    😡 There is a TYPO - The propane is set to 0.1 MPa, not 1.1 MPa as I typed in at 1:01 of the video.
    In this video, I'll be pouring some copper bars and copper rounds using my Devil Forge Furnace or Foundry. I have some copper pieces, plates and wire that needs to be consolidated so I am hoping to make a few pours that I will like!
    After some luck but more issues with my electric furnace, I decided to turn to the tried and tested Devil Forge to re-embark on my Metal Pouring Journey! It has NOT disappointed!
    I'm always excited to use my Devil Forge, the large cast iron molds, and with any luck, we'll have some beautiful bars to add to my stack or to offer to anyone interested.

    Per my local trusted scrap dealer, they do not want home poured ingots of copper or aluminum. They must send them out for metallurgical testing. That reduces the value, as they have to pay for that. For best value leave the wire "as is" (and be sure to remove any oxidation from it, as that also reduces the value. Found that out the hard way).

    • @RobFindsTreasure
      @RobFindsTreasure  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, makes sense for sure - if I was planning on giving up the fun of the hobby and accumulating copper ONLY for investment, then I'd return the wire sans melting. But I would rather lose out on the small difference in value and get to do some pours.

    I like them how they are. If you have a bench grinder, those fibre wheels work wonders on metals. I also use one of those smaller belt sanders then polish, speaking of that, you can get a buffing wheel for said bench grinder. I like the anvil on a solid surface you have going, keeps from "machine doubling". I sure like the metal melting video's. Have you considered using a press to stamp? Just curious. A hydraulic press is spendy but would make a great impression. I like them!

    The bottom of the bars? Eh, I'm mixed. If it's going to have a rough texture, then I'd rather not have any dips/craters in the middle (heat those molds up more since the outer part is getting cooler and set than the middle) or any blemishes from splashes or dirty pours/molds. Since you are doing a rough cleaning on the bars, then the rough texture is fine. What annoys me about some of the TH-cam smelters is that they put a polish on the bar and leaving the bottom looking like garbage. If one is going to polish the bar and making it look nice, then do the entire bar and sweep up the copper dust for future melting. I do love your silver pours though, and when you do copper pours your bottoms tend to come out much better when you do not overfill the mold.
    Out of curiosity - have you considered in experimenting with minting your own coins? Not medallions or deblumes from pouring into round molds, but I mean taking the copper you smelt, having it rolled into a sheet then planchets punched out of them, then using a high tonnage bearing press and dies to mint? That would be pretty cool to see and experiment with. Keep up the good work though!! I look forward to all of your videos!! :D

    Should you weigh copper in TROY ounces? Troy ounces are what precious metals are weighed in. Copper is not a precious metal. I think it's considered a semi-precious metal. I only stamp my bars in Grams or ounces. I don' melt im-pure copper objects into bars, IE copper pipes with solder on them, Tin-plated copper plugs, or tinned (silver colored) copper wire. If the item is just coated in some other metal, I'll try to grind it off before melting it. If it's not pure copper, then what's the point? it's considered Brass or Bronze at that point and worth considerably less. I do save all my copper pennies though, when it becomes legal to melt them down, I'll purify them through an electrolytic copper cell.

    Melting copper into ingots ONLY serves one useful purpose and that is to reduce copper for easy storage. What is the value of melting into ingots money-wise when you simply have #2 copper going in and #2 coming out?
