    traditional jazz musicians have no real idea how deeply you need to know tunes in order to deconstruct them like this! This group's catalogue on JMT and later on Winter&Winter is just so exceptional, some of the greatest jazz music ever played!

    Bill Frisell is my hero! I play guitar because of him. Joe and Paul are amazing as well.

    Folk Song for Rosie. That song changed how I see the world. Live at the Village Vanguard album. Stunning.

    All three are genius, but Paul Motian brought out the very best in Lovano and Frisell.

    Three great artists-it is hard for me to imagine Joe and Bill tackling these songs with any other drummer because Paul created musical magic that is beyond words every time he played. A terrific upload-thank you so much.

    Um som que mostra o quanto a música pode evoluir se o músico consegue se livrar das amarras da pseudo lógica do mercado. Em tempos como esse , em que tudo parece ruir, o que fica é isso, a essência transformadora da arte !

    Yo vi ese concierto en Barcelona. Me encantó. He de apuntar que la guitarra no és sintetizada. Es una Gibson SG con efectos clásicos de distorsión, diley, reverberación...

    What mouthpiece is Lovano playing here, is it an early FL custom wood piece, it looks plastic, but there is a metal ring on the shank so it could be wood, it sounds beautiful, it sounds awesome on his BA tenor.
    1986 is the earliest I have heard him with his new voice, he changed his gear and refined his sound from the 10* Link STM he played with Woody Herman and the Vanguard orchestra in the 70s and early 80s. This is great!

    • @miphka66
      @miphka66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats the first FL wooden mouthpiece Joe played, i want to say it was made of boxwood. He used it for a few years until it started to move, thats when he went to a black FL mouthpiece made of grenadilla wood

    I saw this group at the Village Vanguard sometime in the Fall 1996, I guess after this gig. I don't remember much of it because my fucking eyeballs went to back of my head and stayed there through most of the set. I woke up just in time to see Lovano doing the same thing after his solo. He had this look like 'whoa...what the fuck just happened? where am I? ' he went DEEP. it blew my mind. it sort of justified the $2 mini coca cola cans they sold at the time to cover the 2 drink minimum.

    i keep returning to this video-- Frisell is such an inspiration, his tone during this set is unreal. does anyone know what pedals he could be using?

    • @stefanobonoli8783
      @stefanobonoli8783 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At that time he said he was using pretty heavy compression (Boss CS3), ProCoRat distorsion, delay (Boss DD3), reverb and volume pedal. He was also using a 16 Second EHX delay for his reverse or double speed loops.

    Finally got enough of that damn bass player. Ditched his ass at the last gas stop.
    But seriously, how much fun is this if you imagine that you're watching music played by Special Olympians. Come on, don't you think they look just a little, you know, like that. LOL!
    Love it guys. Keep it up, you ARE special.

  • @TheSecondNature
    @TheSecondNature 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it sort of sounds like he uses a tremolo, but it looks like the guitar is a regular stopbar-tuneomatic bridge equipped guitar. i understand he bends the neck a lot, but sometimes it does really sounds and looks like he's using a tremolo. craazy

    • @Lanearndt
      @Lanearndt 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's so nuts how long he has had such deep control over his note! I think there's an element of classical push-pull going on, as well as a surgeon's precision with in-fret bending, i.e. pushing too hard, in general he's kind of always ding little circular motions with his hands. it's so fluid!

    • @TheSecondNature
      @TheSecondNature 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lane arndt yeah you're right about in-string bendings, but wow, it's either you use light strings or you have a non-human strength in your fingers
