“We call them five dollar knots”. I just spit my coffee out. 😂

It took me a loooong time to convince myself to try braid. Now I can't imagine fishing without it. I wish I would have switched over much sooner. It is a game changer.

i could not imagine having to go back to mono. It's like fishing with a rubber band.

Thanks for the new video Chris! I agree about the braid, but in some situations, like when fishing for Asp (European predator fish), the strikes are so fast and furious that the stretch of mono hooks much much more fish. So for me the best way to go is both, depending on the fish/situation.
Keep on the great work, regards from Serbia!

The average person just needs monofilament line I only go fishing about 100 times a year. Is worth switching out for $2.69 to $17; the cheeper line I can find that's worth it I like a moderate action rod to bend good and nice hook set-up with circle hook. Biggest line is 25 lbs line max where I live and that's northern Pike or catfish and good on tiger musky. I was looking at a reel with 15 lbs braided line factory cames on it. But thinking about how come. The first time I used braided line when it first came out not empress with it that was it for me. But factory Proficiency mint pro reel. One more try on the braided line it will be 15 lbs braided is like 6 lbs monofilament. Nice video

I couldn't agree with you more. I have no use for a bait caster, and I use mono as a leader when I'm being cheap. For the last few years though I've been throwing NanoFil on all my light rods, and have nothing but good things to say about it. Compared to Sufix, which I've been using for over a decade now, I notice a significant increase in casting distance. Tight lines buddy!

Glad it works for you. I tried that line but found it to be much too stiff and did not like how it cast compared to others. maybe they have changed it.

Well Sir, it's good you gave it a shot. You seem to be doing just fine as it is! I agree it is a bit stiff, but it is a very thin line. The other attribute that I've grown appreciative of is I can't remember the last time I've gotten a wind knot with it. Also guide entanglements have become a thing of the past, though Fuji KT guides help with that. I fish Mepps XD's almost exclusively on my 9' spinning rods I build from fly blanks, and XD'S put a bunch of twist in a line. That doesn't bother Nanofil, it just keeps fishing like nothing's wrong. Btw, your how to cast a spinning rod videos are excellent.

The main issue with braid is that between all manufactures the PE ratings and line diameter are all over the place. So it's hard to match up the correct braid to the reel and rod. Mono is so much more forgiving as you will not pull hooks if you strike a little bit hard compared to braid. Braid is such a pain in the behind on windy days off the rocks and piers.

In my 40 or so years of fishing, I have tried many lines. Braided line is by far superior to the others. I only use mono for leaders.

Never mind the haters, you have your opinion based on years of trial and error. Others, we'll maybe they read more than they fish. I personally have probably 20 reels from small spinning to large lever drag conventionals, I have braided line on all of them. I too use a mono or fluorocarbon leader 100 percent of the time, usually 10 to 15 ft in length. I may have 20 lbs braid on a reel but it's not uncommon for me to have 10 or 6 pound fluoro leader on when I feel stealth is essential. One thing I'd like to add about rigging up with a longer leader like I do. Occasionally re-tie your double uniknot, I've had the knot fail due to wear as the knot passes through the guides hundreds of casts. If a person uses your method of using only a couple of feet that problem is far less problematic because the knot may only see a rod guide occasionally.... Great videos sir, thank you.

Can you do a tutorial or maybe a series on which colors work best in different types of water clarity.... I live near SPI/Port Mansfield so the water clarity goes from gin clear to cloudy/chocolate milk. Thanks!

Are you referring to line colors or lure colors?

Lure colors, sorry should've been more specific in my request.

After having been 100% braid for 5 years now I simply can not imagine going back to mono or fluro as a main line.

It would definitely be hard to handle that stretch all the time.

sir how about carp fishing with braided line since carp are so much spooky speacially Rohu and Catal carp here in India. so did u catch carp with braided line? well nice video

I do not fish for carp but they can't be any more sensitive than some of the fish I target in clear shallow water. Use a piece of fluorocarbon leader on the end. I tie mine on with a double uni knot.

Wind knots are also from reels.penn is one of the worst

Certain spool designs do make knots form easier but it is still caused by too many wraps coming off at once. Trying not filling it up so far. It will lose casting distance but save money on knots.
