THE STORY OF GOOGLE+ - Google's biggest ever failure (aka how Facebook beat Google). Google should have easily won the social network war. Not only did Google have more money, experience, employees, and users - Google actually launched their first social network site in January 2004 (a social media site called ORKUT), a few weeks before Facebook launched, and long before the likes of Twitter and Instagram. In fact Google has created many different attempts to directly compete with all of these platforms - and yet they’ve all failed. Most famous was Google+, which has since been described as ‘Google’s biggest ever failure’ - it became a joke, and not only did people not want to use it, many actively hated it. So, what was the REAL reason Google + failed? With the help of leaked emails and interviews, in this video we’ll explore behind the scenes of the rise and fall of Google +. Because Google is a company that has achieved such ridiculously impressive things - from organizing the internet with search, to indexing the world’s books, mapping the planet, and creating countless innovative and helpful products. And yet when it comes to building a social network to rival Facebook, Google has repeatedly failed spectacularly. Now technically you could say TH-cam is a social network - but it’s obviously more of a video platform than friends connecting and sharing updates. Which is why Google spent so much money trying to make Google+ work. So let’s go on a journey into the inner workings of Google, and find out the truth. Welcome to the INSANE story of Google+ and the battle for social media between big tech. I hope you enjoy this business documentary from MagnatesMedia - for more stories on making money, growing business and other company stories, subscribe to MagnatesMedia.

^ There’s a reason the ultra rich put so much money into art, and it’s definitely not just because they like the paintings. Fine art is an asset with a great track record of increasing in value. Obviously until now none of us could just go and buy a Picasso or Banksy though. But with Masterworks, you now CAN purchase shares in great masterpieces. So if you want a unique way to diversify your portfolio instead of being so reliant on stocks, click the link above to check out Masterworks for yourself.

Google have inherited the Microsoft problem- they're too big, too corporate, the social network your boss would use (to keep you in check). If TikTok is what you would use to speak to your friends (via Beijing, of course); and Facebook is what you use to speak to your parents, Google+ was what you would have used to speak to your boss. Not much fun... so the boss bought TH-cam- but at least it's commenting about videos rather than a hangout as such.

My biggest memories of g+ was gathering images because it's was high quality but Flickr was better for that and it being very unuser friendly for actual social media tasks. The circles just didn't make sense.

All jokes aside, G+ UI was super next-level for the time. Back then Facebook was very buggy. G+ UI was smooth & modern.

So, I'm glad I can comment here. I think one of the main reasons Google failed is because most people still only know it as a search engine. Unless you have a reason to investigate what else Google can offer you, like Meet, Chat, Calendar or News, you wouldn't even know they were there.

That circle feature seems actually pretty legit. I’m honestly surprised Facebook hasn’t done something like that because I know a lot of people that will share something on Facebook and then a coworker. Will see it in the next day. They’re hearing about it at work or you just get tired of seeing certain post about the their business, or like my page or whatever it may be.

One thing that really helps Reddit is it auto subs you to the top subs and has the front page as something separate. If they did something like that and had a dedicated team of mods and content creators to just have something things would be a little bit more different.
It's not like launching a video sharing sight, most of what it needed was text and picture stuff. Honestly they could have had a good chance taking on Imgur.

I think the main reason Google+ failed is: nobody wants to use a social media platform that looks like Microsoft Excel.
They should have invested more in UI, and picked a theme. Make it easy to understand, nice to look at and inviting, not "corporate and professional"
Also, using all colors of the rainbow does not do any favors on your UI either. It makes it hectic and messy. Pick a color theme and stick to it. Give it personality and identity.

I once had a small argument with someone on Facebook in a public group (didn't know the person). Couple hours later my ex-girlfriend (still friends on FB) texts me asking about my "fight" with the other guy ... because apparently Facebook decided to give her a notification that I had a random conversation with a random dude in a group she wasn't a member in. I got so annoyed with FB after that I set everything to private, deleted anyone I didn't know personally, left most groups and now I only post stories that disappear in 24 hours.
If I fucking want someone to know about a conversation I had with someone else then I would freaking tell them myself.
