Most clear and well paced 'How to play'-video of the witcher base game at this moment. Probably can't get any better! Thanks! Hope GoOnBoard picks up this one, it deserves to be in the spot light! While launching later than first announced, was eagerly waiting for this video, but was worth the wait and the delay on your part. For making the game rules this simple to understand in a video requires good planning of edits and presentation. I'm hoping for sequal videos covering the various expansions, keep up the great work!

Finally a real walk-through on how to play!
I loved the explanation! My only comment is basically that you explain what you’re playing for first and then the set-up. While I get why you chose this, especially with the amount of cards/coins/objectives etc. It felt a bit overwhelming if you don’t even know what you’re playing for.
Got my copy today. My brain needs some visual reference before I start reading the rules 🤷♂️. So thank you very much for this very well done tutorial. You save me some headache. And I’m sending it to all my friends who want to play, so they have a reference for the rule before we start!

Very thorough explanation. Nicely done. My only question is for phase 3. The rulebook says that you discard cards first in order to buy cards. After that you draw 3 cards, provided no modifiers to that are applied.

Can someone explain what the sun/money token next to the trophy track means? I cannot seem to find it anywhere including this excellent overview of the game. Does it mean you get one gold during a turn at the start, 2 when you’ve got your first trophy and so on?

Thanks for this how-to-play video -- very well done! I was going to wait to play, but now I'll give it a try! I play games solo only, so I'd also appreciate an additional one for that solo expansion. I think I'll play with multiple characters once, though, so that I can get a feel for the game that way first. Thanks again!
Welcome glad you like it. I do have a solo play though on the channel but it’s with the legendary hunt expansion. It does cover some of the solo rules.

Good How to only clarification is to show the combo effect where you return the card to your hand, it wasn't really clear which card returns the primary card or the extended card. All in all though very detailed and good job
From what i keep seeing, it would be the card "cover" as the symbol is on THAT card and not on the extended card. It is very confusing i take it, but allowing you to play say... a 4 damage card, return that to your hand and then replay it next turn... that is too strong. But that card is a small defense up of 1, while enabling stronger combos, and then simply coming back in your hand to do just the same as long as you can play an extansion (in this case yellow or pink). Still strong, but not game breaking as the other example ;)

How many times you can meditate and gain trophy(move on the tracker) during whole game?
This video was so helpful, we played it the other day and we got a bit confused about what to do at the end of the fights, it says that we’re supposed to shuffle all our action cards from our hand, lifepool and discard pile to form a new action deck but then we ended up running out of action cards as we had them all in our action deck. Is there a limit that you can have in your action deck?
If the fight is over yes you will reshuffle everything and draw a new hand of cards depending if you won the fight or lost may determine how many cards you draw. What do you mean you ran out of action cards? The cards you can buy from? There is no limited on action cards in your deck but keep in buy you can only buy 1 card during phase 3
Regarding approximately @12:07 if you're level 1 and you level up your alchemy to level 2 during phase 1, then in phase 2 you explore and the reward from that quest is level up your alchemy - can you level it to 3 since the rulebook states that cards overule the rulebook? Or do you simply not level it up?
Yes
Yes you level it up to 3. The quest card overrules the rulebook. (Aka the golden rule). Only times these effects would not work is when you would be level 1 (cannot go lower) or level 5 (cannot be lowered) which is its own rule, thus that overrides the effect (perk of being level 5). The permanent tyles on your board are the ones that are sideways, the witcher levels and the max level for attributes.

Hi, thanks for the awesome tutorial video! You've covered details here that aren't immediately clear from the rules and described sometimes unnecessarily complicated, which will help a lot to speed up the understanding of the game. I have a question about tracking. If multiple witchers are tracking the same monster will they all lose tracking after killing it? And does this also apply to a tracking token not yet obtained (I have the tracking quest, I just haven't reached the location where I will get it yet - I have placed the golden token at the location where I am supposed to get the tracking) should I also lose this tracking token? Thanks a lot
Thanks for your kind words. Yes if multiple players have the same terrain, tracking token, and a monster has been defeated, matching that terrain then all players must discard that token.
How ever if you are still tracking and not have obtain the token yet by reaching that location then you don’t discard it.

Actually wrong... ALL trail tokens of the same type as the monster are discarded by all players EXCEPT tokens located on quest cards.
@@JustAGeekyDadflavour-wise, it also makes no sense to not discard... you are picking up the trail for a monster, but it flees or dies. How can you still be tracking it? It is simply gone :(
@@BioStrife right sorry my bad. Just doubled check yes all trail tokens should be discard even ones players are on quest for. Just not on cards.

I played once do far, good game.
However some rules arent clear for me.
Im vengerberg, do we takie card+1 cost but with mod, or we can just take any card that cost+1 no mater where it is on the track?
Three was a exploration quest that as a result we were surprised by a monster WHO defeted US and card said that we have to Burn one card and take another card from the track that cost 0. Do we discard this card from a track, or from our deck? It doesnt say. We discarded card from a hand, and replaced it with new card 0 from track.
So at vengerberg that symbols means to trash a card from your had and gain a card from the buying track either of equal cost value or plus 1. Meaning if you trash a 0 cost card you can gain 1 cost card from the buying track. You also ignore the buying modifiers . To trash means you are removing that card from the game. Not to be confused with discarding. As for the explore card I am not I have come across that card however if a card has a fire symbol burning a card it means to trash a card it is normally from your hand or deck. I would have to see the card. Also at vizima that loaction is trash any two cards on the buying track and gain a gold if you don’t have any gold. Hope that helps
Any tips on how to keep the game from dragging? I LOVE this game, but any time we play with 3 or more players the turns can start to take a long time
Do you have the wild hunt? That one is cooperative and you play at the same time.
What do I do if I get to phase 3 (card drawing) and I've somehow got more than 3 cards in my hand? Do I just discard them until I'm down to 3, without getting anything in return?
No there are some bonuses that allow you to draw extra cars during phase 3, do you remember why you had more then 3 cards? Also if you had more then 3 you wouldn’t draw any cards. And go right into buying cards
@JustAGeekyDad Ah ok, seems I didn't get the difference between drawing cards and buying cards. As for why I had more, I was trying to do a solo run, drew 5 cards in my hand as per rules, and only discarded 1 to move elsewhere and explore. So I had 4 cards when I moved to phase 3
@@l33tr52read the phase 3 step slowly again, it is quite well explained by itself.
You may NOT have more than 3 cards before buying unless a rule says "draw x more or less cards during phase 3". So really... keeping cards in your hand is extremely rarely ever good unless you really wanna keep that card to plan a future move.
To summarize... you gotta have a maximum of 3 cards (+effect) before you get to buy a card to now have a maximum of 4 cards (+effects) to start the next turn (or defend vs a witcher) but can never have more than 7 cards in hand.
A lot of text for a tiny rule but with major repercussions :p
Game seems a little bit on the difficult side, but I think I got most of the rules from here.
How does each level of the school of the cat special ability works? That one’s confusing and rulebook doesn’t do a good job of clarifying
Overall... think of it as you will mever start wjth an empty hand when fighting.
For example... level 1. You look at the top card of your deck and draw it. Next levels is step 1: look at x amount of cards from top of your deck and replace them in the order you want, then choose x card.
At level 5, you pretty much pick up your first 3 cards from your deck.
Super strong technique!

I need some help understanding please:
Are all trophies I earned active at all times or is only the last trophy active?
And what happens when a card says I lose 3 shield but I only have 1, outside of a fight?
The trophies that you earn are active all the time but some of them can only be used once per fight.
No you're not out of the fight. You only lose the fight when you run out of cards in your hand and deck. You lower the shield level as much as possible.
@@JustAGeekyDad thank you very much, I was really confused as there is only a cutout for one trophy at a time under the playertableau. But I couldnt find anything about replacing it.
And my second question was regarding quest cards. Like I had a choice and it said something like "Lose 3 shields and gain one Level of alchemy" but I only had one shield at that time. Would I Lose that shield and two hand cards? Or would I just lower the shield to 0 and still get a level?
I think there is a mistake with fighting the same Witcher again. It’s possible but you won’t gain another trophy from the same school.
Some things I noticed you said but i think are incorrect. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong ;)
1) Why did you start the fight against the monster? You had no trail token as far as I could see.
2) When wagering, if you win, you gain the equal amount of gold as the winning witcher.
3) You didn't mention that a player doesn't suffer fatique when aquiring a 4th trophy via meditating.
4) You didn't mention that a attribute on lv5 can never be lowered.
I have a question on my own:
1) Where do you get the gold from wehn fighting a witcher? The witcher or the common pool?
2) I am kinda confused abut the additional stack of lv1 monsters during a 5 player setup. What kind of stack is this?
1) I did have a trail token on my player board so I could start the fight first. It’s a forest
Token. And if I didn’t then yes the monster would attacked first.
2)No when it comes to betting or wagering. You can only win the 1 extra gold from the bank if you bet on the correct Witcher. You only bet 1 so you can only win 1. The gold the player wins is for Witchers who are in the fight and it is based where they are on the trophy track.
3) yes I didn’t make that clear but I did mention when moving up on the trophy track you do suffer fatigue.
4)I thought I did but maybe I didn’t. I might of mention it more in my play though video.. but yes once level 5 it can’t be lowered.
Answering questions.
1) from the common pool. 2) so normally you return the level one monsters back to the game box after you spawn the first three but if you’re playing at4 or 5 player game, you will keep 1 or 2 level monsters out and they will spawn first after defeating the level 1 monster. Hope that makes sense. It’s so that every player has an equal chance to fight a level one monster but there can only ever be three monsters on the board.
