Totally agree I downloaded it on ps3 on wens day and I'm totally hooked, the only time I've had to play is about 3 hours wens day and 7-8 today and I just started the "dark matter phase" and I love he game. It probably helps that I love the show to but it's a really fun game.
Why do '' aliens '' always have to look almost identical to humans? O.o Just so that we can '' identify '' and find them attractive? People fucking seriously can't identify or sympathize with characters if they don't look like us? District 9 is a good example of a show with completely alien characters that I could sympathize with.
Usually it's budget. Star Trek made almost all aliens (except their little CG friends like 8472 and the Changelings) people in prosthetic makeup or rubber foreheads. They did it well, but again, not much difference except "oh yea, he's a Flaborbian because he has two bumps on his nose. And that's guy's a Tadingian because he has three." However, when a show has the money and the design team for it, they can make some really cool looking aliens like they did in Farscape. I can sympathize with Pilot easily, and he's a four-armed lobster who is a animatronic puppet off-screen.
Aidan Carter True. I still think that my point about sympathy and identifying with the characters remains. But you're definetly right about the budget part too. Even so, I wish that they would get a bit more imaginary with the whole rubber part. I mean, there has to be a hundred different things that you can do with that rubber. And if you throw in just a LITTLE bit of CG, there's even more that you can do. I mean even with the Klingon. Just give them some eye lenses that look more alien and perhaps some rubber around the mouth to '' reshape it ( kinda like they did with the forehead ), or the nose. That could add a lot. It's mainly the features of the face, eyes, nose and mouth that makes them yell '' LOOK AT ME! I AM A HUMAN WITH RUBBER ON MAH FACE! ''. So that should really be the number 1 priority.
Aidan Carter That's why I love the Aliens in the Star Wars movies so much. They actually look Alien. And I am not talking about the prequel CGI ones, but the old movies. Even the Twi lek guy in Jabbas palace looks completely Alien ( only him tho, the other twi leks look very humanoid. But they still look like an actual alien still ). But they have VERY few Alien species that actually look '' human ''. There are definetly a few, but most of them are not even close. Consider the first star wars movies budget, and then look at all of those aliens in the bar. That's a pretty damn amazing feat. It really makes you feel as if it's another Galaxy entirely.
Well, the scientific explanation is because that's what they'd realistically look like. Scientifically speaking, it stands to reason that if there is intelligent life on another planet that's as smart as/smarter then us, then they must have around the same viable living conditions on the planet, and therefore the evolution of life on their planet would have gone roughly the same as the one we went through from the early microscopic life-forms to modern humans, with a few alterations here and there. So yes, aliens would look human. The unrealistic interpretation would be those that depict aliens as being huge, random, weird life forms that look nothing like humans. Of course, those interpretations are more creative and fun, so this is something where realism should just be put to one side, but yeah. That's the reason.
I do quite enjoy a blast of Defiance now and then, it definitely has its charms, especially if you like the tv show as I do (it's nice to revisit that world). The first season of the tv show was a bit iffy, but the last season (season 2) actually got quite good, partly because I'd started to become a bit more invested in the characters (some of whom are really well acted) and partly because an overall story arc is gradually developing. I'm looking forward to season 3. I think the tie-in of an MMO and tv show was a great idea, but unfortunately the pieces didn't all come together and click the way they ideally should have done. Despite some fun core shooter gameplay and progression mechanics, the MMO does feel rushed and unfinished - not quite enough of the detailed virtual world and social experience, and above all not enough of the quality storylines it needs to have, to really tie in with a tv show like Defiance. Also I feel the developers made a mistake not focussing on making it a PC game first and foremost. I can see their logic (they probably thought there's a bigger native audience on consoles who would be likely to have seen the tv show), but ultimately MMOs are PC home turf, and a more PC-friendly version of the game might have gotten the game some more initial loyalty and sticking power. I hope this experiment is tried again in the future, it's something that could be fantastic if all the ducks are in a row.
I bought this game. Two days in, I'm stuck, unable to complete a story mission because I need to "rescue captives" that never spawn. My only option now is to start from the very beginning and hope it doesn't happen again. Screw that, I'm gonna start a new epic quest: trying to get a refund.
I tried that twice. I think it's because it let me do the mission when I wasn't supposed to. I stumbled upon it and, thinking it was one of those "random encounter" missions, cleared out the area and rescued the captives. I didn't get any reward, but I didn't think anything of it. But now, when I need them, it may not spawn them because I already killed the mutants and rescued the people, just not on their terms.
Teodros King You learn fairly early to never watch trailers for anything but a bit of action. If the trailer doesn't have the gameplay in and a bit of a breakdown about what it is, then there is no point. Leave the trailers for movies.

All this patching up is bullshit. It shouldn't need years of development after it's initial release for it to be playable. Red Dead Redemption didn't need half a million updates to impress. Every game needs a polish and of course not every game is perfect but how about you make a game that thousands of people will play before you go critisizing every game that dosent stand on your " high stand of worthiness" and had tons of work put into it.
I feel that this score is really low... maybe it's just me but I've been playing it for 6 months and I actually prefer this over other MMOs. My first experience was probably why. I'm going through the game teaming up with people who ACTUALLY help you out and you'll complete missions together without having to fight over them. After a while of exploring around I saw over hundred people (yes over hundred) drive right by. So I hopped on my runner and followed them, we pull up to this massive bug and almost everyone in the server was there. This damn thing could take out 10 extremely high level players with one strike! It was literally throwing people in the air. I couldn't do any damage to it so I pull out my BMG and start healing people. But of course I get knocked down and before I could even react someone revived me. As I'm healing I get swarmed with tons of little bugs and the guys I'm healing came over to kill them... and revive me again. After we finally killed the damn thing (which took a while) the notices would not stop coming. Just constantly "you received this gun that gun, this gun, two shields, weapon mods, ark forges, unlocked two skill points" then I sat there playing with all my new toys and let me tell you... the guns are bad ass. Almost, if not better, than Borderland guns. And that's coming from someone who's been a long time fan of Borderlands. After the boss this girl pulls up in a Dodge Challenger and tells me she'll help me level up cause she was starting a new character in that area. I usually make fun of the Xbox community but since my PC fried I started playing on my 360 again, and surprisingly... the nicest community of players on XBL are all on Defiance. Even their forum is really welcoming to noobs. There are PvP team arenas, co-op raid bosses, massive open world events, tons of side missions, TV show special missions, main missions, hot shot challenges (like how many chickens can you kill with a pistol in one minute, or my favorite is the sniper cover hot shot mission where you have to protect miners from enemies with a powerful ass sniper that one shots everything). Oh and they have races! Plus in PvP and co-op arenas there are special vehicles with mounted missile launchers and big ass guns, including the driver that's 3 people. Best of all the game has gone free-to-play, but it isn't one of those; you need to pay to be any good- kinda games. You wouldn't ever need to spend a penny on the game. But if you do buy some boxes or legendary weapon mystery boxes they'll be worth the money. You might end up buying the thing that increases your inventory slots or how many ark forges you can carry but you don't NEED them until you're extremely high level. PS This game doesn't have this many bugs now. Actually I've never had a single bug. Just the ones I shoot to death.
Playing this game is just awesome. Trion always listen to the community which makes this game a blast. On all platforms, everyone is willing to help you out. There is tons of stuff to do in this game. I hope they continue to support this game until the TV series ends. I will be happy if they port it over to next-gen too.
Reviews have been the same since the 1980's but back then it was different. You go play something on your N.E.S. or Atari 2600 and it will be the same exact game you played all those years ago. Today, games are no longer set in stone upon release. They can be changed, updated and given new content. And if games can change so should reviews. Reviews tend to award those who get it right the first time. When there's a mistake, bug or glitch that ruins the game it will show in the review. But when developers go and fix that issue or they update the game to add something players want does that not deserve some praise? It shows they're listening to their customers. The devs of Defiance talk to people on their forum. And it doesn't require 10 pages of replies to just get their attention. A single solitary comment from someone who's only posted twice so far on the site could get a reply.... cause I did. They welcomed me to the game and answered my questions. It took two replies to give us a bonus to gained XP and reputation because our servers were down for 6 hours (due to a massive storm). If you've logged on to NA servers you've seen the result of that in the patch info. It's amazing to see that kind of dedication. When the game came out it had problems... oh yeah it had serious problems. But those have been fixed. Literally everything Joe mentions here has been changed... except for the classes and abilities... that's core gaming mechanics. But regardless I think their effort deserves some recognition.
Joe, the thing you need to realize about MMO's... releases are rarely EVER good. O_o Releases for MMOs are almost always horrid and hair ripping aggravating. There's bugs, there's server issues, there's login issues, patch issues.. I've been at it since 2005/6 with multiple MMOs.. they all usually start the same. Bad. But once smoothed over it becomes a matter of taste

Maps disappear, enemies can't be seen, you run into roadblocks that kill you but you can't see them either. It's really gotten the worst it's ever been. Go read the Defiance forum, it's crazy shit.

So, since the game is celebrating the second year out, and the show's Season 3 is already in the progress of filming, how do you feel about the game and show now? Any different? The same? And with some of the updates over the years to the interface, do you feel its gotten better or worse? BTW, the Defiance website has a timeline (which fills in events not only mentioned in the show, but covers the events that lead to the Pale Wars and some events after the Battle of Defiance), an encyclopedia of aliens and technology, and a map of the world that fills in the gaps in questions that you're mentioning (including that Hellbugs were a part of the end results of the terraforming technology that changed the Earth. The terraforming tech also created Pows, a creature that's a combination of pig and cow, as well as the wolve-crabs seen in the show).
The television show is one of my favorite science fiction shows in the last decade, second only to stargate, and is now entering it's third season. The game is evolving aside the television program, and is constantly being updated and added to. The game is also one of the few free to play games I keep coming back to, as well as Star Trek: Online, which Joe also bitched about. And, since Joe has now taken an anti-gamergate position, as well as siding so much with Anita Sarkeesian, the fucking antichrist when it comes to videogames, He's on the way out.
I'm canadian, actually. Firefly was pretty damn good, yes. It's a shame that Joss Whedon has shown himself to be an ignorant douche, however. Part of why I like stargate MORE than firefly, however, is that it showed a great deal of character progression. That of course has something to do with the fact that it ran for so many seasons, surviving multiple cancellation attempts. It might also have to do with the way that Richard Dean Anderson portrayed Jack O'neil in such a likable manner, changing the character from a standard grunt as seen in the original film to a crass, sarcastic leader with a surprisingly complex personality. It might also have to do with the way that the writing progressed. It was certainly a show chock full of tropes, but it managed to portray them in a somewhat unique manner. If you don't like something, that's fine, but that doesn't mean that everyone else is wrong. Of course, your request for a disagreeing opinion to die shows that you're simply an ignorant shit anyways. I suggest you take your own advice.
i gave up half way in the second season. I kept telling myself it would get better but after 4 or 5 episodes it never went anywhere. So i just kind of stopped watching.
Jake Wilson yeah i have played it at a friends house 5 days ago . there are some bugs ( besides the hellbugs) but those are either too funny , or not really intrusive . i would say , give it a try , the only thing you lose is a little time if you dont like it :)
also i want to add that there are now huge ass public events now! i just did a thing in Water Temple district... we had to first clear out the whole area then a giant ass robot came out... my mini map was full of purple and red dots it was massive had a lot of fun in that event.

I actually miss this show. Season 2 was crap but season 1 wasn't bad and season 3 had a lot of promise. Plus they filmed in my city, I wanted to be an extra on it but I never got the chance.
I wouldn't say it's a "must own", but for $10 it's more like a "why not?" It's mildly fun if you can take it for what it is, which isn't hard to do for a more open-minded gamer. I did get a decent amount of enjoyment out of it, but that's probably just because I enjoy the gameplay and world events.
you must work for trion, because that game is repetitive as HELL. You'll get about 15hours out it. Just get the trial, and you'll see what you'll pretty much be doing the whole game.
At first i didn't get defiance so i didnt return to playing the game for a while, but after i heard it was so good i came back and on the fourth day of continuous playing i realize that this is a great game aside from the bits of lag, you really socialize and help your teamates, in other words its like an open world team fortress 2 but really advance, i recommend anyone who likes social and shooting to get the game its awesome.

_UPDATE 2015:_ The game itself has changed but that doesn't mean that the whole idea of the game is different. The quests are likely the same boring as how were before, no big change. In fact some one the quests may force you to play tactical and never rush, which is a bad idea for close range weapons now. An example will be that I had to camp outside of the f***in outpost 10 minutes to take out all the enemies because if I get too close I have no chance alone. And yes, my shots on mobs are mostly like: 70% headshot 30% chest ( unless its a damn bug which I can't headshot for some reason ) . With that being said you can realize that even for me It's hard while I try to get close. And yes, Im always using cover and shotgun at close range, but because now the shotgun is pretty weak ( ofc ) I mostly preffer pistols with their headshot damage. The bosses didnt change also, now I would really like to see bosses like in Vindictus or Dragon Nest or Warface but all the bosses which I fought were very damn easy ( in fact they didnt even change them ). Also the mobs are the same, same thinking method, and the sneak system is horrible. After I get uncloaked even if theres a wall he can still see me. Also the HP seems pretty fkin damn HIGH for a mob. I understand that they have to prepare for PvP but soloing missions against those high hp f*cks is a pain in the ass. Same interface, small improvements. Retarded GPS ( srsly if you make one then at least make it work dont just draw a fkin line from a point to another ). INSANE LAG! I NEVER EVER got problems with lag in any MMO which I played before ( well in Scarlet Blade at first when it released but back then the servers were messed up ) . The thing is that Glyph is not offering European servers or for the love of god if I know why I have 200+ ping in every of their game. But yes, the game IS STILL #worthit just bacause of the PvP. You finally get a change to feel like a real sniper, a real assassin and so on because of the perks. But srsly, there are a lot of things to be done, and that applies to all of their games.
Honestly Joe should do a straw poll and see if viewers want him to re-review Defiance. I played endlessly in the Xbox 360 beta before spending over $150 on the actual games release for the Xbox 360 only to not play it at all. About a year ago I bought it for the PC for $4.99 and dumped about $50 into it for all the DLC and some micro transactions. The PC version as it stands is light years better than the initial release version, highly recommend you guys at least try it especially now that its gone F2P.
This was updated last year 3 years after the show ended. The canceled TV show season 4 script was used as part of the update. Its free worth a try, and somewhat fun.
This game is really good. I appreciated this free to play game in PS3. I voice chatted with friends and enjoyed the atmosphere and 3rd person shooting. Unfortunately lots of people didn't like it.
Fuck I miss this game, despite its issues its a fun world to immerse yourself in. I miss my 6k ego/5k power characters. If only they would allow you to play and grind offline or have private servers
I have. The final fantasy beta failed on me twice on PS4. By the way, the patch error occurred on the Defiance beta. It's an application issue. Not a hardware issue.

I've been playing the crap outta Defiance for the last few days, and after Destiny leaving such an empty place in my heart and an, unfortunately, bad taste in my mouth Defiance delivers. I'll give it this: it has been some time since the actual release of the game (and heck, I've only just discovered it was on xbl, whee!) so a lot of bugs have been worked out, but the game leaves me happy! Where I struggle for hours to get one exotic gun from a bounty in Destiny, Defiance's loot is fair! I find it to be somewhere between Destiny and Borderlands in that aspect! The sieges, arkfalls, and community raids are freaking awesome too, and I actually happen to enjoy the EGO perk system! It's to the point where I actually want to watch the show, where before I played the game the show was a mere passing fancy! This all said, I doubt I'll be getting the Destiny DLC's, especially seeing as how they're basically just things that were cut from the base game as it is. And if I DO get the DLC's, it probably won't be until Destiny 2 comes out, and Destiny one is finally "complete", where after only playing for a few days of Defiance, (granted I'll give it a little more time before I decide) I feel like getting the season pass!
Now a days, having watched the show(loved it) and played the game, it's pretty amazing. I have yet to run into any bugs. It's def a try from Steam. My friends and I love going around in our Mad Max type cars and raising hell :)

Well, not all games are for everyone! :) It's a pretty popular game though, and deservedly so. The art design is amazing, quite original and beautiful, and the lore is interesting. The gameplay is fast and furious, and the game engine is one of the slickest I've ever played a game on, while still having quite a high end look. I did enjoy Defiance, it's got some cool aspects. And Destiny is ok, but it's just a bit cookie-cutter in the art design for my tastes. Warframe just has an originality and quality vibe of its own.

Just so that we can '' identify '' and find them attractive? People fucking seriously can't identify or sympathize with characters if they don't look like us? District 9 is a good example of a show with completely alien characters that I could sympathize with.
Usually it's budget. Star Trek made almost all aliens (except their little CG friends like 8472 and the Changelings) people in prosthetic makeup or rubber foreheads. They did it well, but again, not much difference except "oh yea, he's a Flaborbian because he has two bumps on his nose. And that's guy's a Tadingian because he has three." However, when a show has the money and the design team for it, they can make some really cool looking aliens like they did in Farscape. I can sympathize with Pilot easily, and he's a four-armed lobster who is a animatronic puppet off-screen.

I still think that my point about sympathy and identifying with the characters remains. But you're definetly right about the budget part too. Even so, I wish that they would get a bit more imaginary with the whole rubber part. I mean, there has to be a hundred different things that you can do with that rubber. And if you throw in just a LITTLE bit of CG, there's even more that you can do. I mean even with the Klingon. Just give them some eye lenses that look more alien and perhaps some rubber around the mouth to '' reshape it ( kinda like they did with the forehead ), or the nose. That could add a lot. It's mainly the features of the face, eyes, nose and mouth that makes them yell '' LOOK AT ME! I AM A HUMAN WITH RUBBER ON MAH FACE! ''. So that should really be the number 1 priority.
Aidan Carter That's why I love the Aliens in the Star Wars movies so much. They actually look Alien. And I am not talking about the prequel CGI ones, but the old movies. Even the Twi lek guy in Jabbas palace looks completely Alien ( only him tho, the other twi leks look very humanoid. But they still look like an actual alien still ). But they have VERY few Alien species that actually look '' human ''. There are definetly a few, but most of them are not even close.
Consider the first star wars movies budget, and then look at all of those aliens in the bar. That's a pretty damn amazing feat.

Well, the scientific explanation is because that's what they'd realistically look like. Scientifically speaking, it stands to reason that if there is intelligent life on another planet that's as smart as/smarter then us, then they must have around the same viable living conditions on the planet, and therefore the evolution of life on their planet would have gone roughly the same as the one we went through from the early microscopic life-forms to modern humans, with a few alterations here and there.
So yes, aliens would look human. The unrealistic interpretation would be those that depict aliens as being huge, random, weird life forms that look nothing like humans. Of course, those interpretations are more creative and fun, so this is something where realism should just be put to one side, but yeah. That's the reason.

It's so relaxing going to sleep listening to AngryJoe review bad games.
I do quite enjoy a blast of Defiance now and then, it definitely has its charms, especially if you like the tv show as I do (it's nice to revisit that world). The first season of the tv show was a bit iffy, but the last season (season 2) actually got quite good, partly because I'd started to become a bit more invested in the characters (some of whom are really well acted) and partly because an overall story arc is gradually developing. I'm looking forward to season 3.
I think the tie-in of an MMO and tv show was a great idea, but unfortunately the pieces didn't all come together and click the way they ideally should have done. Despite some fun core shooter gameplay and progression mechanics, the MMO does feel rushed and unfinished - not quite enough of the detailed virtual world and social experience, and above all not enough of the quality storylines it needs to have, to really tie in with a tv show like Defiance. Also I feel the developers made a mistake not focussing on making it a PC game first and foremost. I can see their logic (they probably thought there's a bigger native audience on consoles who would be likely to have seen the tv show), but ultimately MMOs are PC home turf, and a more PC-friendly version of the game might have gotten the game some more initial loyalty and sticking power.
I hope this experiment is tried again in the future, it's something that could be fantastic if all the ducks are in a row.
I bought this game. Two days in, I'm stuck, unable to complete a story mission because I need to "rescue captives" that never spawn. My only option now is to start from the very beginning and hope it doesn't happen again.
Screw that, I'm gonna start a new epic quest: trying to get a refund.

I think it's because it let me do the mission when I wasn't supposed to. I stumbled upon it and, thinking it was one of those "random encounter" missions, cleared out the area and rescued the captives. I didn't get any reward, but I didn't think anything of it. But now, when I need them, it may not spawn them because I already killed the mutants and rescued the people, just not on their terms.

I feel that this score is really low... maybe it's just me but I've been playing it for 6 months and I actually prefer this over other MMOs. My first experience was probably why. I'm going through the game teaming up with people who ACTUALLY help you out and you'll complete missions together without having to fight over them. After a while of exploring around I saw over hundred people (yes over hundred) drive right by. So I hopped on my runner and followed them, we pull up to this massive bug and almost everyone in the server was there. This damn thing could take out 10 extremely high level players with one strike! It was literally throwing people in the air. I couldn't do any damage to it so I pull out my BMG and start healing people. But of course I get knocked down and before I could even react someone revived me. As I'm healing I get swarmed with tons of little bugs and the guys I'm healing came over to kill them... and revive me again. After we finally killed the damn thing (which took a while) the notices would not stop coming. Just constantly "you received this gun that gun, this gun, two shields, weapon mods, ark forges, unlocked two skill points" then I sat there playing with all my new toys and let me tell you... the guns are bad ass. Almost, if not better, than Borderland guns. And that's coming from someone who's been a long time fan of Borderlands. After the boss this girl pulls up in a Dodge Challenger and tells me she'll help me level up cause she was starting a new character in that area.
I usually make fun of the Xbox community but since my PC fried I started playing on my 360 again, and surprisingly... the nicest community of players on XBL are all on Defiance. Even their forum is really welcoming to noobs.
There are PvP team arenas, co-op raid bosses, massive open world events, tons of side missions, TV show special missions, main missions, hot shot challenges (like how many chickens can you kill with a pistol in one minute, or my favorite is the sniper cover hot shot mission where you have to protect miners from enemies with a powerful ass sniper that one shots everything). Oh and they have races! Plus in PvP and co-op arenas there are special vehicles with mounted missile launchers and big ass guns, including the driver that's 3 people.
Best of all the game has gone free-to-play, but it isn't one of those; you need to pay to be any good- kinda games. You wouldn't ever need to spend a penny on the game. But if you do buy some boxes or legendary weapon mystery boxes they'll be worth the money. You might end up buying the thing that increases your inventory slots or how many ark forges you can carry but you don't NEED them until you're extremely high level.
PS This game doesn't have this many bugs now. Actually I've never had a single bug. Just the ones I shoot to death.

Playing this game is just awesome. Trion always listen to the community which makes this game a blast. On all platforms, everyone is willing to help you out. There is tons of stuff to do in this game. I hope they continue to support this game until the TV series ends. I will be happy if they port it over to next-gen too.

Reviews have been the same since the 1980's but back then it was different. You go play something on your N.E.S. or Atari 2600 and it will be the same exact game you played all those years ago. Today, games are no longer set in stone upon release. They can be changed, updated and given new content. And if games can change so should reviews. Reviews tend to award those who get it right the first time. When there's a mistake, bug or glitch that ruins the game it will show in the review. But when developers go and fix that issue or they update the game to add something players want does that not deserve some praise? It shows they're listening to their customers. The devs of Defiance talk to people on their forum. And it doesn't require 10 pages of replies to just get their attention. A single solitary comment from someone who's only posted twice so far on the site could get a reply.... cause I did. They welcomed me to the game and answered my questions. It took two replies to give us a bonus to gained XP and reputation because our servers were down for 6 hours (due to a massive storm). If you've logged on to NA servers you've seen the result of that in the patch info.
It's amazing to see that kind of dedication. When the game came out it had problems... oh yeah it had serious problems. But those have been fixed. Literally everything Joe mentions here has been changed... except for the classes and abilities... that's core gaming mechanics. But regardless I think their effort deserves some recognition.
Joe, the thing you need to realize about MMO's... releases are rarely EVER good. O_o Releases for MMOs are almost always horrid and hair ripping aggravating. There's bugs, there's server issues, there's login issues, patch issues.. I've been at it since 2005/6 with multiple MMOs.. they all usually start the same. Bad. But once smoothed over it becomes a matter of taste

BTW, the Defiance website has a timeline (which fills in events not only mentioned in the show, but covers the events that lead to the Pale Wars and some events after the Battle of Defiance), an encyclopedia of aliens and technology, and a map of the world that fills in the gaps in questions that you're mentioning (including that Hellbugs were a part of the end results of the terraforming technology that changed the Earth. The terraforming tech also created Pows, a creature that's a combination of pig and cow, as well as the wolve-crabs seen in the show).

Defiance 2050 is complete garbage compared from Defiance (PS3), sadly.
The television show is one of my favorite science fiction shows in the last decade, second only to stargate, and is now entering it's third season. The game is evolving aside the television program, and is constantly being updated and added to. The game is also one of the few free to play games I keep coming back to, as well as Star Trek: Online, which Joe also bitched about.
And, since Joe has now taken an anti-gamergate position, as well as siding so much with Anita Sarkeesian, the fucking antichrist when it comes to videogames, He's on the way out.

I'm canadian, actually. Firefly was pretty damn good, yes. It's a shame that Joss Whedon has shown himself to be an ignorant douche, however. Part of why I like stargate MORE than firefly, however, is that it showed a great deal of character progression. That of course has something to do with the fact that it ran for so many seasons, surviving multiple cancellation attempts. It might also have to do with the way that Richard Dean Anderson portrayed Jack O'neil in such a likable manner, changing the character from a standard grunt as seen in the original film to a crass, sarcastic leader with a surprisingly complex personality. It might also have to do with the way that the writing progressed. It was certainly a show chock full of tropes, but it managed to portray them in a somewhat unique manner. If you don't like something, that's fine, but that doesn't mean that everyone else is wrong. Of course, your request for a disagreeing opinion to die shows that you're simply an ignorant shit anyways. I suggest you take your own advice.

It's mildly fun if you can take it for what it is, which isn't hard to do for a more open-minded gamer. I did get a decent amount of enjoyment out of it, but that's probably just because I enjoy the gameplay and world events.
you must work for trion, because that game is repetitive as HELL. You'll get about 15hours out it. Just get the trial, and you'll see what you'll pretty much be doing the whole game.

At first i didn't get defiance so i didnt return to playing the game for a while, but after i heard it was so good i came back and on the fourth day of continuous playing i realize that this is a great game aside from the bits of lag, you really socialize and help your teamates, in other words its like an open world team fortress 2 but really advance, i recommend anyone who likes social and shooting to get the game its awesome.

_UPDATE 2015:_ The game itself has changed but that doesn't mean that the whole idea of the game is different. The quests are likely the same boring as how were before, no big change. In fact some one the quests may force you to play tactical and never rush, which is a bad idea for close range weapons now. An example will be that I had to camp outside of the f***in outpost 10 minutes to take out all the enemies because if I get too close I have no chance alone. And yes, my shots on mobs are mostly like: 70% headshot 30% chest ( unless its a damn bug which I can't headshot for some reason ) . With that being said you can realize that even for me It's hard while I try to get close. And yes, Im always using cover and shotgun at close range, but because now the shotgun is pretty weak ( ofc ) I mostly preffer pistols with their headshot damage. The bosses didnt change also, now I would really like to see bosses like in Vindictus or Dragon Nest or Warface but all the bosses which I fought were very damn easy ( in fact they didnt even change them ). Also the mobs are the same, same thinking method, and the sneak system is horrible. After I get uncloaked even if theres a wall he can still see me. Also the HP seems pretty fkin damn HIGH for a mob. I understand that they have to prepare for PvP but soloing missions against those high hp f*cks is a pain in the ass. Same interface, small improvements. Retarded GPS ( srsly if you make one then at least make it work dont just draw a fkin line from a point to another ). INSANE LAG! I NEVER EVER got problems with lag in any MMO which I played before ( well in Scarlet Blade at first when it released but back then the servers were messed up ) . The thing is that Glyph is not offering European servers or for the love of god if I know why I have 200+ ping in every of their game. But yes, the game IS STILL #worthit just bacause of the PvP. You finally get a change to feel like a real sniper, a real assassin and so on because of the perks.

Honestly Joe should do a straw poll and see if viewers want him to re-review Defiance. I played endlessly in the Xbox 360 beta before spending over $150 on the actual games release for the Xbox 360 only to not play it at all. About a year ago I bought it for the PC for $4.99 and dumped about $50 into it for all the DLC and some micro transactions. The PC version as it stands is light years better than the initial release version, highly recommend you guys at least try it especially now that its gone F2P.

This was updated last year 3 years after the show ended. The canceled TV show season 4 script was used as part of the update. Its free worth a try, and somewhat fun.

This game is really good. I appreciated this free to play game in PS3. I voice chatted with friends and enjoyed the atmosphere and 3rd person shooting. Unfortunately lots of people didn't like it.

I have. The final fantasy beta failed on me twice on PS4. By the way, the patch error occurred on the Defiance beta. It's an application issue. Not a hardware issue.

I've been playing the crap outta Defiance for the last few days, and after Destiny leaving such an empty place in my heart and an, unfortunately, bad taste in my mouth Defiance delivers. I'll give it this: it has been some time since the actual release of the game (and heck, I've only just discovered it was on xbl, whee!) so a lot of bugs have been worked out, but the game leaves me happy! Where I struggle for hours to get one exotic gun from a bounty in Destiny, Defiance's loot is fair! I find it to be somewhere between Destiny and Borderlands in that aspect! The sieges, arkfalls, and community raids are freaking awesome too, and I actually happen to enjoy the EGO perk system! It's to the point where I actually want to watch the show, where before I played the game the show was a mere passing fancy!
This all said, I doubt I'll be getting the Destiny DLC's, especially seeing as how they're basically just things that were cut from the base game as it is. And if I DO get the DLC's, it probably won't be until Destiny 2 comes out, and Destiny one is finally "complete", where after only playing for a few days of Defiance, (granted I'll give it a little more time before I decide) I feel like getting the season pass!
So...when is that vault from Saint Luis is gonna open? Patricia Tannis might know, right?
Now a days, having watched the show(loved it) and played the game, it's pretty amazing. I have yet to run into any bugs. It's def a try from Steam. My friends and I love going around in our Mad Max type cars and raising hell :)

Haters gonna hate, and you know what? Let 'em hate, it just shows that they have nothing better to do with their time. Sure the game is rough around the edges, but it's still fun, and has enough content to keep you occupied for many hours.
Yes the game should have been F2P from day one, but companies are always slow to learn modern trends.

Well, not all games are for everyone! :) It's a pretty popular game though, and deservedly so. The art design is amazing, quite original and beautiful, and the lore is interesting. The gameplay is fast and furious, and the game engine is one of the slickest I've ever played a game on, while still having quite a high end look.
I did enjoy Defiance, it's got some cool aspects. And Destiny is ok, but it's just a bit cookie-cutter in the art design for my tastes. Warframe just has an originality and quality vibe of its own.
