You’re not allowed to have an audience plant who is instructed a head of time as what to pick when performing mentalists tricks on this show. So Allison had to either truly make a free choice of song or at least think she freely chose (I.e. the Force they mentioned).
@@Charlesb88yes you are right stooges planted in audience are not allowed but I think instant stooging is. Moving from magic (which I started in card magic and close up magic when I was 4 I'm 37 now) to Mentalism has had such an impact on me as a hobbyest. Going back to what you said about the "extreme" believers of mentalism. When I do close up magic ✨ I always get bewilderment and this sense of wonder from the spectator and it feels great (dont get me wrong) but when I perform a Mentalism effect even something as basic as using magicians choice and e none existing deck or something out of Corindas book or something way more elaborate like a name scratched in my arm I almost always get a much larger reaction because the mentalism effects thier mind (psychologically) . One time I was performing magic at a church (of all places) I was asked to show some effects to 8th graders and thier parents and doing the close up was fun but nothing beats when a lady legitimately called me the devil and ran out of the building. That is what I want from my performance. So I agree with your assessment. With that said great performance! Loved it.
Channeling my inner Penn, I watched and enjoyed almost every second of this, much like Alyson I imagine, like it was some sort of reality show, but one with two sides to it: one a little more sinister. But once the choices pan out on the right side, you need a lot less room to prepare a stunning reveal! Well done and well earned!
Incredible performance! Although your electric personality, I think I actually have an inkling as to how you’ve done it. Really cool thinking behind this! Would be awesome if you will post the rest of the songs sung by Penn! :)

If you put as much work as I think you did, that’s impressive. Not sure how you’d get a chance to do that, but good thing you chose Alison and not Penn & Teller! 🙂👍🏻 Nice work man!
You really think it was done like that? I don't think so theee no way. I mean ofcourse there is but Allison would have to be so accessible or you'd have to pay a lot of people. It's got to be more simple then that. I think she could've picked any song and it would've worked
@@quasar960 I think he definitely forced Old McDonald. The positioning of the song on the list, letter spacing, name length, and the song itself can all influence a decision. That's why P&T wanted to look at the paper I think. And Allyson is the perfect assistant for this trick since she usually picks very predictably when given a visible choice.
@@johnnickfanaccount3492 It needs to be something more than simple influence. Otherwise, any number of things could happen on a random whim on Alysson's part. She might have some kind of aversion to that song. Or maybe she happened to have heard a song on that list earlier in the day and chosen that instead. She might even have some strange reason to believe that Penn doesn't know that song. For a magician with such huge stakes and being in front of P&T, it would be a really bad gamble to rely on mere influence. That said, I still can't think of how he could have done the trick! I'm questioning if it really is a force. It's not the first time we've seen a prediction trick where the prediction seems to be inaccessible to the magician during the performance. Or, it really was a 1 in 15 chance, haha
It must be something stupid, like a big card with "PICK OLD MCDONALD AND DONT DENY HAVING FREE CHOICE" on it, which he then just hid away when Alyson went away. She does look kinda disappointed the moment she's reading the list.
'Jadugar' means magician in India. It's what we call a magician in some of our languages. Calling a person a magician today has a different meaning from 300 years where it was probably literal. Same thing with the word 'Jadugar'. It does not usually mean sorcerer unless you talk to a crazy believer, and certainly not at a corporate gig.
Thanks for clarifying that! This was just based off of what some locals told me during the trip but I see that there's some variation in the meaning. To me magician and sorcerer are one in the same.
@@kongmentalist By the way your trick was insane. Spent an hour trying to figure it out and miserably failed. The video of Penn singing was also well done :)
It wasn't a force. He (or someone back stage) presses a button which sends a signal to the gigantic plaque which then rotates the plates to the correct song. The plaque needs to be so big to hide the mechanism that moves the plates. He also recorded every reasonable choice so no matter what she chose he'd have a clip ready to play.
Here is my guess Keith. Alison had a free choice and like some others have said you had all 10 songs on the list made into videos. Inside the wrapping was simply the frame of the record plaque and nothing else and you had 10 record plaques prepared hidden under the table the list was on. As you open the wrapping paper you use slight of hand to palm the "Old McDonald" plaque into the frame, which this is hidden from us as the wrapping paper is covering it on the back side until you have already had time to palm the correct plaque into the frame.
Only problem with that theory is that he can't really give the finished frame to P&T afterwards, because they'd pretty instantly recognize the plaque having been swapped in at the latest moment.
Hi @Keith Kong , the first time i saw this trick, i was pretty sure the paper was switched and Alison went along with it. But now that I know (considering you said it) that you made only one video, I can say that you were sooo lucky to have Alison select the correct song. the "WAW" sounds like "JACKPOT" ! If she didn't, the outcome would be to ask Penn to sing cause he already accepted ( I mean he's a magician so he knows that he can't say No). Let me congratulate you about the gift you crafted there for Penn. I can tell - as a tech guy - It was carefully made and the glass infront made it so perfect. I saw your face expression of "YES I MADE IT" when P&T asked for the list and forgot about the gift. Thus I knew there were something fishy about it ^^
Thank you, but there is no tech in Penn's gift. I know that has been a common guess but he actually examined the record much more closely and longer than what was televised.
@@kongmentalist I know the debate after act is like 5 to 10 minutes and edited for time. I was so hooked on the tech and multi out. So you instant stooged Alison to trick her and force the pick. Great job. I'm not sure how cause guessing she can't plan it ahead of time. If this really was a force then you fooled a lot more than penn and teller. Great job and can't wait to see you on again
I know Allison had a free choice. There was no way to force her to circle a specific song from the list. I Bet he had recordings of Penn singing every song on the list. The only way it could have been done is by switching out the engraved plaque. Whether the plaques were hidden in the wrapping, or hidden on his person and palmed when the song was playing, he glued on with some sleight of hand during the unwrapping. Anything else is impossible.
I agree. If it was a force, and the plaque was already on the gift, then a better finish to the trick would have been to hand the wrapped gift to Penn and have him open it. But the magician had to open it himself in order to conceal whatever way he managed to apply the correct plaque. (Still a very clever trick!)
@@ROGER2095 This. The fact that he unwraps it himself (every little move has a purpose in magic) makes it highly likely the gift is gimicked in some way - but in such a clever way that he could hand it to Penn and still get away with it, and that's amazing. This was my best guess too. Someone else fooled them on a trick involving dozens of videos on a multiple out. Though they guessed there was a multiple out and bunch of videos they got hung up on an earlier part of trick.
And label on record is probably remote controlled from back stage vs a button on it. The montage was just a for laughs, I don't think for a second that that was supposed to fool anyone (although it might have been a surprise to many); took mad effort to create, though! Now the etched record text is the key... @@JoonasD6 heres the secret. its a post i made couple weeks ago. hopefully you can figure it out..... Like you said, Penn was really supposed to earn that gift wasn't he? Just in the interest of having fun guessing ... I'm guessing the choice was free. Given you open the package from behind and then pull the frame out from the top I'm assuming you had some mechanism in the frame that allowed you to set the placard and image at the bottom that you manipulated during the unwrapping either during the pulling apart/tearing down the wrapping paper in the back, and/or as a function of how you pulled it out through the top (one to switch the image the other to switch the text). Also given you pulled the paper down and backward away from the frame while holding the bottom of the paper it is possible that if there were any left over elements they could have fallen into your hand at the bottom of the packaging and get discarded with the wrapping paper.. Of course that all could have been misdirection. On the other hand, if you had Penn and Teller rip open the packaging and it was Penn's choice that would have been far more convincing that it had always been set up the way it was. But ... I'm betting you didn't have that option. Well done however you did it, its gotta miff Penn to be fooled by a mentalist ;)

@@shawngallo650 only the little metal plate at the bottom of the plaque had okd mcdonald written on it. So that little piece is all that would have to be switched out. IF it was done this way
Bit of a weird guess but: Why is the table so not just a normal table? Before Alyson chooses a song the list is on the left, when she has to circle it's on the right, then afterwards its on the left again. Maybe the paper is thin, and some kind of light indicates where Alyson should circle (it is an instant stooge but that is allowed right?). The table is also uncomfortably high, maybe so that we can't really see the surface from above (there are also no camera shots from above when Alyson circles it). That or there is a list swap in the motion from right to left, also with the table having some kind of slit or transition thing. Lemme know what you think I might be stupid.
Will add my 2 cents to what others have said- choice of songs is narrowed to less than 15( a few are bizarre!). Those are recorded same way as old macdonald. when choice is made, a continuous roller behind the big record with each picture/ song title is rotated till correct pair are behind the 2 little windows at bottom of frame. Almost certainly electric, probably electronic, operated by either offstage assistant or keith with a remote control. Alternately, could be push buttons spaced under back of frame, with an additional off button to keep P & T from discovering it. Keith said he didn't record all the songs, but didn't deny recording more than one. Anyway, great trick- lots of fun.
@@TheOnlyPommyman they would have had to dismantle the entire frame and everything to find the gimmick. Keith certainly wasn't going to be dumb enough to reveal any of it externally - especially when he planned on giving it to Penn as a gift
I think the order of the songs in the list is important. I reckon that there were only a few songs on that list that were known enough 'to make sure Penn knew it", and most of them were at the very top, and nobody picks from the top. Most people would pick a well known song about 3/5th down, because that feels the most 'random' area. So it was a force. Does anyone think I'm right?
Lovely trick and no idea how it was done BUT two things seem clear to me: At 2:04 Alyson is clearly choosing a title in the TOP THIRD of the paper. At 2:38 the close-up shows Alyson’s choice is now in the bottom half of the picture. But I have no idea what this means, and I am pleased to see the trophy come down!
Thanks, and that's true. Penn absolutely could have unwrapped it himself but because he didn't know what was going to happen I decided to open it myself and hold/angle it against the glare to ensure that the cameras got a good closeup shot on it for the second reveal.
Could be wrong but I don't think there was a force used I think there was multiple out and a lot of time watching episodes of Fool Us very well prepared performance.
@@hannahpowell6230 Piece of paper with one song on it, then move it over the light on the other side of table give it the 30 seconds to activate the other songs written on it! so they now show!
I think Keith prepared a video for each song. He called the selected song loudly and spent time to allow his assistance to play the right song. This part was not magic. The trick I believe is when he grabbed the frame he picked it at specific location on the right side that mechanically put the corresponding song plate and pictures.
The producers have said that they don't use edits to hide the trick from the t.v. audience, but I'm pretty sure they did here. A cut before Alison looks at the paper and a cut after.
Hi, I appreciate the comment but I can echo the producers remarks and confirm that they don't edit to hide things for at home viewers. This case was no exception. ✌
It appears (fairly clearly) that Alyson circled her choice on the top half of the sheet, above its vertical center. When Keith displayed the circled song, it was below center. I'll leave it to the rest of you to figure out its significance, if any.
I already commented something similar to this and Keith said that it is wrong. The song wasn't force on Alyson and she could pick whatever song she wanted.
It definitely looks like she circled something near the top, and my guess is "Twinkle twinkle little star" - that would explain the significance of Keith asking Alyson "you could have picked twinkle twinkle little star". However if you look very closely it doesn't appear as if Alyson's pen actually circled anything. I think the paper is heat sensitive (thermal) - when he moved the paper to his right side of the plinth, a circular heat element on the surface or just under made the circle line appear in the exact spot that he wanted it to.
Beautiful :) Much love from Germany ! I think that when you said "A song Penn would know every word of" gave a big hint on how it was done. I think some visual distortion might have something to do with it too... Am I in going into the right direction here ?
The plaque isn't thick enough to have a built-in mechanism. Furthermore, Keith wouldn't have given the plaque to Penn to keep and examine if it did have a secret. So Penn and Teller are right in that it has to be a force. That leaves two possible locations for the trick, the only other props in the act: the paper and the stand. The paper is a possibility. After all, Keith got nervous when Penn asked to see it. But the fact that he gave Penn the paper and still fooled them means either A) the paper didn't have the trick after all, or B) the trick was successfully hidden in time. If the paper had nothing to it, I don't think Keith would have reacted the way he did, so I think Case B is the answer. But that doesn't exclude the stand. The stand is very suspicious. It is very tall. It's taller than your typical podium. Why did Keith want the paper so high up? I think the stand has some important role in this. The Old MacDonald video was very loud and could have served as a distraction for everyone. Maybe the stand has something in it, like a UV light generator to remove or show a special ink when Alison was looking at it. We didn't see the list from above the podium; we only saw the list when Keith held it up in front of the camera. Or maybe the list had a special ink (with a message to Alison?) that could only be seen up close, and/or with the help of UV light emitted from the stand. That's how he got her to choose Old MacDonald, despite the fact that the paper genuinely had 14 other songs. I don't think this is a simple trick to figure out. I think the mechanism here is really advanced or just plain new.
Keith already said there wasn't a force song and that Alyson had a real marker. So that removes all your theories. Also, Keith acted nervous for giggles; guess he fooled you.
I noticed that the selected song was at the bottom half of the list, but Alyson drew a circle around the top half. Unless she did draw the circle with an upside down view, I think P&T are right that it was a force, but again I can't tell how you did that. Amazing performance!
I suspect that the list Alison has to choose from actually has 14 very unfamiliar song titles, plus Old Macdonald. So that’s the force as she’s specifically asked to choose a song that “Penn will know all the words to”. Then all that’s required is to somehow make the song list such that it transforms to/from the same list as was initially displayed for P&T to finally inspect. The printing of the list seems strange in that a fixed width font is used and not black ink (as per the solid black of the border). Also notice there are a couple of different font choices as well. The sans-serif “i” in “Little Lamb” is different from that in “Little Star”. Heat sensitive paper that changes some of the words/letters of the other 14 titles? Whatever causes the list to change would seem to be initiated by placing the list on the right side of the table. Keith subsequently moves the list to the left side to cause it to revert its original state.
Hmm, heat sensitive paper is interesting, and certainly possible as the paper seems to be somewhat curved despite being brand new but I am leaning more to the psychological explanation. 1. People are more likely to choose middle options. (Look at how the most popular ones except old McDonald are either at the top or bottom.) 2. Old McDonald is the most popular popular and catchy of these, to the point even people outside of America know it in some shape or form. 3. Look at the instruments, they are there to create a sort of mental tune to which the viewer will conform, which will also favor OldMcDonald. 4. The way Alison is presented is also a factor, he tells her to pick something that Pen will most certainly know, so she has to go with the safest choice.
Clearly you used a quantum mechanics on the plaque. The wave function collapsed to the correct wording when the choice was made. And in some parallel universe, I'm right.
Masuda would be proud!!! Amazing performance and effect, one of the best Simple and clean all the way through! Seems like real magic as if you could have “froze time” to achieve this miracle 😉
I think I know how you did it. There is a type of ink that disappears under ultraviolet light. UV light is invisible to humans. I noticed how there's maybe 5 or 6 unusual songs on the list. I think the easy songs except for Old MacDonald are printed in disappearing ink, and when the list was on that stand it was under a UV light, so the easy songs disappeared, leaving the unusual songs and Old MacDonald. Then you specifically say "a song Penn would know all the words to" and Allison naturally only has 1 choice, and she chooses very quickly. This would also explain why there's no camera shot of the list on the stand, as the producers know this would give the trick away. Still a great trick, no way anyone could figure that out without researching it after the fact xD.
I actually wish that they had included an overhead shot because you could have seen the list as it rested on the table. Alyson also confirms that she could have chosen other songs if she wanted to. Great thinking though!
The look of relief on Alyson's face when she realised she didn't have to sing was brilliant!

That's when you somehow trick audience member or Alison into doing something as a way of forcing them. Loved it.
Lol the devil
Channeling my inner Penn, I watched and enjoyed almost every second of this, much like Alyson I imagine, like it was some sort of reality show, but one with two sides to it: one a little more sinister. But once the choices pan out on the right side, you need a lot less room to prepare a stunning reveal!
Well done and well earned!
What a brilliant and original idea! I'm tired of 'pick a card'... That was genius and super entertaining! 👏👏

You Fooled me, you Fooled Penn & Teller, who's next on the list? Great performance as ever. Congrats
Thanks Trevor! Stay tuned...I'm sure there's more to come 😏
'Jadugar' means magician in India.
I wonder if the record actually had the recording on it...
Keith Kong.. so close to having the most insane name of all time. We're all thinking it!
Hahaha this has been a topic of discussion for my entire life 😂
Here is my guess Keith.
Thus I knew there were something fishy about it ^^
It was t lucky he had to perform this trick multiple times not just once
Thank you, but there is no tech in Penn's gift. I know that has been a common guess but he actually examined the record much more closely and longer than what was televised.
@@HeyItsZMK that's correct. There was only one performance for P&T but about 3 practice runs in rehearsal with production.

Penn: There has to be a force.
*Jedi walks in*
I know Allison had a free choice.
Penn said it was a force and he actually saw the plaque. He is also very knowledgeable about magic.
Clearly not anything else is impossible since your possible solution is insane.
@@aviralsood8141 And that's why he got fooled.
P&T have seen thousands of gimicked objects in their lives.
That seems unforced yet has to be forced. I just don’t get it. I can’t come up with even speculations. Amazing job.

My theory: 1 - he had montage of Penn "singing" every song from the list. 2 - the platinum record is fixed. With the push of the hidden button you can change the title of the song.
This was my best guess too. Someone else fooled them on a trick involving dozens of videos on a multiple out. Though they guessed there was a multiple out and bunch of videos they got hung up on an earlier part of trick.
And label on record is probably remote controlled from back stage vs a button on it. But man dude ain't kidding he or assistants spent hours watching every episode to get all the words for all the songs and clips for them. And the work that went into making record. This is 1 the times knowing the secret makes it ridiculously amazing how much time and effort went in to it. This guy wanted the trophy bad.
The montage was just a for laughs, I don't think for a second that that was supposed to fool anyone (although it might have been a surprise to many); took mad effort to create, though! Now the etched record text is the key... I'm curious, because there was an episode with the magician Arkadia whose trick alvo involved an inscription on a piece of metal containing text that easn't known previously, and somehow that did not fool P&T.
@@JoonasD6 heres the secret. its a post i made couple weeks ago. hopefully you can figure it out.....
Like you said, Penn was really supposed to earn that gift wasn't he? And alyson surprised you and spoiled it. The only force was the 1 alyson forced you to do. Which made the trick better and confused the crap out of them. You did have multiple outs but not the way everyone thinks. You just got really lucky didn't you. LOL: THAT SINGING EDITED VIDEO WAS GOLDENN

Bit of a weird guess but:
Why is the table so not just a normal table?
Yes, but he gives them the frame freely. They are smart enough and have made more than enough props to know to look for things like that.

Lovely trick and no idea how it was done BUT two things seem clear to me:
At 2:04 Alyson is clearly choosing a title in the TOP THIRD of the paper.
At 2:38 the close-up shows Alyson’s choice is now in the bottom half of the picture.
But I have no idea what this means, and I am pleased to see the trophy come down!
look how high up on the paper she signs compared to where the circle is when he turns the paper over to show the audience
Most gifts are opened by their recipients. ;)
Really fun trick!
Thanks, and that's true. Penn absolutely could have unwrapped it himself but because he didn't know what was going to happen I decided to open it myself and hold/angle it against the glare to ensure that the cameras got a good closeup shot on it for the second reveal.
What makes this great is that P&T allowed to check the record AND the paper.

Alyson's expressions are 😍😍
I noticed that the selected song was at the bottom half of the list, but Alyson drew a circle around the top half. Unless she did draw the circle with an upside down view, I think P&T are right that it was a force, but again I can't tell how you did that. Amazing performance!
I which case you’ll know my sister’s boyfriend’s name. Just leave it in the comments.
Great stuff, Keith. You made a ‘believer’ out of me.
Outrageous
(Look at how the most popular ones except old McDonald are either at the top or bottom.)
2. Old McDonald is the most popular popular and catchy of these, to the point even people outside of America know it in some shape or form.
3. Look at the instruments, they are there to create a sort of mental tune to which the viewer will conform, which will also favor OldMcDonald.
4. The way Alison is presented is also a factor, he tells her to pick something that Pen will most certainly know, so she has to go with the safest choice.
yeah, there is a heatpad on the right side of the table
Clearly you used a quantum mechanics on the plaque. The wave function collapsed to the correct wording when the choice was made. And in some parallel universe, I'm right.
Think the present could have had sliders and he had a videos prepared for any of the songs I think this was an impossible to fail trick
I really really hope this was not a force, and that there are other edited songs by Penn! Share them!
The plaque on the git showed that it was Old MacDonald all the way. Doubtful that could have been changed
@@JasonPicker It can. Very hard to do but it is possible.
It's not a force and yes he did make all those edited songs. Penn confirmed it in his podcast.
@@ashkanbashiri it's not a force but he made video for only one song. Keith himself says it on his channel.
It's easy.... She was in it as well. The producers and judges told her to pick that song.
That's against the rules and would defeat the purpose of the show.
Congrats
Very nice trick. Allison had a free choice. Any song could have been picked. Recorded multiple songs. The plaque can be adjusted.
But what about the platinum record? A fake?
I'm with ya. Let's go.
You rocked it, Keith!
Thanks Caleb! I appreciate it 😊🙏🏼
Penn gave him a very cold hug!
what if that record plate where the song is written is digital? and after she chose old macdonald his assistance changed the song name.
Penn singing the song as well though 🎵
That was amazing
Masuda would be proud!!!
Amazing performance and effect, one of the best
Simple and clean all the way through!
Seems like real magic as if you could have “froze time” to achieve this miracle 😉
Penn singing "Old McDonald" slayed me. i love it man.
Even though that's not the method Keith used, you should consider trying that yourself. I'm sure it would impress audiences.
@@kongmentalist when it was on the stage left of the table (where Alison circled it) or on the stage right where you read it? 😉
