When I was your age, 30 WAS a big number. Now 30 is a distant memory and I realized how much I've experienced and learned in the 37 years since then. If you choose, this next decade - or 12 years as you look at it - will be you best opportunity for growth and learning and gathering experiences. Don't waste the energy you have now and will have for the next decade. Do productive and beneficial and enjoyable things before your body starts complaining about what you ask of it. I destroyed a knee at 37 whilst teaching Tae Kwon Do. Big turning point and indeed, I do practice martial arts differently at 67. Including Tai Chi. Good prediction. One side effect of entering each new decade is that you will come to understand what complete bollocks some of your "wise" ideas were during the previous decade. I look back at my 50s now and realize how much I've learned since then. NEVER STOP LEARNING.
Great to hear from you Grady and a wonderful message. We certainly will be trying to do all the productive and beneficial things possible in the coming 10/12 years. I had a good chuckle at your humbling reminder as well! PS. Can't take whole credit for the Tai Chi prediction! Was based off an episode of "Limitless" that was recommended to me by a friend.
I think you can be so positive and relaxed in many of these thoughts is that you have found your ‘soulmate’ , you don’t have to think about appearance because you have your partner already. Also Ella brings up a really important point and something that can be hard for men to really understand, about the countdown clock on having kids expiring. I think personally what scares me most about 30 is that the burden of what a 30 year olds status in society should look like, and my problem is I still find the same as I felt at 24, perhaps with less energy and more knowledge/wisdom. What is also most scary is that from 22 to 28 went by so fast, it’s the societal image of what a 22 yr old should look like vs what a 28 year old should look like. It’s just 6 years , but the ‘image’ difference appears as 16 years It’s a very interesting topic and something I am struggling to find peace with.
Not entirely true, I haven't thought about appearances for many years - before I met Ella. Though of course this may help some push through and see how trivial outside appearances actually are. Re countdown clock, this is of course true, but I also think it's also really important not to make the decision for this kind of pressured reason. Energy is not something that necessarily declines with age (as I and many others can attest to) so I hope you find the way to align things in your life to help with that. I don't believe you should let other people's expectation burden you. You are you. They are them. Society's expectations are mostly wrong and misguided. This is also the gift of living in the present. 6 years is nothing if you can never be in the moment right now and appreciate what is happening in front and around you. Don't judge yourself by your perception of other people's assumed expectations. They don't matter.
