    All these negative comments. If y’all don’t like the job the FDNY is doing don’t call them. Put it out yourself.

    Whatever the flames didn't damage, that smoke surely ruined everything else in the house.

    I don’t understand the comments about “taking too long to put water on the fire.” The video shows a strong interior attack with 4 hoses (one is 2.5”). That interior attack was effective because they correctly identified where the seat of the fire was. The fire is knocked down before it burns through the roof or extends to nearby structures.

      They were nearly at a "flash over" and had to get upper ventilation with the ground ladder or members would have been injured.

      It doesn't take 4 lines in this size structure

    I think the NYC Water is somewhat thicker than other areas of the world. That may may explain the longer time it takes to ooze through the hydrant, into the pump and back out to a hose.

    You can’t just run into a fire or just spray water until you understand and pinpoint the source of the fire also locating the fire making sure there are no civilians inside. Also ventilation is very i portent to fighting a fire.

    Thank you for the input but my Question now is if they carry only 500 to 1000 gallons what do they do where there is no water source? They have 2 Mins and that's it?

      New York city has plenty of fire hydrants especially where the population density is extreme fire hydrants are everywhere they if I'm not mistaken some sections in Manhattan could have up to 3 hydrants just on one corner but some places in queens and statan island might have hydrants that are further apart compared to other locations thru out the city but would always have a hydrant to use to insure positive water supply at all times.

      The answer is if there are no hydrants close to a fire then they resort to tanker trucks. Large Cities usually have enough hydrants though.

      Pretty standard for them. Loads of people on the front lawn but hardly anybody sorting out a water supply. 🤷‍♂️

      Engines carry a water supply but it's very limited - 500 to 1000 gallons. At the rate they pump water that can be gone in 2 minutes. Getting connected to a hydrant is critical as you you don't want your firefighters inside the building running the tank dry and then being at the seat of the fire with an empty hose in their hands. That puts them in dangers. Firefighters have different assigned roles when they arrive at a scene. Some are charged with entering and putting water on the fire. Some are charged with overhauling the fire building after the fire is under control and knocked down. That team has to sit and wait. Other firefighters are assigned as a RIT (rapid intervention team) and they are held in reserve to go in and rescue firefighters who might become trapped or have an incident that incapacitates them and puts them in danger. So they will be standing around. On multiple alarm fires you will see firefighters standing around waiting to relieve their colleagues currently fighting the fire. Depending on the length of the fire they rotate firefighters periodically to swap out their air tanks which are running low or simply for a break.

      @@timpula9984 That's why we use high pressure hosereels as our first line of attack so we don't waste time to get started on dealing with the fire.

      They are unprepared and there seems to be no sense of urgency. In Europe where I lived they practically run out of the truck with hose in hand 🖐🏻

  • @ricklancaster6697
    @ricklancaster6697 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    There is no sense of Urgency at all and as for water supply i thought the trucks carried water. I would hate to see EMS show up to a scene and casually walk to a Car that's had a serious Crash

    • @jimbrewer2893
      @jimbrewer2893 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, trucks do carry water. But you have to know where to put it first. Look closer. The line going in the front door is charged. That's a primary attack line. The fireman holding the dry line is most likely waiting for assignment. It's easier to drag a dry line than a wet line. You'll see them pulling that line to the B side. This is real life. Not some Hollywood TV set.

    I do understand the comment about why it takes so long for crews to prepare and start spraying water …. It’s unacceptable- I lived in Europe and there they are ready to go and spraying water in less than 90 seconds 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @FloridaCatholicGuy

      Europe isn’t any better….there was just a recent hotel fire where they only had one ladder pipe in operation which was doing absolutely nothing to put the fire out.
