Raag Puriya Kalyan is a prominent Raag of Hindustani Classical Music. It brings a sublime mood of devotion and peace. Puriya Kalyan is a fine blend of Raag Yaman in Uttarang and Raag Puriya or Raag Puriya Dhanashree in Poorvang. Puriya is mildly haunting while Kalyan brings contrasting shades of resplendence. Raag Puriya is a peaceful, evening raag that has been studied and performed for over 300-400 years.
About the performance:
A typical Dhrupad style of rendition begins with an exquisite Alap which is a slow exploration of Raag. The Aalap is followed by Jod and Jhala where the tempo gradually increases. The Pakhawaj enters during the Bandish (Composition) set in Choutal (14 beats cycle)
