  • OK I recorded this on my phone for a quick reference, sorry for the poor quality.
    In this video I record from the inputs to Master L/R & Multi track simultaneously. This unit is AWESOME!! It has lots of features, functions, and capabilities.
    I made this video to show how easy it is to use the recording features. Unfortunately I am not tech savvy and it took a little doing to figure out these simple steps. Hopefully someone looking for this information can find this video useful.
    I'm using a Sure SM-58, Sure Super 55, a Kramer Focus 3000, and a BOSS GT-100 in this video. There is also a Sennheiser MK 416 and MXL condenser Mic in the overhead, both require Phantom power from the UI24R. All of the mics were on and recording. There was no special channel settings to mention here.

    I bought one of these mixers and have read the entire manual and watched a bunch of TH-cam videos. You explained this better than any of them. A lot of manufacturers give instructions that overlook the fact it’s just average folks hunting and pecking through all the features trying to get the devices to work. Your video was practical and helpful. Thanks.

      I have to agree. The manual tells you to open menus but does not tell you where they are. This video is a great resource.

      You are welcome , but thank you for watching 😎👍
      In regards to the wireless unit, it's the Line 6 G10 system. I really like it for the simple design but it does have its quirks...
      There are a few guitars that it doesn't work well with or not at all. It comes with an adapter and my Schecter bass will not work at all unless I use the adapter. I also have a Parker guitar and the system works for the DiMarzio pick ups but not the Piezo pick up.... stuff like that....

      Thank You !!
      I don't think you did anything wrong, the 2 track recording has a lower out put level than the multi track. You can adjust this by uploading the two track file into a DAW and tweaking it from there. You can get a fairly decent recording by doing that however ir is much better to have the individual tracks for a better mixing experience in a DAW

    Great video. Recently got my UI24R and currently have a QSC Touchmix 30 Pro. I love the QSC, but am slowly finding ways to love the UI24R too. My Touchmix is so user friendly, I want the Soundcraft to be as well. Wanted to ask you about dumping my multi-track recording down to a 2 track. I can do this in my Touchmix by arming my 2_track and playing my recording back while mixing real-time. Can I do the same with the UI24R? Can I play back the multitrack recording (I guess in soundcheck mode) and mix it while recording to the 2-Track? I just did a recording last night, and will try, but thought I'd ask you as well.

      Hello 👋
      Thanks 😊
      To answer your question, I am not sure...
      I have used the system to record a layered track, recording one part and then a second during playback etc... however it's been a while and Idon’t recall the process. I'm not sure if it will record in the manner you are looking for.
      You may have to utilize a DAW to achieve your goal .
      The system can play back multitrack recordings and still have active input sources, but recording and playback from the same USB is something that I am unsure about.....
      Need to try it !!!......lol

      Ok soooo
      Curiosity got the better of me and I had a minute. I turned on my system, set up a multitrack recording for my drum kit, recorded a segment of drums, activated sound check, and did a 2 track recording of the multitrack recording.
      It was quite easy, although the status bar was not moving during the 2 track recording, it did record the multitrack mix to a 2 track .

    • @kenvetter9258
      @kenvetter9258 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@keithtannoya5356 Thank you for your curiosity. 😋. I was able to record to 2-track as well from sound check (multi-track) recording. I was able to sub-mix while the multi-track was playing to get a better result. The one thing I missed that my QSC offers, is that I can set the record level prior to recording my 2-track.
      But overall, I am satisfied. Thank you for experimenting with me. 👍🏼😋

    I have the same mixer and I’m working on trying to do recording (both studio and live). For live recording do you have to engage both the two track and multi track at the same time or could you do one or the other? Thanks.

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello !
      Great question, I didn't think about until you asked...
      The basic answer is that you don't NEED to do both at the same time but you can if desired.
      The advanced answer is that you can use the 2 track as a reference to tweak your mix and make it better..
      Basically, the 2 track recording is taken from the master channels (if I understand it correctly), and the multi track is taken right after the gain faders before the actual channel strip.
      The multi track allows you to adjust each channel during playback. So you can fix EQ, compression, and add effects, etc...
      The 2 track already has the adjusted channel information and individual channels cannot be adjusted. So if your mix is already awesome, then you have a demo. But if it needs help, you can reference it and make adjustments using the multi track.
      There's more reasons for doing both at the same time but it's up to you to decide how you're going to use these features.
      I absolutely LOVE this system and I am still learning how to do more with it !!
      Thanks for watching, and for asking me about this. It gets the wheels in my head turning ...!!
      Lol

    Brother could I ask for some help. My headphones jacks seem to only be routed to aux 9 and aux 10. How do I get those to only monitor the main mix ? Any help appreciated

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A few things to check, make sure the "solo" tab is not engaged for those channels, In the settings page / global tab solo routing tab on headphones. Not sure if that's the fix but just check. On the routing tab you can reset to default and see if there is a routing issue, check activate soundcheck to see if it is enabled, lastly using the shows tab,load a default show to see if the problem goes away. You may need to re boot your system if you haven't already.
      I know these are basic troubleshooting options however without getting knee deep in your system, I can only think of these options. Also READ your manual If you haven't already. There is often a solution there.
      If you get stuck, call Soundcraft for tech support. They have helped me many, many times and admittedly on simple things helping me to learn more about my unit.
      I hope this helps

    Great video, will this Multitrack straight into Cubase?

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, my laptop instantly recognized the unit as an interface and received the signals from each channel just after the pre Amp on the Soundcraft UI 24R.
      The channels are offset , the first ten channel inputs to Cubase are aux signals from the UI24r, so your input signal for channel 1 on the UI24r is input 11 in Cubase. 😎👍

    Hey Keith, it’s me again. Just tried using my UI24R this past weekend and had two issues that hopefully you might have an answer for:
    1. The sound out front was very weak when I was using the unit. I ended up having to stop the show and switch to my old mixer (a Yamaha MG12XU) to continue the show and the sound got much punchier afterwards. The rig at the time was as follows: Soundcraft UI24->Yamaha P5000 power amp->2 Yamaha S115V Mains. My assumption is it’s an issue with gain. Any advice on where you set the gain on the unit for certain instruments (vocals, guitar, bass, kick, snare, cymbals, etc.) to make the mix more punchy out front?
    2. I tried recording the performance while I was using the sound craft and was able to get the 2 Track to work. However, when it came to multitracking, any time I engaged the channels I wanted to record to the USB stick, the gain level would change from whatever the gain was to USB and then a number (for example, vocal track went from +24db to USB-1). This would also kill any signal going to the mains and monitors for the live sound. The only way to get sound again was to reset the routing back to the regular mix, but then I would lose multitracking ability. As a further note, the stick is a 256 GB USB 3.0 soundcheck was off during the entire process.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      Ok sooo my first thought was that I am using powered speakers and not a power Amp. This is a huge difference from the set up you are using. I can only recommend to try checking your output settings from the UI24 into the power Amp to make sure you have a proper signal coming g out of your SoundCraft unit.
      I keep my speakers at noon on the volume and the same for the UI24 output levels. We have a full band playing through the unit weekly and I can never bring the master fader up to unity because it's too loud.
      During set up , I always run music through the system to check sound levels and connections etc... once I had the master faders down from the previous night and forgot to bring them up afterwards. That's the only time I experienced any output issues and it was my fault... lol
      I use the line rca inputs to play the music.
      Regarding the multi track, you do not adjust the routing at all to use this function. You only need to go to the multi track configuration page and select the channels to record. This will NOT effect your mix at all if done correctly.
      You can get to the multi track configuration page by selecting the arrow, I demonstrate this in the video. There is a tab labeled multi track configuration.
      In order to play back your recordings. You must use activate sound check . It will turn green . Then you will be able to hear the multi track recording play through the PA.
      I had some trouble getting it to work at first but I called tech support and they were awesome!!!
      I recommend calling SoundCraft tech support if you can' get it to work.
      I'm still learning about the UI24, I'm no expert however I hope this helps in some way...

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding the gain settings...
      It will vary from instrument to instrument and mic to mic.
      The way I set up each channel is to adjust the gain fader on the gain page for each input.
      Bring it up until the signAL begins to turn red then back it down so the signal is below red when peaked (maximum or loudest signal in). A RED signal means clipping & distortion. Bass guitars will easily go into the red zone and distort horribly, so it's important to keep the signal strength below the red .
      Once these levels are set you can adjust each channel volume fader to get your mix just right.
      Note : Do NOT use the gain faders to mix with. They are for unauthorized signal levels only.
      I am planning on making a video on gain staging soon...
      Hopefully it will help answer some questions.

    How can i do live recording but all channels have their own recording, like multitracks. I have ui16. Cuz we did a live recording but only one audio has been seen in the recordings files. Pls thank you for replying

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello 👋 , I believe the UI 16 is does not have a multitrack recording option. That unit can only record the master L&R. The UI 24r has the multitrack capabilities and can be utilized as an interface direct to a DAW. I am not sure if you have the option of trying to use the UI16 as an interface. There is no information regarding the unit as an interface. You cab check the user manual to see if this is a possibility, however I don't think the UI16 will provide more than the master L&R signals.

    • @keithtannoya5356

      Unfortunately it does not. As I understand it, the UI16 and UI12 can only do the 2 track recording.
      I've had my unit for a while so things may have changed however, the multi track feature was only available on the UI24 when I purchased mine.

    • @keithtannoya5356

      This system as I understand it is designed to send the raw signal directly from the preamp to your daw.
      It may be possible to change the patching to post processing , however I haven't tried this. When I looked at it just now I didn't see an easy option.
      I don't use the processing in the system for recording, I always process my recordings inside the DAW.
      You can capture the processed signal on the 2 track recording using the USB. Also there may be an option with the individual channel by using the tab that says PRE. I know that it's possible to send a processed signal to an aux by changing it to post . Again, I have not tried it so unfortunately I don't have an absolute answer for you, but I'm going to look into this because now I am curious... lol

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you upload your tracks into a DAW (pro tools, Cubase, etc...) then you can use the mastering functions to make the track louder, clearer, and so on. That's what they do in the studios. That's what I do as well.
      You can also utilize the tools in the Soundcraft system to boost your output however I must mention that the multi track is significantly lower in volume than the individual track recordings.
      I'm not sure if there is a way to adjust that in the system. I have not found a way.
      The tech support guys may have a better answer...

    • @mrtau6279
      @mrtau6279 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keithtannoya5356 thanks Keith, we also have another issue. When we make vol/gain adjustments to the best loudest (without clipping) on every channel. The mp3 playback from usb flashdrive is still way more louder than our overall band we have to lower the payback volume. Is this normal? or do we need to find other ways to increase the band volume to match the mp3 playback so like I said all channels are in their loudest reasonable volume and gains, even compressions are added etc.

    • @keithtannoya5356
      @keithtannoya5356  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My apologies, I didn't see this until today... I have seen many bands use MP3 files in different ways and more often than not the files are super loud. in many cases the sound is clipping and sounds terrible because it is too loud and needs to be dialed down. On my system the sound levels match the live levels. perhaps there is something boosting the sound on the playback channel that is linked to the live channels that are boosted causing the output to be louder.
      Again I apologize for not responding when you sent this. I hope you've already resolved the issue.
