This was super cool thank you for taking the time to show us! I hope one day that a Spotify or playlist on YT is made digitally of the music from his personal collection and a flip book of copied pictures of the collection at Graceland!
Thank you for including us all into the ELVIS record collection rare magic. This is a unique experience, and cannot be seen elsewhere. Well done to both of you. LONG LIVE THE KING.
Wow what a great collection, but they owned by a great man so what did you expect. Absolutely loved hearing those actual elvis records, I will save this video and watch it time and time again. Many thanks and luv the show.
An amazing inside look into the kind of music Elvis liked to listen to. These videos are an amazing source of information in order for us his fans to get to know the man. LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think some records were demos sent by colonel parker for possible recordings. Colonel had to approve all demos before it reached elvis. Colonel only let elvis record songs that benefited them like having songwriters giving up most of their points or credits. So imagine alot of songs elvis could have recorded if it werent for colonel.
I find it incredible that there's almost no mention of the vast gospel collection he had (both black and white gospel quartets). I love the channel but Gospel was his main infuence (especially the Blackwood Brothers and The Statesmen Qt) The before named Quartets recorded on RCA. Elvis used his contacts at RCA to automatically send every new release by these groups to him. On one press conference Elvis specifically mentions his love for Gospel Quartet music. Other than that love your channel ;)
I wonder why also. They never mention his passion for gospel or the fact that he hired a quartet to be on call when he wanted live gospel music. That was their only job! No matter where he was at,if the mood struck he'd call them and fly them to his home(even in California) I forget the guys name in the interview I saw,but he said sometimes it'd be the middle of the night. He said it was the best job he ever had! He ended up working with Elvis as part of the male singers in his shows. Sorry I can't remember his name, but I've watched so many interviews on alot of UTube channels and quite a few are now passed. I think this guy is still alive, but probably in his late 60s or early 70s.
This is fantastic! I have a Christmas 45 (with Elvis' music on it) that was gifted to me by a special someone who had received it as a gift prior from Elvis himself! 😋
As an Elvis fan and music fan the insight into Elvis's record collection is sheer joy to watch and hear. Angie, you have the best job in the world. It shines through that it is a labour of love for you being the chief archivist at Graceland.
Wow, great piece. Loved the way it was put together. Showing the 45's with 50's photos of Elvis listening to them. I would love to get my mitts on Elvis' records and peruse through them. I see lots of promo and freebies in there! Wonderful stuff!
My record collection is mostly Elvis records , but the rest is as diverse as Elvis' was , from classical , to something from every big star in music history .
This was great! After going to Graceland and seeing the jukebox setup in the TV room, I've wondered what records Elvis owned. Thought it was very cool how they showed the label of the record while you heard the actual record - static, pops, crackles and all. Thank you for sharing this!
I had a few of the ones you mentioned/played. My collection was the size of probably one box. Although, I did have a lot of albums. This was so interesting!♥️ Thanks for sharing!
This was great to listen to. I was an avid collector starting from the 50s to the 90s before cds. I have over a thousand LPS, likely over 30 by Elvis. I remember Pop Tunes when I first moved here. Great video.
I love this !! I still have my records . I have that record Percy Sledge , When a Man Loves a Woman and Soul man for sure , but I need to go through mine and see if I still have any of my Elvis records . I use to have albums too . I'll have to check and see which ones I still have . I still have a Loretta Lynn and Conway albums too . I miss those days . Thanks for sharing this great video .
elvis did quite a few beatles songs but i always figuerd if he could cover one solobeatle song it would be "Maybe, I'm Amazed" i could totaly hear Elvis sing that.
Elvis history has told us he could take most artists big songs , and improve on them by putting his own stamp , arrangement and energy on them . So i would wager he could have done so with Beatles songs , especially their early hits . Damn Elvis even made " ol Macdonald had a farm " , sound like a great pop song .
Someone may have already told this but the X marks on a record were put there by the record company so that radio stations would know which side they wanted them to promote. Sometimes a DJ would flip a record over and the B side would become a smash hit. I still have all my 45s and I still enjoy them.
Elvis recorded "Danny" ('My name should be trouble...') for King Creole, but it was left out of the movie. That's probably why he had Gene Bua's version. Also - Elvis performed at least three Hank Williams songs - Your Cheatin' Heart in the late 50's, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry for Aloha From Hawaii, and I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You) on the Home Recordings collection.
He had 18 golden boots for his country music! I didn't know that until yesterday when I was rewatching Gates of Graceland videos on UTube. The curater Angie was taking you through the Hall of Gold, where all his Gold and platinum records and numerous other awards are. She was pointing out a lot of overlooked awards that people miss because they are so dazzled by the records. That's when she pointed out the golden boots and also the golden Globe award for best picture for That the way it is. Just for Elvis being Elvis! He didn't have to act he was naturally entertaining.
Angie shows a record "Danny" by Gene Bua with a few X's on it. She did not know what the X's meant . This might help. Elvis made a movie called "King Creole". It was based on a book by Harold Robins titled "A Stone for Danny Fisher". The story line was changed to fit Elvis but the name Danny Fisher was still used. He recorded the song "Danny" for the movie but it was cut out. It can be found on TH-cam. Conway Twitty recorded the song but changed the name to "Lonely Blue Boy". All three can be found on TH-cam. Check them out.
Look at the picture both his albums released at that time were on the shelf and he's not even looking at either one he didn't have any idea how talented he was he had no idea
Any Cliff Richard in there? I know for a fact Elvis had 'Living Doll' in his collection which was #1 in the UK when he was in the Army. The b side to that Apron Strings is a song Elvis planned to record when he got out of the Army and there is a private recording of Elvis singing that song.
I wonder if Elvis ever made a trip to Hamburg when he was stationed in Germany. Can you imagine him visiting the same places The Beatles did just a few years before them.
The 45's that have a X marked on one side probably came from a radio station prior to Elvis owning them, it was common at that time for a DJ or an A&R man for a label to put the X on one side to indicate which side to play on the radio. I have quite a few myself, most are pretty common. I know these are unique cause they belonged to Elvis.
Love to hear the stories of Elvis. He loved Roy Orbison . It's so sad he died so young. Too bad his manager cared more about gambling than Elvis's health.
13:07 It would really be something if Elvis owned a recording of Brahms Fifth Symphony, especially considering that Brahms only wrote four symphonies 😀
What no Robert Goulet songs? Lol 😂 I’m thinking those 45s would have been for skeet shooting. Yet I’m thinking he probably would have used a 45 caliber to really get the job done. I’m sure he had a 1911 in his collection of guns.
They don't seem to understand that most of the marks on the labels are for radio DJs. Elvis obviously picked up old records from radio stations. And as for the heavy wear on some records, that is caused by juke box play.
The record companies sent the records to Elvis just like they did the radio stations and jukebox companies. My grandfather was in the jukebox business and they would send him new releases even after he was out of the business.
(4:00) Well the Song Evil & Trouble have not much in common exept both is a blues based song, like so many! Please don`t tell such inaccurate things...thanks "Trouble" is a blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, originally performed by Elvis Presley in 1958 and covered by a number of artists in later years.
Could you please share a digitized list and digitized labels of the records that were in Elvis' personal record collection. I'm disabled and can't visit Graceland in person right now.
perhaps the ex's on Demos were done by the record company? were they in the demos only? if so, maybe it was done by the record compay to say it was for airplay or demo purposes only. (?)
She would have been about 5 when Elvis died. After starting her career at Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. at the age of 17 as a tour guide, Angie transitioned to the Graceland archives, a department she now heads. I'd like to see his lp's ❤
Takes me back many years and wonderful to think that Elvis was listening to some of the records that I also bought at the time. Long live the King.

He had amazing taste in music. Can you imagine what the value of that collection is, even without his name attached?
