Trek Marlin 5 vs THE FUNNEST TRAIL I'VE RIDDEN

  • In this video I ride the funnest trail I’ve ever ridden so far on my Trek Marlin 5: The Mississippi Bar Loop Trail in Fair Oaks, California. There are a ton of mountain bike features on this trail and a lot of beautiful views since it runs next to Lake Natoma. Even though I had a complete wipeout on this trail I still loved going there the next day (I had to rerecord due to camera issues).

      GoPro 10 is coming out with amazing built in stabilization and 5k footage. Would love to see your videos shot with that and maybe a Bluetooth mic. Hopefully the Trek team sees how much everyone watches your videos. Awesome video, after watching I finally called the bike shop and ordered the Marlin 5!!! Thanks again.

    Good riding, good fun, Tal. I like how you wrapped a rubber inner tube around that frame to manage chain slap (and it looks bad ass too). I did that to my bike also. The Marlin 5 frame should be able handle almost any kind of riding. Just upgrade parts as they wear out, break, or when you desire some better components.

    I love watching your vids. I started with a Marlin 7 after watching your vids. After a few weeks I sold it and grabbed a Roscoe 8.
    If you ever get a chance to ride the Roscoe, it will be super hard to go back to the Marlin. Much more comfortable and handles the most intense terrain.

    Very useful video. Thanks for sharing. Gives me a good perspective of the type of riding this bike is suitable for. Maybe the Dual Sport is more up my alley if I’m looking for a mix of road and mountain biking. I’m a bit older so can’t be as risky / brave as you are - but it sure does look like a LOT of fun. Keep it up.

    I'm thinking of getting a Marlin 7 for my weekend ride around town for fitness. I had a slipped disc 2 years ago but cycling really helped. I'm 5'7 and using a giant size S bike as it's more comfortable and lighter. Do you think I should get it or a hybrid bike?

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know Trek's hybrid bikes are more fitness oriented, especially the FX which has a lot of fitness specific features. The marlin 7 is great as a beginner mountain bike or if you want to ride some biking trails more often, but if you prefer to stay on the road the FX bikes will be faster, lighter, and better for fitness overall. If you want something in the middle, the dual sport bikes have suspension works but thinner tires so they are not as robust as the marlins, but much better for road and light trail riding.

    Would this bike would be good for 5'6" for a beginner of mar.6?

      A medium frame would fit your height better for sure. Was that the question you were asking?

    Please can you or anyone tell is merlin 5 also good for flat road long rides???????

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have ridden it on the road and it’s definitely not bad, but if you’re planning on sticking to the road more often, a hybrid bike is probably a better option since it’s going to be lighter and overall easier to deal with on the road.

    if i were you, try to get into a lower gear while riding (from 10 to 12), as it will be easier to ride downhill, and on straights you'll maintain speed without using too much effort.

    You are definitely in the wrong gear going up, you are pedaling and going no where fast. You need to be on a lower gear, and you should make it up those hills.
