    Ok look I couldn't understand anything you said as the beard is beyond distracting that's the way I could describe nicely what it looks like

    • @ChaseTheHeat
      @ChaseTheHeat  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I hate the fact that my look is off-putting enough that is ruins the experience of watching. I'm sorry.
      I don't spend too much time talking about branding and image; however, I am known for the look you don't like. To be 100% honest there are times I would like to shave it off. Afterall, I have had it for 8 years.
      I don't think it would be wise at this point to shave. When I was in a special on Netflix, they very clearly said, and only after I signed the contract, that they did NOT want me to shave my goatee.
      The very same thing happened with the Hulu/Disney+ reality show I am in. "Don't shave the goatee". It wasn't in my contract but absolutely came from above.
      When you or I like it or not, it is something that I am known for worldwide so getting rid of it would not be a wise move. At least not at this moment.
      On the plus side, when I retire, I can shave my goatee and hopefully blend in then and not get recognized as often.
      Also, my look was so distracting that you literally couldn't understand what I was saying?! That sounds like something you maybe should look into. Doesn't sound healthy or normal. Good luck with that, and again, I'm sorry my look was so distracting to you.

    Lots of good insight for the questions most commonly posed to us.
    It's interesting how distinct reaper flavor is. Most people I've met it's almost love it or hate it.
    I'm curious about those primotalis for sure. I know Motta uses a version of them more or less with his harvest edition sauce and it's one of my absolute favorites on heat and flavor.

    What a pro! Can hold a conversation and not have adverse reactions to the heat. When I watch these mass heat and sheer amount of volume food challenges, I often wonder how it affects human physiology beyond completing the challenge. Seeing LA Beast Vomit, is a real reaction to rancid foods. Seeing Molly Scheuyer eat 12 pounds of canned cheese is enough to make my hurl. I appreciate the feedback on how this can affect a body.

  • @andrewvermeire6125
    @andrewvermeire6125 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another thing to consider on this topic is that capsaicin should be broke down in the stomach by digestive juices. If someone feels the heat too much later, my theory is that they need to enjoy that burn in the mouth a bit longer. They break the pepper flesh down more by chewing before it is sent along to the rest of the body. Then the heat is broke down in the stomach and doesn't have the chance to burn ya twice. You all see how long Johnny chews his pods.

    Hypersalivation happens when your body thinks you might throw up its to protect the teeh from the acid of vomit its believed. Happens to me if i consume too much tobacco too rapidly, i know im not going to vomit I've "road the wave" too many times but my mouth still starts to water like i was about to bite into some fresh watermelon.
    Just thought id throw this out, might be related to what Johnny said about a lot of saliva.

    Only Johnny smiles like that when he cuts a super-hot pepper open. Mere mortals run away screaming in fear, but not Johnny. It’s fascinating to me how one man can handle what would bring so many others to their knees.
    Thanks for addressing the bathroom question. I had never asked it, because I’d already come to the conclusion that you had built up a total-body tolerance to heat that made it a non-issue, and I was correct. Glad you set other’s minds at ease, though. :)
    And, I know what you mean about being able to taste other flavors besides heat. I can taste the fruitiness of a habanero pepper now, and that didn’t used to be the case. But something like a Carolina Reaper? No way, all I’d get from that would be heat, guaranteed.
    Keep doing what you do, Johnny, you’re a gem. -Glenn

    Watching this whilst eating some ghost sauce on cheese on toast. I joined the "reaper club" a couple of weeks ago, after cooking it up in a curry, I ate it as a side dish. Took me half an hour, eating it in small morsels with a madras (to cool me down! 😅) it was stupidly hot but whilst I've got a reasonable tolerance, I'm no chilli head. I have to say though that the ensuing trauma to my stomach and intestines caused no end of turmoil for the following 4-5 hours. Surprisingly there was no issue the next morning, but I'd never try and eat one whole in one mouthful, that's madness. That said, they do vary in heat a lot from pepper to pepper, hence you see a scoville heat range for each type of pepper, so you might just get lucky, or unlucky depending on how you see it!

    Great answers to the questions! 👍😎 I've found that folks obsessed with the bathroom question have that problem themselves and think everyone else has the same issue but just don't want to admit it. The refined palette from being able to taste flavors instead of just heat is a double-edged sword; when you can taste all the subtleties, you get to enjoy the full taste of both the nasty stuff as well as the great stuff

  • @darkwyng98
    @darkwyng98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your explanation on this is spot on. I can distinctly remember a time in my life when I couldn't eat thai food because the spices were just too much for me, and over the years I've built a tolerance to where it doesn't really matter what the sauce is, I'll try it, and be able to ride the heat out with minimal issues. I've never been a fan of eating fresh pods, I'd rather cook them into something but I've had reapers before and they sit around a seven for me. Still very warm. The hottest for me has been something called "Pepper B" from Baker's peppers. It was an odd heat- felt more like a bee was in my mouth and stung me than any kind of heat. I'm interested in those Fatali Jigsaws though. Can't wait to get some =)

    Thank you! you do a great job of going into detail the different areas of tolerance throughout the body and among individuals and describing the variation of flavors and heat profiles. I feel like those things aren't talked about enough and people feel like peppers are peppers and heat is heat and also that their tolerance can't be built.. but their tolerance CAN be built, if they desire it to be, and they can come to enjoy new flavors and heat levels while still tasting their food.
    I recently ate my first dried carolina reaper and would love to try a fresh one now. I also did the 2018 paqui one chip :) (working on my stomach tolerance cause apparently it's low.. but mouth tolerance is great). Again, thank you for this great video!!!

    Although I have never eaten a pod raw, I do have a vodka with it in.
    The issue with a Carolina Reaper, for me, is that gut wrench immediately following.
    It typically gets me when I've had a whack load of BBQ/buffet food around a mates house (for e.g.). The mouth burn is not the issue...any more.
    I also agree with regards to the ghost pepper comments. We have a curry house near me which does a chicken Naga curry. Although it's hot, it's a nice burn...it peaks, but then doesn't build mouthful after mouthful.
    It gets to the level you want, then fades away. Amazing pepper...my favourite in fact. That said, I'd likely shy away from eating them raw.

    I'm not sure if it was a Reaper or a Butch T that I ate raw but let's just say it was a painful experience to which I ended up having laryngitis for a few days after it. It was too hot, I obviously wasn't ready for it so I tried to puke it out and that just made it worse. The pain lasted for about 15 minutes straight, milk only helped for a few seconds but that was it. The next day I cooked an actual reaper with eggs and cheese, made an omelet and it was absolutely delicious with the heat being much more tolerable.

    If it's the same as me, I think people are curious because most people here really like spicy food without being quite at your level.
    So we're training to be more at ease with the superhots and wonder if it's possible to get to a point where we can enjoy them too without paying for it afterwards.
    I'm okay with paying for it while I train though.
    Right now scotch bonnets and habanero do me good but a ghost would probably already be really uncomfortable

    I like this guy because he puts my chili eating into perspective. Put me up next to the average person and they may recoil in horror watching me eat reaper's and scorpion peppers which do taste better. But put me next to this guy and I'm tapping out way before him. I'm not even eating whole, raw peppers and I don't even know if I could. To me there is no reason to try. My chili eating habits is purely natural and organically driven. I started off eating table salsa at parties and houses and restaurants and just naturally will eat the hot foods. I'm not challenging myself with new pain tolerances or anything it just tastes so good. I even use chilis in everything I make even if you don't know they are in their because they just improve the flavor of everything.

    • @rxw5520
      @rxw5520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ed Curry says he eats 3 a day to maintain tolerance. The receptors the capsaicin molecule latches onto will tell the brain there’s a hot temperature at that location. When they’re constantly stimulated though they change and/or are down regulated (they become less numerous and less responsive to the capsaicin molecule) to send less hot signals to the brain.

    The worse thing for me is when I go take a leak after and I forget to wash my hands. I can even accidentally rub my eyes now and that's tolerable. But really I have to wash my hands like three times before I go number one. I do have a larger reaction than you do for sure though, but I also like it. I got used to it because capsicum is the only thing that helps with my arthritis. So I've also built up very high tolerance.

    Hahaha, when you ate that and said, "That's what I love about the reaper..." not what I would have said, but the heat profile of the reaper does come up with violence. And the 3 tolerances is exactly right. I got into trouble one day when my mouth had no problem eating reapers but the "oval office" was under construction that day: Imagine putting Neosporin made out of reapers onto your "owies" and you know why I felt like I was "in trouble". I still eat them though, just maybe not with as much enthusiasm. Ha ha.

    The tongue is the fastest healing part of the body, also the strongest muscle for most people. Your tastebuds regenerate extremely fast after a burn from hot foods. With in a day or so. Great video Johnny.

    • @ChaseTheHeat
      @ChaseTheHeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate, but I'm afraid, taste buds do not get "burned" by spice. They just don't. There is nothing needed to regenerate. Keep chasing it mate!
