FYI for U.S. viewers: It looks like brass bushings are a thing in the UK/EU electrical code. But in the U.S. the bushings are all steel or plastic. I cannot find any U.S. source for brass bushings. If anyone else can find one, please respond to this comment. U.S. viewers can find 2 inch brass slip nuts for plumbing, but they won't be round.McMaster-Carr has some for around $5US each.
Amazing work! little complicated specifically for me as I don't have lots of equipment , vey informative and knowledge video! I learn a lot from it, enjoy listening your narration, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this video! THANK YOU !!!
Very cool. I'm just starting to develop concepts for a music style, music video ideas, and costumes. I'm just beginning, but fun to see some of the possibilities here.
Although you do have to buy things like leather and packets of buckles etc in larger amounts than you need, so the initial outlay would be more, the unit cost per set of goggles is cheaper than $30 I'd say. To be honest though most of the online ones are fairly crappy quality. I've found most steampunks want to spend more than that and get something that's better quality.
Yeah exactly - if you want decent quality you gotta spend the money. Thing is, in the UK (or at least the events I go to), steampunk isn't cosplay - everyone makes their own clothes and gadgets tend to be made out of genuine materials, so there's a degree of authenticity to it. I rarely see stuff made out of foam or worbla (although there's some here and there), if you see what I mean. It's all real fabric, real leather, real metal etc.
The Dark Power I was planning on going realistic as possible with real leather real metal. It's just that comic Con is the only event I know of in my area.
Maybe the etymology of Steampunk comes a lot from Cyberpunk, which used sunglasses a lot as a motif , esp Mirrorshades anthology nod to it as a form. I reckon the 'goggle' popularity for Steampunk mimics the streetwise anonymity of the cyber sprawls, the seething mass of slum tech and the harsh urban survival themes.
You could try hardware websites too - these guys do them www.discount-electrical.co.uk/product.php/388623712/brass-female---ring---bush-2-inch/b211fd0accc2be680f95274dcb2741280/
You stated you got the brass bushes from a hardware store, was this a chain or local store? I also live in the UK. What diameter? Great job by the way.
Thanks. I've usually got them from eBay but they're available here too. I use 50mm/2 inch ones www.discount-electrical.co.uk/product.php/388623712/brass-female---ring---bush-2-inch/b211fd0accc2be680f95274dcb274128
Hiya. This is the only one I could see and that's ebay UK (also the listing doesn't say how many there are - £7 for one is mad!) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50MM-FEMALE-BRASS-BUSHES/253390387381 You can usually get them from hardware stores though, for example here (although again that's UK I'm afraid) www.discount-electrical.co.uk/product.php/388623712/brass-female---ring---bush-2-inch/b211fd0accc2be680f95274dcb274128 So I'd say check some hardware stores - I think US stores tend to have a greater range of stuff in them than in the UK. I'm not sure if they're called something different in the US too?
Yeah I've done a few of those ;) th-cam.com/video/NcBjV39TY3g/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qnfYDqtVKRA/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/TQkq1D1aa7o/w-d-xo.html
I like the goggles but have to give thumbs down on leather work look up some videos on how to stamp and burnish ur leather will get a much better look and quality
Seriously, dude? A thumbs down because he didn't use traditional leather crafting tools? They still turned out great! In fact, I gave him a thumbs up because he got such fantastic results using tools most people have in their home.

Why not get the plastic ones and spray paint bronze? Lightweight? check!
If you only get steel you could always rub n buff them?
This is so cool! Your work is beautiful!
Ahh, thank Amy that's very kind :)
Well done, great workmanship ,inspiring
Great video, helped a lot, I made a pair of these with my prescription lenses in them for a cool twist in my workshop! Thanks a million

If I get a costume one can I make attachments?
Yeah alot of people mod welding goggles or things like that.
Amazing work, it gave me some great ideas for my next build.
Thanks! Glad it was useful.
Would it be cheaper to buy a pair for 30 us dollars or to make one of these?

The Dark Power well might as well spend the extra money, I'm already planning on spending over a $1000 usd on my steampunk cosplay.

Hello, do you have any measurements for the leather pieces?
No i don't - I made some templates in card beforehand to make sure everything fit though, so that's worth a go.
These are nice as heck!
Thanks! :)

Yeah that's a good bet - steampunk definitely comes from cyberpunk. I reckon you're right.
Thanks for sharing, always great videos. What diameter are the brass bushes and the thickness of the leather please. I would like to make some myself.
Thanks - I'm using 50 mm brass bushes and 1.6-2.0 mm veg tan leather.
Thanks, I have had a look on ebay, none on there atm. Like you say they have probably all been bought up. Will keep looking.
You could try hardware websites too - these guys do them

Thanks very much! Thanks for watching ;)
No problem
Need your own shop
Thanks!
Do you have a link for the brass bush on eBay? I can't seem to find one. I am located in the US. Thanks.

@@thedarkpower , thank you!
How much would you charge to make me a pair of these and send them to me?
I'd say £120 + postage.
Can you make a steampunk mask?
Edward Ubeda lol he did
Yeah I've done a few of those ;)

th-cam.com/video/qnfYDqtVKRA/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/TQkq1D1aa7o/w-d-xo.html
The Dark Power however I would love to see you make a mask that only covers the bottom half of your face,
Maybe I'll get around to that one day - having your entire face covered all day is quite difficult to deal with.
The Dark Power I'm actually starting to design mine, thinking of doing some sort of mechanical jaw
Lol theyr wonderfull like a lot of eveylids 😁
🤣🤣
@@thedarkpower LOL ur a Monaco XD
Lol. The brown stuff left after sweating is the flux
Oh is it, interesting. I thought it was some form of oxidation or something. It's a pain to clean off.
@@thedarkpower yes it is. You can use light sand paper to rough up areas to be sweated. They will bond better and you can use flux precisely
random joke. my friend has a steam powered android for a girlfriend and she's hot!
Haha, ba-doom tish ;)
Nice one bro lol
Здорово,но не понятно

Seems a lot of work but the finished item's look well worth the skills and time involved... I would buy that for a dollar
Steve Draper if he wasn't in a different country I would pay 40 usd
Thanks Steve, yeah they're a little involved but not too bad ;)
I like the goggles but have to give thumbs down on leather work look up some videos on how to stamp and burnish ur leather will get a much better look and quality
Yep I'm not a professional leather worker, which I make clear in the video. If you want pro advice, go elsewhere.
Seriously, dude? A thumbs down because he didn't use traditional leather crafting tools? They still turned out great! In fact, I gave him a thumbs up because he got such fantastic results using tools most people have in their home.
