On the June 15 episode of Collision it was said that Juice cannot defend the belts and it has to be Jay, so them doing so is probably why they were stripped. Helps if you pay attention.
AEW just makes up rules as they go
We have had interim champions for both the men's and women's world titles, rather than vacating the belt due to injury. Wheeler Yuta was out for months and they didn't vacate that title. And as for the freebird part, when Adam Cole got injured, MJF was allowed to defend the ROH tag titles by himself and with Samoa Joe. Now Jay White is injured, and his three stable mates are going to be a trio in the next trios title match, but they have to vacate the titles rather than having their fourth guy fill in. Helps if it makes sense.

I think Kahn is trying to build his own Liger/Tiger Mask. A character they can really market, especially to younger viewers. Liger especially was a very big part of WCW and one of the reasons i got into Japanese wrestling alongside Ultimo Dragon.

At this point I don’t want to see any promotions vacate any more titles unless they absolutely have to. Especially AEW/ROH, they’ve got so many damn titles and some like the Trios belts are so far down the card that no one really notices when they aren’t featured on TV for weeks at a time.
WWE & NXT have more titles. Do you complain about them?

Jay White, then they are won by v2 featuring Juice Robinson, it could be used to sow dissention between Jay and Juice? Well, we all said back when BCG won the trios belts that it felt like it was a suboptimal use of Jay White. So at least now we don't have that problem anymore? It's still dumb though.

The trios titles were def props...but it really is a weird choice to vacate the belts especially with Juice back....well, now we get 2 trios tournaments or will the ROH belts get retired? A 4 teams trios match with each fall being a group of belts would have fixed this problem easily....sigh and Tony wants to create a character even though 60% of his roster isn't getting TV time lol Brutal stuff

I would have booked The BC Gold vs The Patriarchy vs H.O.B in a 3 way trios ladder match at ALL IN. Just when Jay is about to reach for the titles, Adam Cole returns and pushes Jay White off and costing him the match. WHY? Jay White concussed Adam at Forbidden Door 2022. This let him miss majority of that year and set him on the path with MJF last year. We can get Jay vs Adam Cole at Wrestle dream. I'd book Adam Cole to win and ''take out Jay'' going up against Swerve at Full Gear where Jay returns and screws Adam Cole. They can have a stipulation match where Jay wins and in the rubber match, a shot at Swerve for World's end is at stake. Jay wins when Wardlow turns on Cole as they've teased tension between the two. Jay goes on to fight Swerve and turns heel in the match to win the title at World's end. The C2 tournament winner should receive an AEW title at Revolution the following year going forward. I'd book Edge to win and he puts over Jay at Revolution starting his title reign off strong.. I hope this JAY Injury is kayfabe and not real though.
