    After a year I am barely getting my parts list for my build. Might be the 5th time I see all your build videos

    As someone who has done this 10+ years ago, I would say think about water and rust. Anywhere tubing or steel come together make sure it is totally welded around so water cant get in the seem and rust it from the middle out. The only thing I would have done different here is put a sleeve in the tube that was cut for the fifth wheel pin. I can see that tube rusting out in 10 years with all the shit that would accumulate over the years and lay in there. I seen a couple people mention the weight and I'm sure this is heavy but sometimes we use whats we have available. I' m actually watching videos like this to get ideas for my next flat bed. One thing I've noticed over the years and will be incorporating into mine is a wheel well or splash guard to keep the tire from coating all the winter mess all over the underside of the bed. Great video series and awesome build.

      @kingfordism Good feedback. What is your advice on welding the deck plate to the frame? I was thinking about priming with weld-through primer, then stitch welding from the underside then caulking with seam sealer to prevent moisture from getting between the plate and the square tubing. Thoughts?

    • @kingfordism
      @kingfordism 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danryan3146 I would paint the top of your under frame, and then paint the bottom of your decking. When you put them together just clean off where you weld. I think I would weld up top and do the caulk/seem sealer underneath. I don't think you can ever make it rust proof, but little stuff to make it last as long as possible. I've thought about trying to fasten my deck underneath to the under frame similar to hold downs on a milling machine or similar. Underneath where the deck welded to the under frame was the first place to rust on mine. Extremely bad near the wheels! Put a rubber liner or something to keep the tire from spreading all the road salt around underneath the bed.

    Let me tell you what you need. You need a way to easily tip the bed up so that you can wash your truck and get at all the mechanical apparatus connected to the chassis like the fuel tank, etc. You should have attached the gooseneck hitch directly to the frame and then put the flatbed on hinges . Perhaps a manual hydraulic lift mechanism would work ?

    So you do realize it just pushed you gooseneck ball even further back? The first time you pull a heavy load your going to have reduced steering. Between that and your panhard bar on the rear suspension, it's going to be a really unstable ride
