The fact that this grocery store has been an anchor to the community for so long and in an environment like this really shows us why it is so important to gain and earn trust in a community; this family owned business is a true and authentic example of that.
Grandma was surprised when she found out the grandson wanted to own his grocery store. Makes sense because the great-grandfather even said he couldn’t recommend it to the younger generation. Shows how proud that lil guy is of his family and what they do
I love how all the generations work together - something lost here in the States. The little girl going with her grandmother to shop before dawn and showing interest ❤ what a family - thanks for sharing
definitely not lost in the states. You will find that most small community businesses heavily involve family members. We just have less small community businesses.
In the states that girl and that boy would have their eyes glued to a phone watching tiktok instead of doing something productive like these kids. Learning the ins and outs of a business! These kids are on the right track. I feel the love and camraderie with this family. Theyre all so hardworking!
The Millennials in the US did not want to run small businesses and wanted to goto wall street or attorneys and various other professions. Some parents very successful small businesses that were making lots of money and the kids did not want to take it over. The younger Gen X kids were the same, they all wanted to go into tech. Nothing wrong with any of that but it spelled doom for small family shops
Right? They actually care about their customers and their well being. I had a local grocer growing up and he would take nutrition courses to make sure he sold the top notch nutritious ingredients to make sure his customers stay healthy. Then one day he had to close because a stop and shop came into town and he couldn't compete with their prices. Shame on my community for abandoning his shop.
I live rural. We have a lot of Mom and Pop stores. We have a Mennonite store you just go in shop right what you bought and put the money in the can. It's not everyday but on the weekends it's common.
When I was working in Japan, I always loved going to the local family owned supermarket. The last prefecture I worked in, was such a small town had only one and a really big chain supermarket but still enjoyed the local one because they greet you by your name when you come in. Always looking forward to spending time with "obaasan" or "oojisan" You always feel very welcome and they would even suggest getting the things that are much cheaper and on sale for that day. And ofcourse there's the chitchat when your at the counter and always look out for me since I was one of the very few "gaijins" in the community..... They have even invited me on special occasions like birthdays, barbecues, and even picnics in the park! So loved that family owned grocery!
But Japaneae culture basically ensures daily business. People don't think about whether or not to buy whole grains, organic etc. People grow up eating what they're given without questioning it -- and with Japanese work culture people don't have time to question it, meaning people just blindly follow the traditions and buy everything they sell. Whatever looks cool, cute or good tasting people just buy it. It's like disregarding nutrition for mental health and happiness. But also, getting rid of spare time is what makes Japan tick and work. No time means no trouble. It's the ultimate conservative society. Trading freedom for safety, blindly following traditions.
The grand daughter seemingly having an interest - and more importantly a good time - in helping and learning the business is so heartwarming. Finished the video: What a lovely family. Having grown up with my own family owning a business, I wish I was this invested in it (I took a bit of a step back because of exhaustion and other stuff happening in life) but having a close, tight knit family is so important to me.
This episode is great. Please make more like this kind of family shop/business. It is always great to see how family members support and work together.
What a lovely family! It is not just a business but also an important community service! They all work so hard and go the extra mile to keep prices low, benefiting all the locals. I wish them all the best!!! 😊
We have lost so many of these kinds of places to Wal Mart and other mega chains. Neighborhoods have lost their sense of community because of it. I currently live a very small town in TN. We still have a small grocery and many of the workers have been here for decades. But it keeps getting harder for them to stay open.
Whenever you do these, you should add a google maps location pin.. just for reference…most of us won’t be able to go there but it would be nice to see the place. From a map perspective.
Paolo.. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thanks for your hard work making these great videos for all of us. Please tell the grandson if he wants to open a produce market then learn about all vegetables and fruits in season and off season. This will help him out greatly in understanding produce. I have over 10 years doing produce with Safeway here in the bay area. Thanks again!!
Absolutely love the family owned businesses! I try to patronize the ones in my local area as much as possible. Thanks for featuring this amazing family and their work! ❤
i always watch every single video religiously, i remember watching the first Day in the life video, your content is always so refreshing. I'll go to Japan next year and all your recommendations helped me a lot making my itinerary, thank you!
Wow! A breath of fresh air seeing 3 generations of family all working together like that. Thats really rare to see. Thank you for another amazing one Paolo This time of year is all about family so I totally understand you needing a break from content creation. Happy Holidays!!!
I discovered your channel a few months ago, my partner who is Japanese, I showed it him, he grew up in Hawaii but we live in LA now… we watch your channel a lot, our favorite is Behind the counter and The day isn’t the life.. I know it takes a lot to produce these often, but I hope you can keep going, we love them. I was just watching my 3rd one today when this one got posted… I have seen them all multiple times. We live near a neighborhood called Little Osaka and these videos make us love the area more as we go there often to eat out and grocery shop.
Hi Paolo. Great video as usual. Grandma and Great Grandma are so alike. The owner looked exhausted but was proud that his family is helping it run. I hope you have a great festive season. Bye from Vancouver 🇨🇦
I was checking your channel a few hours ago to see if you had uploaded a new video, and now I see this one! 😂 Perfect timing. 🕒 I love your videos. Greetings from the Dominican Republic! 🇩🇴
Well that was lovely! Can't believe the great grandmother is still working and for so many hours a day. Also amazing that the kids are working ❤ good to have you back Paolo.
Paolo, I can honestly say I never miss your videos and appreciate every single one of them. Thank you so much and I think it's great that you showcase the family run or smaller stores and their amazing dedication to their customers. I'm sure it's been said before but this mindset is absent from so many chain stores (outside of Japan) so it's both heartwarming and sad to see it so well represented elsewhere.
It seems like an every mom pop shop of any type whether it be a restaurant retail grocery store. The prices are so incredibly low. I often wondered how in the world they can make a living. And it looks like they just always barely hang on. The dedication , tradition and the loyalty it’s truly amazing
Paolo thanking you for another great video about the daily life in Japan and its people. Keep up the good work and wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and everyone on You tube the same from Luddenham Australia.
Paolo!!! Happy holidays to you and your family. This was a very wholesome video and the family behind this store seems so excited to be sharing their story with you and all of us. Thanks for giving us a great 2024 year and I hope 2025 is just as great and more for you, the family, and the channel!
I enjoy watching this great family work together. I can't believe how low they need to set their prices! I hope the business can be profitable for them. If I lived anywhere near them, I would buy everything from them (on full-price day).
Great to be back again! Hope everyone is able to spend some time with friends and family during this Holiday Season.

That's not true at all. Plenty of examples of this in the States...
Gotta love unpaid child labor
@@river-t4y Only your spoiled brain thinks this is child labor.
In the states that girl and that boy would have their eyes glued to a phone watching tiktok instead of doing something productive like these kids.

Bruh there are mom and pop shops all around.

@@Earth_Rim_Roamer Not nearly as many as their used to be from the 50's till the early 80's

Margins are razor thin in this kind of business. I hope for the continued success of this lovely shop. Thanks for another great video, Paolo.
I hope so too!

So wholesome ☺️ You can’t quantify this type of wealth with numbers/money
True ! So true !

Why am I emotional watching? It's so heartwarming to watch these kinds of vids 😢😢
The old guy talking about driving to Nagano got to me. Things like that can be more difficult but more rewarding as you age
This episode is great. Please make more like this kind of family shop/business. It is always great to see how family members support and work together.
I have to say, this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. The whole family working together. I actually cried ❤❤
Another great episode . 🫰🏻✌🏻
That kid, hope his dream comes true, it was a remarkable story
I thought that was her mom until you said grandmother and i had to do a double take. The japanese never age!
They are beautiful.
I mean you don't really know her age, there's grandma's in their 30s
Just got back from a trip. Makes me appreciate your videos that much more. Can’t wait to get back there!
I'm so happy that another episode is out!!!
I pray every day i get the chance to visit this amazing country. Saving up now 🙏
I just love seeing the "everyday life" of normal people. Learning about the how and why. Thank you Paolo for all you do to help us learn.
What a lovely family! It is not just a business but also an important community service! They all work so hard and go the extra mile to keep prices low, benefiting all the locals. I wish them all the best!!! 😊
I hope this video brings a lot of business to this mom and pop shop
A daily in the life and behind the counter combined. Clever

4AM! Thank you for this great work, Paolo
I appreciate you watching!
I experienced meeting that kind of family when l was in Yokohama in the 80s, we help them closing the store every night, such good people.
Respect the hustle. Good stuff p
Lol @ the grandma’s look at the grandson when she heard he wanted to run his own store, too 😂
I love this one so heart warming 🥰
