The only time I've ever vomited from "brownies"... I ate a whole one when my buddy, who had made them, suggested that I only eat half of one... yeah, big mistake lol. Still went to work like 6 hours later... that was a rather interesting shift lol
That's funny. I love the flavor of jalapenos and I just really don't like the way serranos taste at all. I'd hide them in recipes for their heat, but I always felt like I needed to mask their flavor.
You rule Johnny! Your enthusiasm is contagious and you've got me chasing heat drinking Cholula out the bottle (I know it's about as mild as it gets but it's all I've got to play with). I'm definitely gonna have to pick up some cayenne's and jalapeno's next time I'm at the supermarket.
Just putting it out there. There should be a pepper wiki. 🌶 It should have the name of the plant, average pod size, average plant height, name of the original grower, the generation the grower started distribution and plant heritage. More? Then just have 1000+ sommelier tasting words in a tag list. Eg; Carolina Reaper: slightly sweet, cherry, licorice, star anise, aromatic, botanical. And then use a radar chart to show burn location. Tongue, lips, cheeks, back of throat, chest, teeth sometimes even. I forget Reaper burn location. I think it's back of the throat, cheeks(?), and top of tongue? Then give a brief description of anything interesting and history. How it was made, grower intentions et cetera. Maybe include other taste disruptions. Been thinking about this for awhile but I dont have the computer skills anymore 😅
The fandom wiki group (originally wikia) has a very easy tool for making wikis. Maybe that's worth checking out. It's for instance the host of the harry potter wiki etc. They allow all kinds of wikis except for private ones. So a chili wiki would be fair game
Should be a lot of fun with friends and family. Our chaplain, among other people, were thrilled to collect some pods to share with church family. He said they had a lot of fun playing with the fire of my ghost pepper pods. FYI, it took a long time for the ghost pepper to reach the ripe pod stage. Doesn't produce nearly so fast as bananas and jalapenos. And be careful of overwatering. I'd stress the plant just a little bit and allow soil to dry. If soil is damp about an inch down leave it be until it isn't. It's also said that you can gently tickle the flowers to accelerate pollination. Google and see.
Hi I’ve watched soooo many of your videos and love your content!! I wish I had chili heads around me! I’ve been a chili head for a long time a little over a decade and I have to say in my area it’s soooo hard to find other chili heads as though they don’t exist! That’s why I love watching your content! To see there are others out there like me who absolutely love heat and spice and enjoy every second of it! So thank u so much!
Amateur chili head here. Awesome video! I love hearing about the ins and outs of the addiction! I'm definitely getting back into it since my recent findings of your channel, I've actually just ordered from Hellfire and bought myself their Blueberry Hell sauce! Can't wait!
👍 Johnny!!! This may be one of my favorite videos yet. I loved the insight and it truly made me feel like part of the community. I love the heat but up until this point I've never pushed myself past my comfort level. It is now time to take a step outside my box and give myself a new experience.
You are so passionate about peppers. You specifically see it at 8:45 and it just makes me happy seeing someone else be so happy about something so... unusual I guess? I say unusual because you don't see many people just chowing down on some hot ass peppers like it's nothing. Love the content man, never stop chasing that heat!
My stomach is still in training. So friday night is my night to really ramp up the heat. Tonight its 4 tube of terror peanuts in some chili. Cheers family!
Just joined the other day and love all the videos. Not a chili head yet, so I came along at the right time it seems. I've always liked spicier food than all friends and family, and as of late I have just had a crazy hankering for more hot stuff, as of right now just tons of hot sauces and spicy novelty foods. got a tons of sauces, but its time to train and move up to peppers. Thanks for the vid!
I have watched random videos here and there from you over the years. This is a wonderful video to showcase how to enjoy this niche. Honest and informative to those who want to try without turning them off this interest. Bravo. Keep these tips up. 👍🏻✌🏻
One of My customers tried a sample from My bottle of Painapple and loved it , He ordered and is very happy with it . Thank You . Bryan Calgary has CTH and Haff Fans.
I had an orange habanero accidentally cross with a bhut jalokia, it produced the best tasting pods I've ever had. I've kept the strain going for about 6 years now, its my favorite chili, I estimate about 600-750k scovilles
@@MichaelClark-uw7ex Why not have 1 room where you throw a few different types together if You are just going to eat them , You might find a Franken pod like You did that is fantastic. I have a room going doing just that for this Year.
Thank you Johnny.... I love growing Chilis and I love the zing .... yet I am a total wimp when it comes to serious heat. Your advice encourages me to press forward. Salute from New Zealand.
Been watching all your vids. Enjoy them. Nice video explaining the chilli journey. Earlier today bought a ghost chilli plant and some red habanero seeds which I have planted already.
I’ve been a lover of spicy foods since I was about 16 when a classmate dared me to eat a whole orange habanero and swallow it for $10 on a bet. I did. I kinda suffered but I also loved it. I eat crazy hot foods and always spice it up at Thai and Indian restaurants. Still, of all the ones I’ve grown I gotta say the Caribbean Red habanero is my favorite overall. It’s the perfect balance of intense heat and a distinguishing fruity flavor that goes well with most spicy dishes.
Thank you thank you thank you! For saying the real ChiliHeads don't prank people, because you are correct Sir! I have said this for years and it's nice to get confirmation! Love your stuff! Keep it up!
Im a medium level chillie head .ive learnt to respect the heat no matter the level ..pranking people with chillie peppers i dont believe in. Show courtesy and respect each other and the heat
Hey Johnny, big fan. I started watching your videos a few month"s ago, and since then i've been a chili head. This is my tolerance journey from 2 month's to now, with my small town limitation's on pepper buying. 2 month's ago me and my brother were talking about spice, and we decided to buy a pack of habanero's. I tried them and got hooked, and melted. So for 3 week's I ate at least 1-2 a day. Then I found out that our safeway was better. So after 3 week's of habanero's, I made the switch to Carolina reaper's. I ate those for a week, then I upgraded to Trinidad scorpion's. A month in I had a strict scorpion diet. I ate a whole yellow scorpion and cooked with a chocolate scorion's. A month later 8\9\20 I pretty much only eat scorpion's, but I have increased my scoville intake. So in 2 month's I was able to go from 0 to an overall tolerance of 1.4-1.6 million scoville's. I am so in love with pepper's, I have a book that I use to review new one's. I have 5 way's of reviewing a pepper. 1 Look 2 Smell 3 Texture 4 Taste 5 Burn, where and how much.
Love this video!! Was eating a hot pepper last night and was wondering how can I increase my toleance to hot peppers. This video came right on time!! Thanks !!! Growing my own hot peppers, Bhut jolokia, Moruga, 7 pot, Habanerros. Just subscribed to your channel!!!
I know this video is a few years old now, but I really got a lot out of it here in 2023! I'm just getting into chilis and this video was a great guide on how to get started! Thanks so much!
I remember the first time I had a habanero on an empty stomach, It was probably the hottest most powerful one I've had(cause if you're gonna learn the hard way, might as well be the hardest version) ,but oddly enough the next biggest surprise was eating my garden jalapenos, my second year growing them they were almost all higher heat than anything else I was growing, I hadn't ate any from that crop yet & I was with my nieces and was trying to convince them that they really aren't too hot, then it hit me like a habanero on and empty stomach, and because they thought I was mostly acting one of them took a small bite and I enjoyed every second of it.😆
His advice on being a chili head is what I tell people when the wanna eat magic mushrooms. "Start small you can always eat more but once you take them in there is no going back"
@@JackJackKcajify if you did that on mushrooms you have some soul searching to do. You might be schizophrenic. Sounds like a psychotic break. You probably shouldn't do anything that alters your consciousness.
I grew ghost peppers, had a sliver similar to what you showed, and it put me laying on the couch in pain for 10 minutes, my stomach was hurting bad (This happened years ago). And Ive been eating habaneros all my life.
OH YEAH, YOU READ MY COMMENTS PROBABLY TOO. STARTING TO FEEL THE HIGH NOW AND THE BURN IS MUCH LOWER AND DIES QUICKER. PLUS I CAN ENJOY THE AMAZING FLAVORS NOW. ALSO I LOVE CREAM CORN LOL
Very true with the differences in heat of jalapenos. One of my colleagues grows them and hers were WAY hotter than anything I got in the store. It was definitely approaching habanero heat.
So glad I found this video, thank you Johnny! Started chasing a week ago, started with a poblano and a cubanelle and moved up to jalapeños the next day, eating about two a day. Yesterday, i had one jalapeño that was, just like you said, zero heat, a bell pepper. Then had another that was literally the hottest thing I've ever eaten. Seemed like way more than the 3k SHU to 8k SHU range I've seen. Good to know about how they can have a massive variance. Serranos soon! Then thai, then habaneros is the plan. Love you dude
I ate my first raw jalapeno today. I have a bad back from a car accident a decade ago. I have low heat tolerance as I am just starting out. Tears streamed down my face for a couple of minutes, not crying just eyes watered... Drank water to help with the heat... Same as you described with the milk. Heat was gone while water was in the mouth but came back after swallowing. 10 - 15 minutes I was uncomfortable. Back pain was gone after that for the rest of the day! Fuck pain pills!!! I'm gonna start chasing the heat! Gonna eat a jalapeno a day till that no longer works and then step up to a either a Hungarian Wax or a Serrano. Wish me luck on my journey! :)
As someone who has battled depression, anxiety, and loneliness for many years I have finally found a natural remedy: Chilis! I remember when I used to think Jalapenos were so hot and hated spicy food. Now, I can handle a habanero with relative ease. I am looking to be able to consume a whole ghost pepper next. I did manage to eat a full Carolina Reaper today, but it took me almost 40 minutes!🤣I
Awesome! So far all I have ripe in my garden are Jalapenos, Cayennes, and Sugar Rush Peache's. Waiting on the Scotch Bonnets and Yellow Morugas to get ripe. So excited to try them. Obviously I'm not going to eat the whole pod. But eating slivers and pushing yourself to eat more and putting it on food is so much fun. Pod season rules!
I think a good start of pepper would be Serrano. It’s very mild and tastes good and is easy on the stomach. Love your content my dude! Always love seeing the excitement of when you’re “chasing the heat” keep it up!!!
This guy seems crazy, but super well educated on this topic, and helpful! I love hot peppers/sauces, but not a “chili head” to Johnny’s standards. But I think I’ll start this “training” with a Thai or maybe Habanero.
Yes, I have to agree. Do not overlook the powder peppers. You can start sprinkles and end on tablespoons for building tolerance, I know the extra risk involved (inhaling) makes oneself 💯 aware of before attempting
Love this. I started my heat journey as a kid with Atomic fire ball candy. It started me down the path. Then I started eating jalapeños, then on to habaneros. Now I can handle reapers with no issues.
There are a lot similarities between psychonauts and chili heads apparently. Start small, don't prank anybody, you can always take more but once you take too much, you're committed.
I only recently started eating pods straight, I am used to just slicing them up for pizzas and gravys, but about an hour before this was uploaded I had my first Caribbean habanero. My grandfather grows a bunch of hot peppers, he recently brought me a bunch of the Caribbean habaneroes, along with quite a few butch ts. Oh boy am I glad I didn't start off with one of the butch ts.
I absolutely love your videos! I do spicy challenges from time to time, and decided to grow my own peppers (15 varieties of super hots) and have been trying fresh pods as they ripen, and I show my friends your videos and even gotten some to up their spice levels 😁. Thanks for your videos and hopefully I can work up to the tube of terror 😎 (done DeathNut 2.0 a few times)
Great video Johnny. I have definitely been interested in increasing my tolerance with different peppers. I've already eaten many jalapenos in the past. On my channel I ate a raw habanero pod and it was great. I could definitely handle a lot more heat in the mouth. What I did notice is shortly after consuming it I started getting some pretty gnarly hiccups. It did not really burn my stomach or anything like that. So I'm wondering when might the hiccups disappear? Thank you so much for all you do. You most definitely have inspired me.
@@ChaseTheHeat Right on! Thanks for letting me know Johnny!! I appreciate you answering me cause I know you get a LOT of comments from folks. Staying in tune with your subs is always an awesome standard to set.
Honestly I really can't keep up anymore. I get more comments a day than I used to get fews just a 6 months ago. I refuse to turn my social media over to someone else. I will just do the best I can
9:30 I 1000% agree with jalapeno I'm at habanero and ghost range but I once had a jalapeno and it felt like a damn habanero it's crazy how any true pepper can range from afar range
Very informative, thank you. I ate a dried reaper the other day on an empty stomach and lets just say i questioned my pepper-status and life choices for about two hours. After watching your video i realized i should have 1. Put something in my stomach first, and 2. Maybe just started with half first.
I've been used to Cajun food my whole life, so today I decided to grab a pound of gorgeous habanero pods... I won't say it was too much, but I will say it was a fun ride. The pods taste great though. Hardly floral, with a slight bell pepper-eque flavor. Not sweet, but not bitter. Thanks for the advice Johnny!
Great video Johnny, you're right there are great heath benefits from eating peppers. I love eating nice hot peppers. Most of mine are still green, they're just now starting to ripen, with the cayenne leading the way (the choc. habs are next, can't wait to eat one - I'll have to sit down with one on one of your upcoming videos and I'll chase the heat with ya) totally off-topic, but have you tried Puckerbutt's 'I dare you Stupit' reaper sauce? OMG!! Hands down the best hot sauce I've had in ages, and so simple, white vinegar and reaper mash ... imagine :) take care bud, always love your videos. J
Johnny thank you for all the information when I first started watching your videos I couldn't really eat anything hot at all. but from you teaching me how to Build my tolerance up I am eating whole Jalapenos and handling it with no problems thanks Johnny for all your help🌶
Johnny, you seem like a great guy. I encourage my kids to watch you. Its nice not having to worry about a channel, I always know there isn't going to be anything inappropriate on your channel. I'm really struggling with kidney stones right now, I've had 3 surgeries in the last 2 months, and your channel really does brighten up my day. Thanks brother.
Thanks for the tips. I've been chasing heat ever since I was in my early 20's, when I mistakenly ate a skinny black pepper in a General Tso chinese dish.... been hooked ever since.
Yeah, jalapeno is definitely a gateway pepper. That's what started me on the road to seeking more heat. I still like to use them, enough heat to notice it and good flavor.
Jalapeños have a WIDE heat range. For the HOTTER ones, choose a jalapeño that has brown wrinkles/veins on the surface. These are more mature and hotter peppers.
I found the same thing to be true with habaneros as far as the variance in heat. Especially the ones you find at the grocery store. Ive had some that were total duds with almost no heat, and at least one that was so hot i had to lay down for 30 minutes from the endorphin rush. Usually the home grown peppers are going to be hotter than what you'll find in the supermarket.
Hey brother! Hopefully you (Or anyone else) can answer this for me. For years and years I have always loved heat. Any Mexican or asian joint, it's "can I get that extra hot". I eat jalapenos and serranos almost every day in my food. Love it. Love the flavor of habaneros a lot. My older boys and I ate a habanero a few months back (I usually cook with them, so dont get all the heat) and while they were drinking milk and half freaking out, I ate a couple more. It was hot, of course but not too uncomfortable. So the other day while in the grocery store I saw some ghost peppers and reapers. Decided I would try the ghost peppers as I needed some for my salsa anyway. While I was getting ready to eat it I didn't know what to expect. As soon as I ate it I was more delighted with the flavor but the heat was strange. It didn't feel any hotter than the habaneros. So I ate a couple more and the same. So I figured if that was roughly 3-4 times as hot as a habanero and did't hurt then I'll try the reapers. Was a little worried but tried the first one anyway. Same exact thought. It was about the same heat level as the habanero/ghost pepper. So I have eaten a few since now and they are hot but it seems like there is a threshold that once it gets to a certain heat level it just kinda plateaus. Is that normal? Maybe these aren't hot variations of these peppers? Anyways, love what you do and dig watching you guys in the videos, thanks brother!
I know what you mean about the variance in the heat levels of jalapenos! I've had some also that are like eating a bell pepper, and others that are pretty darn hot! Great video!!! Thanks for all the wonderful information!! You Rock!! 🥰🌶️🔥
Johnny you rock bro&have inspired me to grow pepper. Ive grown everything from fish to plants to kids&dogs&cats. I love watchin things grow but your talk about how peppers can change pain in other places got me thinkin..i was hurt at work in '96&lost my hand&got my body broken&pain has been w me since¬ in a good way. Long story short you were right so now im growin peppers&wondered if youd give em a go if i sent you some. Have a great day! Thank you for doin what you do bro!!
Love the educational side of your videos...destroying false myths about peppers and capsaïcin. I'm also a pepper lover and grow my own stuff. This summer in my little and humble garden I'm growing "peach habaneros", "scotch bonnet" and "red savina habanero" as they are my 3 favourites and my wife, who is Mexican, loves to have peppers at hand to cook some of the best food ever. Keep up the good work...Cheers from south of Montreal, close to the border with Vermont. 🇨🇦🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
I was able to get my tolerance up by working at buffalo wild wings when I was younger. The wild sauce was my goto and I worked there when they had the ghost pepper sauce which was much hotter than the blazing sauce.I was able to eat a Carolina reaper although it put me out of commission for a bit . I'm a recovering heroin addict though and the endorphin rush is a great form of therapy imo
Trying to work my way up to the Carolina reaper i grew some this year and my first one is ready. I've been eating my cayennes to work my way up but my habeneros arent ready yet! Wasnt wanting to skip straight to the reaper.
On the aspect of peppers causing stomach problems and other health issues, as someone who has breathing issues, a few years ago , i unknowingly stopped eating peppers and hot sauce, i started having breathing problems. Took a couple years to realize it. When i started eating peppers again, breathing issues weren't as bad. Brought it up with my doctor and he said it makes sense because unless you go too hot, the pepper helps open your airway by making you breathe harder. He told me they are finding more positives to eating spicy foods than negatives
@@ChaseTheHeat never affected my breathing either, giving them up sure did. Now since I have started eating them again, i breathe a whole lot better. My neighbor has ghost peppers growing and i have habs growing i may end up having to get a couple of ghost peppers from him lol
I want to try to build my tolerance with peppers and become a chili head.. and maybe grew some pods for a hubby .. Iam from waaay down south Louisiana and we have good seasonings that’s hot but to me some times it’s just gets to salty at times ... and I notice when eating a jalapeño and ghost pepper chips it’s a different burn then just regular Cajun seasoning ...
May’val suggested a list of descriptive words as part of a chili wiki. We definitely need to up our game in this department. 99% of pepper reviews I’ve watched describe peppers as having one of three flavors: citrus, fruity, floral...that’s it. Any attempt to go beyond these three would be appreciated. I’ll try to do my part too.
It's honestly hard for me to find fresh hot peppers outside of Jalapeno, Anaheim, Serrano, and Habanero. I live in Michigan though so it's tough finding other peppers.
You'll build a tolerance everywhere slowly. You can mix the peppers in with food to make it easier on the stomach & the last part. I eat grape leaves....ie.. A Mediterranean dish of thumb sized morsels of spiced rice & tomatoes (not hot spices) wrapped in grapes leaves drizzled in oil & I believe they're cooked in the oven....not sure... I get them from a restaurant in town called Ali Baba's. Takes car if the stomach & the final delivery.....for me anyways
Johnny, you never mentioned the 3rd area to build tolerance from.... unless I missed something. Killer video by the way, I've been gone from the bus for almost a year, been busy recording music, but I'm back!
I just started being a chili head myself here recently. I've always liked Jalapenos and Habaneros. Tried the shut up juice challenge at cabot AR and it for some reason set the stage to my tolerance. With my amature build, the heat of that extract and your vids as well as LA Beast--I ordered some chocolate bhutlas and Carolina Reapers and have ate a few of each. It's my new side hobby. When playing a game or watching a movie it really settles you in. I eat a few bi weekly now. Such a simple way to enjoy life. Love the vids. Cheers.
So true on the Jalapeño range of heat. I’m now eating Habanero’s with each dinner and sometimes lunch. I’m also having purées of Scorpion Peppers. Still working up to Reaper purée. I’m getting there.
Just one serious question. If theres a little bug hole in my pepper and possibly a little bug living inside, can i still cut it and wash the bug out and.still eat it? Also, the two peppers on my plant that does have little holes suddenly ripened. All the others are green, but its like the ones with the bug holes ripened over night. I wish I could post pics of my plants. Im very proud.
I'm kind of curious on aged sauces (like tobasco) and what the process does not only to the heat but the flavor........if you get to it, probably a rarer question.
Johnny, Can I ask you a few questions? Do you find hot peppers help one with the pains that come from living longer in life? I am curious if perhaps one's use of hotter peppers may help arthritis? Or perhaps the immune system? Things like that. Thanks for any time on this.
Heres how it really works, straight from clinical trials and physician analysis. Capsaicin does in fact DECREASE gastric acidity, and is often used topically for pain management. You have capsaicin sensitive neurons in your stomach. When stimulated by excess amounts of capsaicin, those neurons begin to retract hence the increased tolerance to chili’s. Heres the zinger, those capsaicin sensitive neurons also play a part of repairing damage to the stomach lining and mucosal layer, aka those capsaicin sensitive neurons help heal gastric ulcers caused primarily by NSAID use and helicobacter pilori bacteria. Its not that chili’s cause ulcers, because they don’t. What they do is inhibit your body’s ability to heal damage done to your digestive tract.
I have found a huge difference in jalapeno heat. I've had some with almost no heat and some that have set me on fire. I definitely agree with you on that👍 I enjoy Mexican dishes and I once ate a chili relleno meal at a certain restaurant years ago that had some bizarre massive heat to it and poblanos are not that hot. Ate a scotch bonnet once and that did me in Lol. Thanks for all your knowledge and all you do sir👍👊😎
Go with a hot banana or Hungarian hot wax. I get those mixed up and not even sure they are different. But after that, go for a jalapeno. Mindful that jalapeno can surprise you. In my experience jalapeno heat can vary widely. I ate a raw jalapeno the other day that barely had any more heat than a sweet banana. And I've had jalapeno's that left me feeling regretful I'd chomped on it. But I'm also like some folks in the matter of taste. Some raw peppers don't particularly taste 'good' as they do cooked or pickled or whatever. I'd say experiment cooking with various peppers of varying heat levels if eating raw pods doesn't float your boat.
Awesome video Johnny as always , i'm noticing exactly this season a better tolerance with a full pod and they taste better i started last season with just a finger nail piece of pepper a good example is the CR i did find the taste not as bitter as last season and at the moment also im loving the taste of 7 pot douglah choco my favorite chocolate pod , great advices for people like me rookie chilli heads
Love the restaurant business, they don't drug test, even at my new job they told me when I started to just never come to work high. This is how it should be everywhere; unless you don't come to work high. You should be good, but if you do just make sure it doesn't mess with your work flow
"Once you eat too much you're along for the ride" reminds me of time I made a pan of chronic brownies and ate two. Bad decision.
Dude, me too! It was 20 years ago, but I still remember how that felt! lol

Hahah remember eating 3 bags of 900 mg thc. Of course my tolerance is so high I felt nothing wish I could get high like y’all
when the two tabs turn out to be 150s instead of 100s

Serranos are the shit !
I grew Serranos for the first time this year and they are amazing in salsa!!
Yes! I’ve had some Serrano’s that had a nice slap to them. Some hit, some don’t. Habaneros are the same way. Hit or miss.

Professor Scoville! Awesome seminar. A group pod sampling session is a very cool idea! Definitely in for that.
Just putting it out there.
There should be a pepper wiki.

It should have the name of the plant, average pod size, average plant height, name of the original grower, the generation the grower started distribution and plant heritage.
More?
Then just have 1000+ sommelier tasting words in a tag list.
Eg;
Carolina Reaper: slightly sweet, cherry, licorice, star anise, aromatic, botanical.
Learn them

Just joined the other day and love all the videos. Not a chili head yet, so I came along at the right time it seems. I've always liked spicier food than all friends and family, and as of late I have just had a crazy hankering for more hot stuff, as of right now just tons of hot sauces and spicy novelty foods. got a tons of sauces, but its time to train and move up to peppers. Thanks for the vid!
Love your videos! Always loved eating hot peppers/sauce. My wife thinks its hilarious watching me torture myself, but its definitely a rush for me!
I have watched random videos here and there from you over the years. This is a wonderful video to showcase how to enjoy this niche. Honest and informative to those who want to try without turning them off this interest. Bravo. Keep these tips up. 👍🏻✌🏻
Wow, thank you!
Hybrids are fun surprises. My fresnos appear to have crossed with my scorpions.
@@heathenraider5259 That's awesome to hear. I am trying to get out there. It's happening!
@@MichaelClark-uw7ex Why not have 1 room where you throw a few different types together if You are just going to eat them , You might find a Franken pod like You did that is fantastic. I have a room going doing just that for this Year.
Can’t take it myself but love the idea of it , cheers Jonny 👍🏻👍🏻 good info
Thank you Johnny.... I love growing Chilis and I love the zing .... yet I am a total wimp when it comes to serious heat. Your advice encourages me to press forward. Salute from New Zealand.
Been watching all your vids. Enjoy them. Nice video explaining the chilli journey. Earlier today bought a ghost chilli plant and some red habanero seeds which I have planted already.
I like this kind of guidance. I've eaten a few pods in my life, but never any super hots. I appreciate the notes on building tolerance.
" Once you eat to much your strapped in for the ride" I like that line haha
I know this video is a few years old now, but I really got a lot out of it here in 2023! I'm just getting into chilis and this video was a great guide on how to get started! Thanks so much!
Thank you Snarky-Jay! Here is another vid I made for new chili heads. I hope it is helpful.
th-cam.com/video/6n75OKyJGks/w-d-xo.html
I remember the first time I had a habanero on an empty stomach,
It was probably the hottest most powerful one I've had(cause if you're gonna learn the hard way, might as well be the hardest version)
,but oddly enough the next biggest surprise was eating my garden jalapenos, my second year growing them they were almost all higher heat than anything else I was growing,
I hadn't ate any from that crop yet & I was with my nieces and was trying to convince them that they really aren't too hot,
then it hit me like a habanero on and empty stomach, and because they thought I was mostly acting one of them took a small bite and I enjoyed every second of it.😆
Those cramps must have been wild.
Thanks Johnny for doing this! I've added this video to my playlist here on TH-cam.
His advice on being a chili head is what I tell people when the wanna eat magic mushrooms. "Start small you can always eat more but once you take them in there is no going back"
😂
shrooms are dangerous dont overdo it. i trashed my entire house and literaly squirted dish shoap all over the walls and smashed the TVs. not a joke.
@@JackJackKcajify if you did that on mushrooms you have some soul searching to do. You might be schizophrenic. Sounds like a psychotic break. You probably shouldn't do anything that alters your consciousness.
This man is eating a pepper and talking to us you the man word. 😂😂😂
POD SEASON RULES
You are a great teacher and ambassador for the pepper world ...I feel comfortable and more educated on my journey with your guidance thank you Johnny
Such a great intro to chili peppers. I love how this is encouraging and not condescending/pretentious; keep on making great videos dude!
Thanks so much!
I’ve been watching your videos for two weeks now, and yesterday I started my chili head journey. Thanks for posting
That is awesome!
Yes, I have to agree. Do not overlook the powder peppers. You can start sprinkles and end on tablespoons for building tolerance, I know the extra risk involved (inhaling) makes oneself 💯 aware of before attempting
Thanks for the video man, I love your stuff!
Crushed, dried reapers mixed in with my food helped me build a tolerance very quickly
The hiccups likely won't disappear. Don't let it bother you. SOme of the great pods eaters on the planet get hiccups. No shame
I will just do the best I can
@@ChaseTheHeat You do an awesome job Johnny!!!
Thanks!
9:30 I 1000% agree with jalapeno I'm at habanero and ghost range but I once had a jalapeno and it felt like a damn habanero it's crazy how any true pepper can range from afar range
I love the idea of a group pepper review. My favorite pepper is the Butch T. I love the flavor profile and it’s not too hot!
Very informative, thank you. I ate a dried reaper the other day on an empty stomach and lets just say i questioned my pepper-status and life choices for about two hours. After watching your video i realized i should have 1. Put something in my stomach first, and 2. Maybe just started with half first.
I literally JUST watched your tolerance building video, I wake up and see you posted this, PERFECT, thanks Johnny
Thanks for the advice Johnny!
first time caller long time listener. been wanting to build mine and glad I found this video.thanks for the info
I would love to do a group pepper munch!! 🌶 what a day that would be! Great educational video, let's make chili heads!
Great video Johnny, you're right there are great heath benefits from eating peppers. I love eating nice hot peppers. Most of mine are still green, they're just now starting to ripen, with the cayenne leading the way (the choc. habs are next, can't wait to eat one - I'll have to sit down with one on one of your upcoming videos and I'll chase the heat with ya)
totally off-topic, but have you tried Puckerbutt's 'I dare you Stupit' reaper sauce? OMG!! Hands down the best hot sauce I've had in ages, and so simple, white vinegar and reaper mash ... imagine :)
take care bud, always love your videos.

I lived in Kingsport Tennessee for about 10 years, that's where one of my granddaughters was born, holston valley
Johnny thank you for all the information when I first started watching your videos I couldn't really eat anything hot at all. but from you teaching me how to Build my tolerance up I am eating whole Jalapenos and handling it with no problems thanks Johnny for all your help🌶
Glad to help
If you can handle penos with no problems, its time to kick it up a notch like serrano or cayenne.
I appreciate that! Hang in there
Thanks for the tips.
Yeah i wanna be a chilli head. I started off with hot sauces and moving to the fresh peppers. Thank you for sharing your experience
I know what you mean about the variance in the heat levels of jalapenos!
I've had some also that are like eating a bell pepper, and others that are pretty darn hot!
Great video!!!
Thanks for all the wonderful information!!
You Rock!! 🥰🌶️🔥
Just want you to know that you're a great inspiration to me, getting me into the world of heat and it really shows how much you love peppers!
You've inspired a whole schlew of people. I see dozens of "Jr Scovilles" out there. You should be flattered.

Thanks for watching!
Ed Currie got off high speed salt by eating hot stuff. The reaper is his pepper.
I have had asthma since childhood. I have eaten the hottest stuff on ear and never had it affect my brreathing, .
@@ChaseTheHeat never affected my breathing either, giving them up sure did. Now since I have started eating them again, i breathe a whole lot better. My neighbor has ghost peppers growing and i have habs growing i may end up having to get a couple of ghost peppers from him lol
Love you man, you're a positive force and we all share your love of peppers.
I don't mind the heat in my mouth, it's when it hits my stomach that worries me the most.
I never had a problem with it hitting my stomach. It was the next day i could never get past.
Attention Classroom !!
Thanks for clarifying about the ulcer .. I was thinking about that last night as my gut twisted up from tinctures
Great vid for the beginners...a year or so in, this would have been great advice. Ate a delicious scorpion yesterday. Mmmmm.
You don't know true heat until you accidentally use heinz spicy ketchup on your hamburger thinking it was regular ketchup ):
What a great video man , so informative for all your fans and beginning chili heads, gotta love it
I appreciate it!
I love this episode thank you 🙏! I am quite far yet with my tolerance but it’s valuable advice for everyone 🔥
Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Had I only known about this video! I've done some things right. . . I've done some things wrong, LOL! Thanks, Johnny! Much love, brother!
Very informative and great tips. Thanks Johnny
