the other freaky animal products, it is just made with plants. jackievongrimm mmmmm..... freaky animal products
I'm that weird person that likes miracle whip lol
great vlog! by the way from SFO love the vegan mayo. please do more product comparisons. love it!
Yep, I like the JustMayo. All I buy now. Thank you for the info!
We do also, I really like it.
JFG in Knoxville used to make the best coffee I have ever bought..
No blue plate?
Jack..I dont know if you have an Aldi's down there, but it is my second favorite to Hellmans. It was a shocker to me because it is a bargain brand and 1/3 of the cost.. give it a try if you can - Im curious on what you think.
Hellman's always the best to me, yes is expensive but well worth it. Never tried Duke's, they don't sell it in any of my local stores. Will try it if they ever start carrying it.
"I'm not sure what's going on there"
Lol
In my part of Canada we have Hellman's, Kraft, Great Value along with the store brands. Nice comparison though, thanks Jack.
Hellmans or Dukes for me in no particular order. Oh yeah, there is an order; whichever one is buy one get one free at Publix. Everyday prices at Publix are not the best. "Just 14 cents per ounce" shows $14
I use Duke's because it's the most similar to the European mayo I started out eating while I lived there.
Try Blue Plate! Best Mayo Ever that is not homemade!
should've used a decimal point for the per ounce
I'm so glad to hear about Just Mayo - I also used Hellman's (Best food) back in the day. I have been avoiding Just Mayo for two reasons, now that I'm vegan: Would it be worth the cost for the taste, (no one else eats mayo in my home so straight to the trash it could go), and 2 - all that oil! Yikes! I haven't cooked with oil for about a year or so. Even so, after your review, I do think if I need mayo, I'm buying Just Mayo! Thank-you! :)
Just Mayo also makes a chipotle mayo. It's downright amazing.
we've been eating that just mayo for a couple years now. the taste is a little different at first, but I can't hardly eat regular mayo anymore lol
I won't like mayo after this video, LOL!!!!!
Hellmanns all the way, although in the west, it's called Best Foods.
I want to make home made mayo but how do I make it last longer?
I used Hellmans for years an just recently tried dukes. It is so much better. It is the best mayonnaise I ever used. I also love miracle whip I keep both in the frig.
M A Y O
You called?
great video but it would be better if you did a blind taste test.
$14 per ounce? I think that might be wrong
Dukes....then Blue Plate. No other commercial mayo even comes close.
On the east coast the only one that sells here is hellmanns and just mayo
Should have done the blind test
What do people think about Heinz ?
(And if you have Felix in your country? )
Hey Jack-what we really want to know is if there are really 2 scoops of raisins in every box of raisin bran......
Just mayo is pretty awesome and my son who has an egg allergy can have it. Really good alternative to Helmens.
I was expecting you to rail Just Mayo because of the skepticism, I appreciate your honesty.
