We road-tripped 3-weeks across high-altitude Tibetan Sichuan - 50 minutes of Wild China
Tibetan China is difficult to access so we were excited to have a chance to explore by campervan; it made enduring the frosty nights and mornings possible. The culture and landscapes in this part of the world are simply fantastic and the 4-5000m altitude in parts really adds a surreal touch to it all that is impossible to portray here.
I hope our experiences here can give you a window into this remote realm!
PS. For clarity: this is the Tibetan part of Sichuan in Western China, not the Tibetan province (where you would need a guide and be limited to exploring set destinations).
Thanks to 房车生活家 for the campervan.

I cried 8 times and was healed | My first 10-Day Silent Vipassana Meditation Retreat

Since the first time Scott completed a 10-day goenka meditation retreat in Bali, I've been very curious about vipassana. Now I finally know what Scott's been doing when he's been sitting in silence every day, and on the way, I learnt more about myself.

This time on Goenka's 10-day silent vipassana meditation course my struggle was thinking that I knew what I did not, assuming that I would achieve something I could not, coming to the humbling realization that I know nothing. Food for thought from "The Clock has Struck": - Every sensation arises through senses or thought - Sensations precede intellectualising thought - Thought precedes craving ...

Hitchhiking, for me, is the ultimate adventure. It's the reason I got my first tattoo. It's what got me hooked on traveling. Singing Bowl Therapy sounds like mystical, pseudoscientific experimentation when you first hear about it, yet the experience is quite profound. The whole-body relaxation you acquire after a singing bowl therapy session is evidence enough for its healing effects. It's a very natural and calming technique to help your mind still and go to sleep. Thank you Deepak for helping us to try!

how much heavy you carry on that packback?
Usually 20+kg in the big one :)
Dont generalise about people you've observed doing strange things (not rinsing soaped dishes). Not everyone has weird habits, some of us are quite normal?😮
I didn't realise you had so much filming equipment. I bet you have hours of content just sitting on your laptop.
So much! It’s often changing too. Right now we have about 2TB backed up across two hard drives. That’s pretty standard for us. 4 current projects and a bunch of half-finished old ones I’m waiting for a lull in projects to finish!
@@EllaScott that's impressive. I guess it gets easier now that ssd's and SD cards can be so large. Take your time with them. The production feel over the last few documentary style videos has been markedly improved over the earlier stuff.
@@InsanitiesBrother Yes, everything's getting easier, which is incredible. Thanks for the motivation! Lots to come.

I want to know how many times Scott practiced "you forgot something" before that clip =D Another great video. This channel is becoming very diversified with it's content. I look forward to the seemingly inevitable ultra-light transformation if this stuff keeps up =D
Too much stuff, haha! Thanks. Our knees would certainly thank us for an ultra-light transformation!
I have never heard of a moon cup and i'm somewhat intrigued.
Most eco-friendly feminine product and super useful for on the road travel :)
@@EllaScott Sounds pretty awesome
Hey Ella & Scott, I started watching your channel to improve my Chinese before my first trip to China in August this year. I started to explore more of your content and it turned out that you're two amazing human beings. I got inspired by your story and how you navigate your relationship. I also turned 30 this year so I can relate to so many things and thoughts our generation share...I'm doing yoga almost every day, I struggle with mediation (was also doing Win Hoff method for some time). I just can't find peace in my mind, anxiety kicks in the moment i wake up to run the mundane schedule. I spent 2 weeks in Beijing this summer and got totally mesmerized by China...I also met someone there and we found ourselves attracted to each other, which totally messed my return to Europe. I constantly feel I'm missing out something in my life now, and I'm growing so many doubts in my head. I'm living pretty boring life here, just bought apartment with my girlfriend (mortgage ofc.) and have an office job; it's stable but these things doesn't satisfy me nor bring joy. I just felt I wanted share it with you, don't know why, lol, probably because this video focus so much on inner self. Anyway... wish you all the best for your future endeavours, even though you have small audience, your content is top notch. Thank you for sharing your story🙏🏻
Sounds like our lives have some crossover :) I feel like getting good at life is getting good at making the right decisions, that’s all it is. And meditation has definitely helped both of us get clarity on what the right choice is sometimes, especially because it seems to help slow everything down when the world can feel like it’s spinning too fast. I’m happy our films could give you something and I’m sure you’re on your way to a better place, even if it feels winding. Live life for you!
@@EllaScott thank you for answering. Yeah, you're right. It's all about decisions and trade offs, what can we sacrifice and what we just have to accept. and I'm conflicted by desire of wanting to have it all, experience as much as I can but at the same time having the comfort of stability. Life is short and that triggers anxiety (especially after experiencing China for two weeks...) knowing that every day of hesitation works against me. I hope that getting back to simple medidaton and some breath work will make decision making process a little bit easier. I'll be watching your endeavours as I'm curious how your relationship will grow what your life will turn into over time. Best wishes from Poland, Jakub ( 湖明泽).
@hmcky More comfort/stability definitely = less experiences. I'm sure that improving your meditation and breath work can help give you some insight. Keep it up and good luck! 😁
Despite not understanding a word of what you said, I found that absolutely beautiful. The subtitles told me all about your experience but your voice and the language said it all. I have my first Vipassana meditation coming up in November and what I take from this is that everyone has their own unique experience. I am very much looking forward to it and go there filled with excitement and a little trepidation. I’m so glad you found it so enjoyable/useful. Thank you for sharing.
So true, it is a unique experience for everyone!
Great to see u guys!!
Hello Scott, hope you guys are doing well!
We are! Hope you too :)
Plenty of impolite people and people in a hurry but for the most part just ignore them and pretend they made an effort
Besides the equanimity Vipassana helps you to maintain in relation to your thoughts, it seems to give you super eloquent/fluid speaking abilities
Thanks! 😁 It absolutely helps remove barriers to speaking for me like anxiety or second guessing what I'm going to say, which helps things flow
I’m about to go and I am so scared of what’s going to come up in my mind
There's nothing to fear. You are not your thoughts, thoughts just come up without any will or our part. It is our awareness of them which gives us the power to decided what to do with them, and can always be ... nothing at all, just let it slide away
It’s literally the best vipassana story I have heard by now! So deep, sincere and inspiring! Thanks a lot for sharing and being so open ❤ I am going to my first vipassana in October this year, wish me some luck :)) 🎉
Good luck!!!

Glad you enjoyed! These seas are both sub-divisions of the Mediterranean :)
Another good video. This one has a very BBC docuseries feel. The emotional tones with a lot of B roll you clearly put effort into. Those guys waving at the camera, I could almost see a "guys, I wanted a candid shot" in your little smile after. Keep it up.
Thanks for the encouragement 😀 Happy you enjoyed the film

Loved meeting you guys! Hope we can meet again 😊 Tomato egg is so underrated by Chinese haha
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing this entire experience of yours after Vipassana meaning all that you could heal inside you after doing this Vipassana. I want to know how have you been feeling after this? I mean did you get any trauma back again in your life? Now currently how are feeling as a human, did you attract all that you desired in your life? Please Please Please Reply to my comment.... I really want to know your complete experience now also..... I mean in current phase of your life......
No more trauma. Trauma free. Feel like I shed a lot of baggage and still on my way up to who I want to be. Can’t say I have achieved everything I desire but I’m very content with current lifestyle and relationships ☺️
@@EllaScott Wow That's great 👍 i am very impressed with your journey and you are very lucky to release from all your trauma in just one 10day Course, I dint have same experience but wish for it, but your experience is very very inspiring to me. I wish and pray for same for myself in my upcoming course. Thanks again for sharing that you dint get back all that and living a new life which is more Happier & Satisfied, truly you are an inspiration, I have shared your video to so many people as i myself know benefits of Vipassana but your experience is phenomenal. Thanks again for sharing, it's truly inspiring. Metta🙏 🙏 🙏
@sweetpooja5300 I hope you find peace in your trauma too! I feel that these things can't be forced, but at the right time it will find you, and you will be ready 🤘
@@EllaScott i totally agree with you.... I have been practicing Vipassana everyday at home and Do One Day Courses once a week in my city, feeling some difference but yet to release completely. Thanks for your inspiration 😊
Yes, it's call PITI (Pali) .Your meditation level up. Congratulations🎉...and your are the first I found in youtube for 10 day vipassana practice that touch PITI. Your meditation go fast. For Next level you need to know about "anapanasti". if you hear other people talk something like piti please let's them know.

Thanks friend!
I didn't face my stuttering until recently. I just started a new job, and it forces me to speak more. Every night after coming home, I practice reading out loud. Sometimes I get discouraged, but i will keep up the work.
Sounds like you’re doing great! Keep it up ☺️
@@EllaScott thank you

@@EllaScott i mean the project specifically :)
A very interesting video, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for watching!
This was a really nice travel video, makes me want to visit! Idk if its this case, but sometimes there are scams where taxi drivers will say your hotel dosent excist and then try to take you somewhere else to pocket the money... it sounds like you had a nicer experience because of it, but I'd be cautious about these things in the future! (I guess this kinda scam might not exist much in China? I've noticed the taxi drivers there can be quite honest)
Yay! Hope you can. This wasn’t the case for us it was unreliable airbnb. We have since learned to never book airbnbs without reviews or a host that replies because this wasn’t the only time it’s happened 😅
Gonna need the name of those songs 🔥🔥
I grew up in the city! I can assure you there’s many places with wifi and hot water in the city. (You can boil your water if u want). I think most of the residents have those amenities. The whole “pee” scent comment was unneeded, next time please book a nice airbnb or a hotel where you’ll have those amenities. Just because you have been inside on resident doesn’t reflect the entire city. Let’s avoid the generalizations we are making here. UB is a modern city with inequality just like any other city in the world. There has been a strong move to rehouse the ger district into apartments but the rural to urban migration trend has been growing.
Hey! Thanks for your comment and I’m sorry if it caused offence. We try to travel as slow as we can to really get a sense of a place and help us get a more rounded view but a week is still only enough for general impressions. We shared our real experiences, nothing more, and I think it was the (enormous) gir district that left the biggest impression
@@EllaScottnot unlike rural parts of China that are dirt poor. I stayed for a night in a motel near the Beijing airport because it was convenient. It was one of the dirtiest, most disgusting places I’ve ever stayed at. I didn’t even take my shoes or clothes off to sleep because I was afraid of catching bed bugs.
Cool adventure, the ger looked more modern than I thought with a flat screen TV and a fridge. And the daughter's place looks quite modern like the interior could be a British home (albeit without the pee stains).
yeah right? I’d totally live in one of those girs 😁
Very beautiful video 🥰🌹
Thanks for visiting! :)
