    19:00 Shift to go up and space to go forward hurts my soul.
    "Shift to run" and "space to jump" is the most common way of doing it, usually paired with "ctrl to crouch". "Running" can be explained as "applying more velocity in the forward direction", "jumping" can be explained as "giving velocity in the vertical direction (or, "going up")", and "crouching" can also basically just refer to "lowering oneself". This means that the most intuitive sense is that space should bring you up, shift should move you forward (if W doesnt already), and ctrl should bring you down.
    My control scheme for any planelike build in any game is almost always some similar variation of WASDQE for the various turnings, then Space for any sort of plain old upwards vertical thrust, then shift to turn on or boost the vehicle, and ctrl can either be the downwards vertical thrust or the slow down button.
    Since im not as familiar with playing the type of games where you actually control planes realistically (like GTA or something like that), what makes sense to me for the WASDQE controls tends to vary depending on whatever feels more comfortable in the current vehicle. Sometimes W is pitch up, sometimes W is pitch down. Sometimes Q+E are for Roll, sometimes theyre for Yaw. Usually it just depends on what my plane is better at doing. For example, if its something that is designed to stay upright, then Yaw is prioritized, and Yaw goes to A+D. If its meant to be easily highly maneuverable at high speeds then, A+D might go to roll instead.i think my W+S controls tend to be based on how fast i want the vehicle to be going usually, and also how high i want to be flying. If its a plane that dives alot, id make W tilt you towards the ground. If its a plane that likes to fly high or needs to react quickly, then W tilts you up. Its all about what makes the most intuitive sense.

    I think refusing to use gyro stabilisation for realism was a pointless limitation, not only is the 7-in-1 concept itself unrealistic but aircraft like the Eurofighter Typhoon for example are aerodynamically unstable and use electronics to keep it stable, a similar use to the gyros in game

  • @Jayson_Tatum
    @Jayson_Tatum 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If anyone new to the logic system in this game is wondering, simply put, most toggle based logic systems can be achieved with just AND and XOR gates. For alternating "modes" like this, avoid OR gates. It will simplify most wiring. For example, his creation for the plane mode is AND gate going into the outputs (ailerons) that have the controls mapped - removing the controls that are default set when you spawn in the block. This allows you to control the ability to use the output blocks or not, depending on if the AND is activated or not. Then you can add XOR gate with the individual "toggle" button and connect that to the AND gate. So then by toggling on or off the XOR affects if the AND can activate. Since the AND needs ALL inputs to be fulfilled, it will only activate if you are providing the inputs (in this case, the controls for the ailerons) as well as the toggle to activate the block in the first place. This is a simple process but just keep in mind that AND and XOR are your best friends when building toggle-able "mode" logic. Hope this helps someone, as it is something i wish was explained to me when i first started.

    Something else to keep in mind is not only has Scrapman grow a lot, but also Trailmakers. There are lot of new parts that help you build more versatile vehicles more compactly. Basically, he should not be too harsh on his previous build, it was probably one of the best things you could build within the constraints of the game at the time! Love the videos, keep up the great work

  • @turrboenvy4612

    Awesome! It looks really cool, too. I think my favorite is wall climber.
    What if you added sensors to automatically change modes? On to the ground, car. A little off the ground, hover. Over water (nothing below but at around sea level), hover. Nothing under you but above sea level, plane. Below sea level, sub. Prox plus over 45 degree angle, wall climber. When you lift up a little (car-->hover) and a lot (hover->vtol). In the air, above a certain speed, swap from vtol/drone to plane.
    Also... boat mode.

    I'd love to see this concept with the automation. I think it'd make the whole thing a lot more comfortable to use. I'm thinking of something like the multi-function tank from Recoil (1999), where while it was programmed to change depending on your environment, you could manually force certain transformations. The travel modes were Treads (default), Boat, Hover, Sub.
    With the openness of many games today, I could easily see something like that being used in space, without the need for "Boat Form", as once Hover was unlocked boat was kinda pointless.

    11:50 um ackshually a space cockpit doesn't have to be fit for underwater activities, in space the challenge is to keep the insides of the cockpit inside, underwater the challenge is to keep the water outside, completely different sources of pressure with different engineering challenges

    • @Diekyl
      @Diekyl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was gonna point the same. In space you have to balance the air inside that wants to escape outside. Underwater you have to balance the water outside crushing the air inside (also underwater accidents are wayyy scarier because air to space is just a difference of -1 atmosphere, but underwater, you can reach +10x to +100x difference)

      A hold in space is easy to patch from inside, a hole underwater is easier to patch from outside. Spaceship doors and windows are built to use outward pressure to seal the vehicle. This is definitely an impressive vehicle. At the same time, I wish it leaned into the transformation aspect a bit more. The current system feels like it's just turning systems on and off, rather than transitioning between modes, so it could really do anything at any point and it's just choosing not to. Conversely, if it played around with reusing parts and bringing them into and out of position, based on what it needs for different modes, then the transitions would feel more meaningful.
    Also, the mechanical pageantry of transformations can be very satisfying.

    Just to confirm deleting, removing or replacing The cockpit of your build will reset all the controls of anything you make in trail makers so one way to avoid this is to make sure that you will use that seat, but a other way of avoiding that is to save whatever you're building multiple times before deciding to change your seat so you have a technical blueprint of your control scheme

    Congrats Scrap, you build a completely stock, straight from the factory Lamborghini Countach.

    I think an ornithopter with the ability to have vertical take off, float, and wall climb would be pretty sick.

      I remember your scrap mechanic gyroscope thing which was one of the first videos or your I watched. When logic was added to scrap mechanic. I remember when multiplayer Mondays started. Thanks for sticking around scrapman.

    I think that this would have been a good build for quantum rudders over the tail fins. This would help with a space mode as well.

    Idea: how about building your best vehicle until now?? One build, 3 episodes. Part 1: engineering/functionality, Part 2: Design, Part 3: Testing!!

    Would *definitely* be painful to add, but it might be really cool if you could somehow give it a second set of larger wheels it can swap to to give it better ground clearance for wall-climbing or driving over rough terrain

    Something that I think could be interesting would be to make a PID controller with the new math/logic blocks and have it control a vehicle either speed or pitch or something.
    Maybe as a challenge Scrapman if you haven't looked it at before.

    I’d love to see this polished up and perfected. It came out awesome though and tbh I saw the original video when it came out and am a little biased to the old creation lol
