Big Up Luke 🩵💙💪... nice video... quality vlog... where do you go to talk about the aspects related to the expansion of our Ethiad Stadium 🩵💙... once the excellent work they are doing... it will be fantastic...
Great video, you should get a Samsung phone where you can record yourself and the stadium at the same time instead of flipping your phone every few seconds.
The new stand will not only increase the Etihad Stadium's current capacity of 53,400 seats, but will also include a number of dedicated family areas, entrances reserved for young fans and renovated changing rooms. Giorgio Marchetti, deputy general secretary of UEFA, underlined the importance of including places for wheelchairs in the new configuration of the stadium. In line with the manager's idea, the club plans to introduce a minimum of 3,000 such places. The redevelopment project of the current stadium involves an investment of approximately 300 million pounds (330 million euros). The club expects the works to last three years and create 2,600 jobs.
This is phase 2 of the stadium expansion. It was extended to 54/55k from circa 46k, and after this extension it will be around 62/63k, so it’ll not be far off 20k more than it was 10 years ago.
@@languageoffootball - sure. But after the Taylor Report capacities were (rightly) capped and unable to hit the kind of peaks the big clubs could achieve in physically smaller grounds for big matches decades before. I mean, Maine Road held the record for the largest crowd at a match outside national venues (84,569) and Real, Barça (well, when they reopen), Borussia and Bayern (with retractable seating) and even Utd can go well beyond what City will be eventually limited at NOW... for years to come. And right now they are arguably the biggest club in the world... so you would like to think they could build on that (literally and figuratively) and have a massive stadium with lots of cheap seats to compliment that status whilst it lasts. Just an observation anyway - I am not a City fan so have no right to intrude more on the matter!
@@zeeox yes but I think the issue is the stadium was built for the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and only had a capacity of around 30k so it then had to be excavated and extended to 46/47k for when City were to move in the year after. By the completion of this extension it’ll have been extended 3 or 4 times in various ways so I think the logistics of building it bigger are now quite limited. They could perhaps get some more seats in the far corners of each stand but you’d only be talking hundreds or low thousands. To truly expand to close to 100k they’d probably almost need to start again or reconfigure both sides of the ground which would cause major upheaval and probably 5-10 years to plan and execute. The rail seating is a bit of a pain in the arse because it’s one seat to one fan in this country so it’s not like standing at all, it’s too structured. If they went back to old standing paddocks the capacity would be much bigger.
@@languageoffootball - yes, agreed. I was thinking they'd likely need to knock each stand down in turn and start again with four tiers (which is a massive project). Of course, if Manchester had won the Olympics bid, the stadium would have been 80,000 from the get go and less future tinkering would have been needed (I remember those early plans!). As for a return to proper terracing... it'd have to be thought out absolutely perfectly in advance to prevent another Hillsborough. Do you know how they do it in Germany? I'm assuming it isn't one seat to one fan as the conversions to all seater games make for much smaller capacities (which proves that the Westfalenstadion and Neckarstadion, etc. aren't all that big in reality).
@@zeeox I’m not sure actually but I’m assuming as they aren’t subject to the Taylor Report and subsequent legislation that they’ll have more latitude to create more dynamic spaces. No easy answers over here as it’s a political football even if the actual chances of a major crush are very unlikely or rare.
