Monster trails definitely fixes the monster issues you had. I won't play without it! I completely agree about the rules, though. It can be pretty frustrating at times, but not a deal breaker.
Your positives and negatives basically were exactly what our game group experienced. One thing I can say is Monster trail improved theme a lot but it makes it even longer, but for two I would not play without it
I think you totally nailed your cinematography. The little frame changes and quick scene changes combat my you tube addles add brain and keep me invested. I cant watch a review video where someone is droning at the camera.
Hi, just mention that middle earth quest uses the same deck building/life stile mechanics. It's an fantastic and also very very very thematic game that I recoment to try anyone who likes tolkien's world. The best board game of lord of the rings in my opinion. Regards!
Thx for the video! The expansions are highly recommended, if you do like the base game. They add lots of new events and story killing any repetition. There are new monsters and monster abilities, you can play as mages and even as Ciri!
Ciri is a Kickstarter exclusive and only available with the stretch goals. So is the Monster Trail, the Wild Hunt and the Adventure Pack. The stretch goals almost double the content. The retail version is a massively stripped down version. It is almost criminal for the price asked.

I was a Kickstarter backer and would love for people to get the "full version", simply because there is so much much more there. I find it wrong to sell it at that price in retail with half the content. You also lose out if you buy the regular expansions because the strech goals also boost them massively. The strech goals components will hit retail supposedly at the end of 2024, which is a very far in the future and I am unconvinced it will really happen.
Gonna echo the need for expansions. Monster trail is a must for monster variety. The others are not needed but add a decent amount of variety to the game (mages are fun, skellige is a fun but unnecessary add on). The legendary hunt monsters also make the game feel more epic as you got a boss to work towards. Although this may take it from a family+ game to a family ++ or mid weight game. Imo worth the upgrade in complexion/fiddlyness for more advanced gamers
I think the Monster pack should've been put into the game period. They made it a free addon for the KS, but that's not good enough, because it's technically not part of the game. They should've stuck it in the game.
I'm interested, but I can't justify the high prices. Three plays until you feel the need for an expansion is poor value, especially for a game that is $80-$100 CDN. The expansions are also $60-$70 CDN each, it's absurd.
With Monster Trail it becomes pretty interesting. I have the Kickstarter Adventure pack too which adds a ton of exploration cards. So replayability becomes much better. My main issue with it is the game is really long and big for what it is. Makes it harder to bring out.
The core game is unfortunately a demo version of Witcher, you have to play with both Monster Trail and Legendary Hunt expansions to feel as a complete product. It's extremely sad, but true.

Monster Trail expansion is essential and addresses the main aspects to turn this more into a gamers game. It isn't available currently in retail, but it is coming soon. There's an official iconography sheet to print out now
are you sure the Monster's Trail box will come to retail? I have seen it in other rewards and it seems essential to make the game worthwhile for replayability.

Thanks for sharing. The rulebook is lacking. A legend and glossary help any rulebook. Also, I think the poker is extremely lacking, so we house rule it. The base game can be a bit simple, but Monster Trail improves the game a lot. Would be nice to have a bit more monster variety. I find the Witcher: Old World to be dripping with theme. Making your Witcher stronger via your skills and cards. The stories, the minis, the monsters, the fighting. They all fit well into the Witcher World.

Love this game yet feel that this is one of those cases where you are not playing the game at its potential if you don't have several expansions (some of which are not available at retail yet as I understand it). Monster Trail for moster personality and Adventure Pack for event variability. The Mages and the Legendary Hunt add great new ways to play. The Wild Hunt and Skellige are ones you can live without but those first four... man it is a different game without them and that makes for an expensive entry point.
Are Monster Trail and Adventure Pack included in the Deluxe version of the game? I only see the Deluxe version and 3 main expansions available online (Legendary Hunt, Skellige and Mages).
I am one of those diehard Witcher fans. Read books & have over 1k hours (and even hold a world record) in Witcher 3. HOWEVER - do you think it‘s worth it as SOLO game exclusive? From what I‘ve gathered maybe not?
It is just okey, but after few times it will get stale quickly, but community is huge behind this game, BGG is full of great variants of solo game that actually have autonomas
If u are a diehard fan i can recommend the game just for the look and feel of it. Ok, it is not a Mage Knight, but it is fun playing solo. Go on board really did a good job to stay true to the source (books and game). And no, it is not just capitalising on the ip.
I love it solo and I’ve only played the base game so far, even when I have everything else except the Mages expansion. I also have the playmat and the metal coins, they are not needed, but add a lot to the feel of the game. I also painted all of my miniatures the last couple of weeks. Again, not needed, but fun! If you can, I strongly advise to get a deluxe version with the Kickstarter box with all the miniature monsters. Deluxe, because the miniature monsters are AWESOME and especially since the expansions DO NOT have monster tokens, only miniatures. So if you want to get them later on and you only have the standard version of the base game, that’s a thing to consider. The Kickstarter extra box adds Monster Trail, Adventure pack and Wild Hunt which adds a lot to the game (more diversity, more characters, more monsters, a lot more quests and adventures and a co-op mode). These will be available in 2024 for retail, exceptional Ciri and the Lost Mount, but that might be a long wait. Wild Hunt seems great fun solo too, as does Legendary Hunt. Both change the core of the gameplay again for added diversity. So if you’re a Witcher fan, get this game! It even has me replaying Witcher 3 again.
It really depends how complex and deep you want a game to be. It's satisfying to build your deck for great combos and to try out the different Witcher Schools. I would say that the mini expansion that comes with the KS adding more exploration and quests is needed to avoid seeing cards too often.

Your first phrase is "the game is not for me," but your second phrase seems to suggest that the game "just" exists to make money and has no merit objectively.
