I love that two Brits travel to Sweden in an old Swedish car and are rescued by a Swede, in Sweden in an old British car. Good thing it happened when it did and it did make for some great content. Proof again of what a great bunch the classic car community are.
Loved the bridge shots too. I went from Copenhagen to Malmo a few years ago but by train and it was impressive.

I once took my Beetle on a road trip to Germany and back when I was 19 years old - paid extra for EU breakdown cover, and typically it didn't miss a beat UNTIL I got off the ferry back in Dover and the clutch cable snapped, and was left in a similar situation to you! 🤦‍♂ Being young and reckless I proceeded to drive it all the way home to Bath with no clutch - just rev match between gears and try not to stop - but if you must stop, try to stop in gear and then bump start on the starter motor, so it is possible if you're in a real pinch!

We did a railway tour of Sweden in the 1980s at the time they used boat trains, big ferries with railway lines on them, to get into Sweden it was a very strange The train rolled off the ferry and came to a station when we heard the sound of marching soldiers which was the border guards they came on board, wearing full military uniform with the peak of their hat going well over their face, it was really frightening thinking what sort of country are we coming to, when we looked out of the window to see that the station was next to a nudist beach. We were trying to look serious for these border guards, but we just couldn’t stop laughing. Sweden I’ve got to say is the most one of the beautiful places I’ve ever been to and the people were extremely friendly. And of course I love Volvos, especially the big ones i’ve owned over the years a 245 estate, 340 a 440 and a 740 estate I’m Not so keen on them now they don’t look like Volvos now they just look like any other car thank you for this video, and thank you for the trip down memory lane

The most unusual situation: an old Jag towing an old Volvo! And of course no Swedes will be swearing at you when you were stranded at the roadside in one of the toughest cars they've built.
The first time I've driven into Scandinavia was in 1994, in an Opel Kadett which conveniently broke down at a motorway services: the throttle cable broke. Being an old Opel, it could be fixed with simple tools and same as you. I didn't bring that tool of course. Breakdown assistance was hesistant to make an emergency repair (rather towed the car to a garage, which were closed for the weekend anyway), bribed him with a few bottles of Grolsch beer we had with us so we could go on our way.
I've visited the Volvo museum in Göteborg and the Saab museum back in 2015, sadly not in a Volvo nor Saab, but great places to visit none the less.

@@furiousdriving oh yes, I've had many breakdowns in the Matra Murena and every time the ANWB guy (Dutch counterpart of the AA) was happy to work on such simple mechanics. One elderly guy even knew exactly what the problem was, because he used to work on the cars when they were new, in fact he needed more time to get the correct spanner than fixing the actual problem. And then took a 10 minute walk on memory lane!

Then they find out the dismembered corpse is in fact to different dead people. I noticed in the "Mix" suggested by YT that the Volvo appears with a road warning triangle. I had reason to use mine the other day when my BMW E60 failed to proceed, after a number of near-misses due to abysmal driving and a seemingly-advisory 30mph speed limit. It lasted less than ten minutes before someone drove over it...

Please do more of these road journies, MATT (sorry for calling you "Chris" in a previous post!)....My biggest pleasures in life are cars (particularly classics), travel (especially the UK and Europe), and a good road trip. What better way to put purpose into a road trip then to bring the Volvo back to its nest? I think McDonalds best demonstrates its purpose here....I've always found that if you want food quickly and don't want to put much thought into an order, McDonalds was always great for any US road trips, but on a journey across Europe, where time and speed are of importance, it takes the guesswork out of food and drink. That familiarity and consistency is the plus side of multinational corporations. That being said, our interests diverge with regards to the tea shelf....I never eat or drink in my cars! Thanks, Matt! As always, a magnificent and upbeat presentation!

Some spectacular scenery with the harbour, bridges and tunnels making it worth traveling for.
The classic Jag XJ amd Volvo make for a good looking breakdiwn if there is such a thing... A classy combination there.
I did womder when the gears started playing up if it was the clutch at fault. A few years ago the hydraulic clutch failed in my wifes Fiat 500 but i was able to reciver the car and drive it home, then to a garage the following day by starting the car in gear and rev matching in order to crash through the gears smoothly. Any ooint where i had to stop neutral was engaged while rolling and the process of starting the car in gear repeated. Not so bad to get you home but not ideal when your in an unfamiliar country hundreds of miles from home. As you said in the previous video though the added jeopardy makes for interesting TH-cam viewing.
Nice to see Adams car collection. ThebJags are stunning but im.a sucker for a P6 V8.

I worked in Sweden some years ago and stayed in both Gothenburg and Trollhättan and in the morning when I looked out of the window in Trollhättan every car in sight was a Saab! Not quite the same in Göteborg but still a lot of Volvos.😅

That for me was an "Epic" journey. Thank the Lord you were able to call upon someone. From your (contacts) list to assist. Phew...

Matt, did you suggest at about 29:00 that Barry is a big spanner? That’s not v friendly :)
Ps. Always amazed at how most Swedes speak English better than a majority of brits (innit). Must be something in the air, or the education system. My old mate Sven is the same: you’d barely know he wasn’t from somewhere in the south of England.

    What an exciting adventure!
I wonder if rev matching would have worked in that situation...?
    Anyhow, thanks for sharing!

Should've blasted out some ABBA whilst driving in Sweden!

I was thinking exactly the same after watching Part 1!
Two great ABBA songs would have been appropriate that day:
      1) 'SOS' :
      "Whatever happened to our car?
      I wish I understood
It used to be so nice,
It used to be so good."
      2) 'Super Trouper' :
"Today the Super Trooper Adam's going to find me
Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
      Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
      Feeling like a Number 1"

Back in the day I drive my 1983 metro to Scotland. The clutch slave cylinder fractured en route and I had to limp the last 30 miles in 3rd gear. It finally conked out the next day and The AA came out and bled it which let me drive to the nearest garage to get it fixed.

Nice trip - wish i could join in this trip with mine 740 2.3 turbo from Latvia, mine is in the same color and the same interior. I always wanted to make a trip to Sweden where mine was made. Maybe next year.😜
