It’s a security feature so people can’t just access your phone while it’s locked. Go into settings->face id and passcode and toggle USB accessories on. It will now charge while the phone is locked.

Seems like a lot of people fixed the issue with a setting. Under Face ID & Password, by default It has USB accessories ticked off not allowing it while its locked. Just like awhile back when Apple had Wifi Assist on by default and it drove up everyone's data. Try this and see if it works!

shahir Pretty good, it holds up a whole lot better than my 7 plus did right before I switched. I don't know exactly how long it lasts, I think the best way to explain is one day I used it all pretty much day without charging and it only got down to about 8% by like 1 AM.
The charging functionality will come as an in-app purchase feature in iOS 12.1, stay tuned.

that’s gross, i used a samsung s8 and it continued crashing and it got hacked and was doing stuff on it’s own, i brought it to phone repair and they couldn’t fix it, i had that phone for just 6 months. 4 days ago i bough myself the iPhone Xr and i’m more than happy with it, not only is it more beautiful but it’s secure, fast, no glitching, no lagging, everything is better. i’ll never go back to android

My friend had a similar issue with his Xs Max. What he observed was that it WILL charge even if it is idle when the battery is critically low. Otherwise, it won't start charging until you wake the phone up. I observed something similar happening with the phones featured in this video.

Go to settings> Face ID and passcode; and then scroll down until you see something that says “USB accessories” and make sure that’s on, if it’s on it will charge when if doesn’t recognize your face, or when it’s locked after one hour. Don’t blame Apple, it’s a security feature so people can’t restore your device without immediate access. Hope this solved your problems.

People should understand iPhone XS Max is a big device! Apple INVENTED Individual App usage restrictions to save your life. When you use your phone for an Extended period of time and TRY TO CHARGE IT it will refuse to charge! It is an Expected behaviour of new iOS 12. You should do your research before bashing APPLE! I love my XS Max 512GB :).. I am unsubscribing Unbox Therapy!

Yup I thought I was crazy. Woke up the other day my phone was almost dead. In the car with an Apple cord, had to flip it to charge (brand new from Apple store) I’ve been paying attention as of recently because of this. I updated my 10s max to 13 whatever in the hope it would fix it, which it has not. But it is strange one cord I have to flip and another works regardless of direction? Probably the strangest issues I’ve ever had with iPhone other than batteries being crap and getting replaced. Been in the iPhone since 3GS. Apple has always been great about replacement of anything I’ve ever had an issue with. Guess we’ll see! Thanks for the video, very well made
To get mad at you for bringing issues like this is a dangerous level of fandom. It is a popular device that lots of people will be driven to for all sorts of reasons and they really need to know that this VERY expensive device isn't perfect. Keep up the good work!

About 5-10x/week, it has a “battery charging spasm”! Meaning it flashes and beeps that charging sound on/of...on/of...on/off... in rapid succession like really fast! Then I try a different Lightening Cord, or a different power plug, etc. until it calms down, enough to charge! 🙄

thans for the vid, my guy. I am one of those individuals who has came across these same issues. Only thing is stuck in recovery mode and showing a code 4013. I only had phone for 2 months nd apple refuses to replace it.

So obviously a year later this issue has be resolved. Didn’t know it was an issue, but you had me a little worried there as I am really digging this phone. But usually when I plug in my phone I am usually looking at it. I just hate that they include the weaker block for charging. Actually I am a little disappointed in what they included with it. I feel if your paying a minimum of $1100 that AirPods should be included over EarPods. But just my thoughts and others will probably disagree
