    Old video but IS YOUR MATH CORRECT? From your description on the various rear axles you have:
    Rear Axle Centerline to Frame: 7.25"
    OR
    - Dana 35 (2.5" Tube) Stock Height: 6.00"
    - Dana 44 (2.75" Tube) Stock Height: 6.125"
    - Chrysler 8.25 (3.00" Tube) Stock Height: 6.25"
    The 6.00 inches for the Dana 35 appears to be correct but
    -for Dana44 shouldn't it be 7.25 -(2.75/2) = 5.875 stock distance to frame rail
    -for Chrysler8.25 shouldn't it be 7.25-(3.00/2) = 5.75 stock distance to frame rail
    To me it makes more sense since the axle centerlines are the same the larger diameter axle tube will be closer to the frame rail.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spring perch is on the top of the axle which also affects how much farther the wheel is from the body.
      If you went from a dana 35 to an 8.25, you'd get an extra 1/4" of lift just from the different tube radius.

My Q is - trying to find a 3" lift for my 2000 xj 75% in town and Hwy / 25% off road Hunting and exploring don't rock crawl unless I must I pull a Trailer 5k to 6k miles a year. Budget is 1k for lift kit and I have the install covered. Can you recommend or point me to top 3 lifts for my usage.I'm not holding you accountable for results, I just need advice as I am asking several sources. 2 sources mentioned Zone Brand?Thanks for your time,Brian

    Nice to see nothing wrong with the heap ooow no jeep ha ha ;-D sorry :-(.
    Silly mood unloaded........
    Im not sure what i think about the measurements, the tyres add height too, i thought getting the body/axels away from big rocks was the idea, so massive tyres to lift the axels would be my way.
    But im a plonker and know nothing about your hobby, ill just stand in the corner with a traffic cone on my head and "D" scratched into the cone lol :-D

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, as stated there are a few measurements one can obtain. Measuring from the bottom of the differential to the ground will give you ground clearance, but that is completely related to tire size. Suspension Lift is the big ticket item today, which measures how far the axle is from the body. Mo Lift = Mo Tires.

    Hey nick quick question i want to lift my xj and i was wondering if i get just the 3 in springs anx the 2 in shackles will it still give my jeep a lift in the front .?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bobby Barraza If the spring you are putting in say it will give a 3" lift, then it should give you atleast 3" more height in the front, maybe more if the old springs sag. The rear will probably sit an inch lower and may look a little goofy.

  • @tylermascornick1877
    @tylermascornick1877 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you know if i can run a 3 inch rough country lift and a 3 inch budget boost together? would i need adjustable lower control arms? and did you do anything to your paint?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you? Yes. Should you? Hell no. 3" is way too tall for a budget boost, I wouldn't go over 2." If you're getting a whole kit, do yourself a favor and get a proper one that advertises the lift hight you would like. The reason they get more expensive as you go taller is because they come with the extra parts you need to do it right.
      As for control arms, you generally don't need adjustable lowers. A kit that comes with proper lowers will be the right length for a lift. Adjustable uppers are nice to fine tune your pinion angle or caster though.
      As for paint, I did clean up some rust spots and rattle can some factory matched paint over it.

  • @x5Deadmeat5x

    The rear method will never work what if you have a full gas tank in the Rear it sag lil more

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference between a bone dry tank and a full tank is about 130lbs. This could cause a height difference of up to a 1/2" (That's how much lower mine sat when I stood on the back) but to say it will never work as a method of measurement is silly. This is the MOST accurate way to measure and compare between vehicles as it only measures the height of the lift and nothing else. These measurements are also supposed to measure the lift height at ride weight so if you regularly carry around 500lbs of gear then you should check with the weight in so you know what you actually have on the road or trail. But good catch nonetheless.

      Nope, and that's the beautiful thing about this method, it removes a lot of the variables out so that all you get is true suspension lift height and that's it. A total ground clearance measurement to the ground would change with tire size though.

    Edit) Actually, I am having a hard time figuring out why the measurement would be different with a D44. My original axle was a D-35 so the top of the axle (bottom of leaf springs) should be the same no matter what axle.
    I'm prolly wrong, so can you please explain my error?
    Thanks. Nice video. Very Useful.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is being taking into account is the centerline of the axle. A larger Diameter tube gives you more lift than a smaller one so that is accounted for in the measurement. The Dana 35 has a Tube Diameter of 2.5." We want the radius which is half so that's 1.25." By adding that to the stock height of 6," we get 7.25" which is the hight from the center of the wheel to the frame.
      A Dana 44 Tube Diameter is 2.75," only a 1/4" taller. Cut it in half and you have an 1/8" more lift. So add an 1/8" to your measurement if you want to compare to a D35 or add 1-3/8" to compare from center of axle to frame.
