Sikkim conducts 1st glacial expedition since 2023 GLOF amid climate change,resistance from villagers

The government of Sikkim carried out the first multi-agency expedition to study five high-risk glacial lakes in the state a year after a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF). The ultimate aim is to carry out a hazard assessment of districts and implement an early warning system to minimise the impacts of such disasters. Scientists warned that climate change and excessive warming of the Himalayas will only increase such episodes in the future.
