I'd like to tell a brief story of why I'm a Catholic today. Growing up, my family weren't actually regular church-goers, or connected to any particular denomination, but from time to time, my mom took us to lots of various churches -- depending on where we happened to be living at the time. (we moved a lot) When I was 15, we moved to a rural area known as Irish Settlement, and not far from our farm was a small 150 year old Catholic church. I'd been inside lots of different churches by then, but I'd never stepped inside a Catholic church. So, one day, out of pure curiosity, I walked up the gravel road and went inside to explore that church just to see what it looked like. Since it was completely open at that time, I walked around every part of that little church, and knew for a fact that there was no one else there, but me. I was alone. However, I became completely aware that I was NOT alone there. I sensed there was a living Being there, and my attention was drawn to the "box" at the center of the Altar. Keep in mind, that Being I sensed was never inside any of the other churches I'd been in. But, I knew He was there -- right up front at the center. And, keep in mind that I knew NOTHING of the Tabernacle, or The Holy Eucharist. I knelt. Upon leaving, I found a Baltimore Catechism laying on a small table at the entrance. So, I stole it. Curiosity and thievery. That's why I'm a Catholic.

Haha! What a nice story I’m considering Catholicism myself. I was born Catholic but I was an atheist for my teenage years and my twenties. Now I’ve come to God and looking back into the churches

Don't worry you did not steal anything. Catholics hate to throw away religious books, so they intentionally leave them in the churches for anyone interested.

We worship Christ, Christ IS the Eucharist.
"Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.'" - Luke 22:19
Time for a question for YOU: What does the bible say to do in order to be forgiven of our sins??

Also, go read what the Church Fathers had to say about all of this. Remember, every Christian believed in the True Presence until the Protestants decided to ditch that, thinking they were more wise than 1500yrs of Christians before them. Martin Luther even believed in the True Presence. Every saint ever believed in it.

tim spangler John 6: 22 The Bread of Life Discourse.22* The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left.23* Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks.24When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.25And when they found him across the sea they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”26Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.27Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life,* which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”l28So they said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”30So they said to him, “What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?m31* Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:n
‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
32So Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.o33For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34p So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”35* Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.q36But I told you that although you have seen [me], you do not believe.r37Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,38because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.s39And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it [on] the last day.t40For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him [on] the last day.”u
41The Jews murmured about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,”42and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”v43Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring* among yourselves.w44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.45It is written in the prophets:
‘They shall all be taught by God.’
Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.x46Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.y47Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.48I am the bread of life.49Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;z50this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.51I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”a
52The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?”53Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.54Whoever eats* my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.55For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.57Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.b58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”59These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
The Words of Eternal Life.*60Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”61Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you?62What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?*63It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh* is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.64But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him.c65And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”
66As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.67Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”68Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.69We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”d70Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?”71He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve.e

tim spangler, The Bread is not literally bread that came down but his whole body, blood, soul and divinity came down from heaven.
but if you dont believe like the jews are, its up to you, were not forcing you. Were just here to tell you the Truth. Becuz a lot of non- catholics converted into Catholics even Atheist converted into catholic, why are they converted? because of Gods Love that they were given a chance to enlighten their hearts by the Holy Spirit, thats called pentecost and I pray and hope that you too will be Enlightened by the Holy Spirit someday. God bless you.

In the Eucharist, God remembers and renews the convenant made in Christ's blood and body. The Eucharist is The Passover meal prescibed by Moses which included eating an unblemished Lamb. Jesus as Lamb of God (Revelation) is the Passover Lamb whose flesh and blood would be eaten in order to gain eternal life.
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink.(John 6 : 53-55)

He is equipped enough of dogmatic, historicity, or contemporary experience talks in the life of the church.
Being a convert from protestant Baptist to Catholic church is also much of a help on his part to help the Catholic church. And to enlighten the protestants.

Jesus Castanares I agree... I am returning to Catholicism too and Steve Ray is helping me understand more of the meaning of our practices, the history and most why we hang on to our traditions that the Protestants could never understand because they hold on too much with their proof text basing most to the New Testament. I also recommend to search for Scott Hahn... For me, he is just a brilliant bible scholar and one thing I really like about him is his humility and the tone of his voice is so calming calling and persuading us for peace and not really of so much debate between Catholics and Protestants and even so, it can’t be avoided for a debate, Steve Hahn just delivers the truth tracing back the history of the early Christians which is rooted in the Old Testament which the latter will always have a hard time in accepting the truth. God bless us all.

You are what you eat. I love the Eucharist. Jesus born in a manger is in itself significant in the sense that He truly is the food that could satisfy out hunger. The trough in the manger that serves his little bed is where the food for the animals are placed. So for us it seems that from the beginning of time, that He wants us to recognise that he alone could satisfy our hunger and whenever we partake of his body and blood in communion, we also share in his divinity. It is true that we become what we eat not totally but getting there, hopefully.

For protestants saying that is a metaphor: no. It is not.
The word Jesus used to refer to His Flesh being TRULY a food is "alethés", which means THE REAL THING, not a metaphor. In other passages Jesus uses the word "amén" which means metaphor, but not when He talks about His flesh.
    It is so simple, friends.

54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
I would be in agreement with you however Jesus explains what he means by the above verses , same chapter just a few verses later have a look .
      john 6 v 63
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
The word quickeneth ( to make alive ) Holy Spirit joined together with our Spirit 1 Corinthians 6 v 17 look it up .
Colossians 1 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation
Not through sacraments or behaviour modification but through his finished work.

You are a sinner if you receive communion you are still a sinner
Eating Jesus does not save you

He left us the Holy Spirit
      Have you accepted Jesus

      Lost and not found
      You must repent and change
Jesus said it’s not what you eat but how you think that’s important
You really think a dirty sinner is clean by going to communion?
Eat some holy wafer given to you by a priest who has raped children or is gay and that will make you holy
Praying to Jesus mom when he never said to do so
      Praying to saints

      Use birth control
      You are no Catholic
      Where are your works

A am a cradle Catholic and I have been invited to protestant churches a number of times by some friends who have left the Catholic Church. I feel that there is something missing in all of their preaching service and Sunday service. I feel empty inside because I am missing the consecration, the beautiful Catholic prayers and most of all there is no holy communion where we receive Jesus Christ physically and spiritually in the consecrated host. You are very right. There is no holy sacrifice of the mass in all the protestant churches. I feel their service is all about preaching and there is no holy sacrifice which we Catholics go to mass for. The consecration and holy communion is the climax of the holy sacrifice. I never went to their service anymore because their is a great emptiness in their churches. I decided to stay Catholic despite their invitation. Listening to you made me realize all the more why I should stay being Catholic. The Catholic Church is one , holy , catholic and apostolic, which all the protestant church denominations numbering 33.000 + can not be and will never be. I love being a Catholic. All my direct ancestors and my family have remained catholic all their lives.

    • @xavieranbu
      @xavieranbu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@Sterling Crowne There were different churches under one umbrella. You can read in Acts 15, when there was confusion about circumcision, both Paul and Barnabas went back to Jerusalem to meet Peter to take decision. Paul could have decide on his own, since he was filled with the holy spirit; still he went back to discuss. So it was one church till Martin Luther started his own.

    • @xavieranbu

@Sterling Crowne Matthew 16 is not just a conversation; rather it was a decision making, which is followed by John 21.
Today, which denomination of the church doesn't have a head? Even a simple prayer group has head, although they split in few months.
Nothing wrong to have a Pope to guide the church, which was created by Jesus by Himself and His Church (Matthew 16:18-19).

First, there is a difference between trolling and making a valid argument that is the basis for dialogue right? We are called to expose false teaching; Eph 5:11. Also, your last line to us is a cry for help. Why in the world would we leave you alone to 'fight for your redemption until the final hour?' You will pray to mary who can't hear you for your soul and when you die you'll lift up your eyes in hell. Hows that something we would let someone do? "Hey, i'm drowning but don't jump in to save me. I'll wait until my last breath THEN cry out for help to a person who can't pull me from the water.' That'll do it right? And we don't fight for our redemption. Jesus did that. We receive what Jesus paid for; Mark 10:45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and give His life a ransom for many. He paid the ransom, not you.

@bornagainsaint1. Jesus said in John 6:30 - 50 to eat His body and drink His blood to inherit eternal life and those who do will be risen up on the last day. You are now consuming mere wafer when you left the Catholic Church. No eternal life, no resurrection on the last day. St Paul taught on 1 Cor 11:29 that
For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
If the Eucharist was mere wafer, saint and sinner can just eat it without any fear of punishment from God.
Do not merely listen to Protestant propaganda. Go and find out the true reasons from reliable Catholic sources instead of merely listening to one sided biased Protestant views. Even in a court room, the judge has to listen to both plaintiff and defendant and give a fair hearing to both sides of the argument.

@Sterling Crowne 2000 + years of the Eucharist and even Luther never denied Christ in the Eucharist and here you are reducing the Eucharist to a mere 'metaphor'.
Do you claim to be bigger than any of these in matters of faith?
John 6:55 "For my flesh is food indeed and my blood is drink indeed"
Is this what you call a 'metaphor'?
Jesus puts in plain words and you laugh it off calling it a 'metaphor'
Because for the beliefs you hold at present, no other explanation would suffice for you.
The Jews thought that the bread that filled their stomachs gave them life - true, but the manna fed only their bodies.
This is where Jesus corrects them, in that his flesh and blood are food for the spirit of man.
God is spirit and in the Eucharist He feeds men with Himself incarnate in His only Son, Jesus.

@Sterling Crowne Did Jesus tell you personally what he hates and what he loves?
      I guess not....
Whatever Jesus has said is in the Bible, so stick to it when you preach.
On the road to Emmaus the two disciples did not recognise Jesus till he broke the bread with them.
For they remembered that the Lord had asked that this be done in His memory.
You may tell me as to who started all this rabble about the Eucharist not being true.

@Sterling Crowne And yes, I knew that Luther was a Catholic. But he didn't protest because of the Eucharist.
All because your new car gets a dent on it, you don't just replace the whole car. But Luther chose to do just that and it cost him much.

    • @jery2911
      @jery2911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Sterling Crowne Jesus said believe in me, and what does he ask the Jews to believe in - His very words. And are not what I quoted Jesus' very words?
The point is that, you skip these verses because it is undigestable just as it was to the Jews who left Jesus.
Why does Jesus take such pains to tell them thrice that his flesh is food and his blood is drink?
You overlook it and when I draw it into the discussion you caste it away and then you say that it's all Roman Catholic teaching...
The popes didn't start all this...as you keep stating.

And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared in the wilderness small, and as it were beaten with a pestle, like unto the hoar frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another: Manhu! ["What is this!"] for they knew not what it was. And Moses said to them: This is the bread, which the Lord hath given you to eat. And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed white, and the taste thereof like to flour with honey.

I know this has been a year..and I am late..I just ran across it now? Sir, I made a mistake of drinking the grape juice and saltine crackers in a Christian church because I was hungry...so there, we are even with the hat in the altar...I just wanted to tell u my experience, means a friend of mine tried to convert me..and it never happened...even my sister...but u made the right choice...I didn't really feel anything .but with the Holy Eucharist I did feel it...and it is true for the true devotees , always a Catholic..I passed the test...with my sister and my friend's intention of converting me...it never happened..one thing though, what the Catholic faith wants us to respect and should not criticize other faith which our priests and our faith always teaches us to do: humility...

Eating and Drinking Refers to Believing
However, in this conversation Jesus also says some things that are more difficult to understand. Yet as the rest of the conversation makes clear, these are also words of life.
After saying that He is the living bread that came down from heaven, Jesus tells the Jews that in order to have life they must eat His flesh and drink His blood (vv 51-53). These words proved hard to comprehend for the audience. In v 60, they say that what He just said is a “difficult statement,” and basically ask who can understand it. They recognize that Jesus cannot literally give His flesh for them to eat (v 52).
While many have seen an allusion to the Lord’s Supper in Jesus’ words about eating His flesh and drinking His blood, this is not likely because the Lord’s Supper had not yet been instituted. It is clear from the passage that the Lord is using the phrases “to eat my flesh” and “to drink my blood” as illustrations. When one believes Jesus, it is as if they are figuratively “eating” His flesh and “drinking” His blood. That is, they are taking His words in.
Jesus makes it clear that He does not mean that one must literally eat His flesh and drink His blood in v 63: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” It is not the eating of His literal flesh or drinking His literal blood that gives life, but the words that He spoke (“they are life”). In fact, He says that the literal flesh is of no profit.
In the context, Jesus is speaking about the gift of eternal life. In the same way one would eat or drink something, when one believes in the promise of Christ for eternal life, he or she appropriates that gift. The Jews who were listening to Jesus took His illustration too literally.

John 3:14 As Moses lifted up the bronze serpent in the wilderness so as the Son of Man must be lifted up. Question: Is this lifted up Jesus on the cross a false God? 1 Corinthians 1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

So true. Since he is not an officiant (bishop or priest) saying Mass, no layman should be wearing a hat in a Catholic Church. It's disrespectful to God, and that is what is paramount.

He is not in a Mass or any form of worship and probably in a conference room not a church giving a talk. We take off the hat during worship otherwise men would never wear hats because we are always in the presence of God. But not in the same degree every where as during worship.
