Suffer the Little Children Podcast - Episode 95: Darisabel Baez

  • The day after her second birthday, Darisabel Baez was rushed to the hospital in York, Pennsylvania covered in so many bruises that her appearance was likened to “camouflage” by first responders. After Darisabel died from her injuries, her mother, Neida Baez, and Neida’s boyfriend, Harve Johnson, were arrested and ultimately charged with murder.
This is the story of another child whose life was cut short by her mother’s live-in boyfriend. It’s also the story of a little girl whose savage beating death by a video game controller and her own hiking boot must not be what we remember best about her or the reason her memory lives on.
This is the tragic story of Darisabel Baez.

“Darisabel was forced to stand in the corner, which was her usual punishment when she woke up too early” She was a BABY! She had no control over when she wakes up. That’s when a loving parent would’ve scooped her up and brought her into their bed to snuggle together in hopes of getting a little bit more shut eye. Those were some of my favorite moments as a mom! These people are truly despicable!!

Right! This part made me sick. "As punishment for waking up too early" That poor little girl man. I just will never understand how a mother can stand idly by while her child is being beat by someone that the mother brought into the household. The mothers lawyer said she didn't do more because she was afraid that the boyfriend would turn on her and hurt her or ramp up Darisabels abuse even more. Um...I'm sorry but if I ever saw someone hurting my child I don't care what happens to me I am going head to head with the monster hurting my child. Most mothers would. I just do not and never will understand the evil...the cruelty these heartless monsters inflict on these innocent babies.

This happened in the town I grew up in. I was in mid 20s and a mother of young baby girl at the time. I will never forget baby Darisabel. I followed her case very closely. It made me disgusted. There were complaints from neighbors prior to this about the treatment of this little girl. Nothing was done. I will also mention, although Harve was in "protective custody" at the local prison until his court hearings. He may have been in protective custody from other inmates, but not the guards. They let him know how they felt about him. That's all I can say about it. I wish nothing but the worst for Harve and Darisabel's mother. She let it happen.

If one is interested, you can do a Zillow tour of the murder house on 710 West Philadelphia Street. It sold fairly recently for a low price but the interesting architecture of the original 1900 building is lost to a terrible remodel. The adjacent attached unit is in rough shape but closer to original so better imo. I mean no disrespect it helps me connect to the victim.

Right! Cause that's what mothers do. They will gladly bear the brunt of the beating if it means protecting their child. Darisabels mother said she didn't intervene because she was afraid Harve would turn on her. Uh, good! At least he wouldn't be directing the abuse toward Darisabel. It just infuriates me. She worried about her own ass over her daughters and to top it off she was pregnant by this monster. Hopefully that child is somewhere in a loving safe environment.
Kudos to you for protecting your child as all mothers should.

That was not going to happen...I don't know if he would have beaten or just smacked ...but he had started yelling at and threatening to spank her. He told me he wouldn't really do it but wanted to scare her into listening to him...not sure why he thought that was ok either! Needless to say...we aren't together anymore. Thank you for the upload, Dear Laine 🙏🙏🙏🙏
What a tragic story. I never can understand how a mother can sit back and watch or hear their child get beat. I was once in an abusive relationship and stayed way too long but what convinced me that it was time to go is when I suffered a very rough beating that included a box cutter to my throat (allegedly bladeless box cutter -per the douchebag) in front of my then 8-year-old, and when he went to grab anything he could (one of a pair of crutches) to try to save his mom my douchebag ex turned around and took off towards him. Thank God our roommate, and my best friend at the time, was there and coming down to try to stop it and just happen to collide with him, unfortunately breaking her ankle, but luckily stopping him from getting to my child, who swiftly got away and called the police. But that was it for me. Just the thought of what COULD have happened shook me to my core and still bothers me to this day as I'm getting an anxiety attack just thinking about it.
Literally just THINKING about what COULD have happened.
And yet there's mothers out there like this beautiful child's excuse for a birth giver who stand by and watch their child get beaten to death, having not one care in the world. Not one ounce of anxiety. Not one panicked gasp of worry.
I like you hope she's a better parent to her son but in my eyes she'll always be a pathetic, worthless, waste of space.
I hope that karma truely brings her A-game to that woman...

As someone who’s been there, it’s not as easy leaving an abusive relationship as those who’ve never experienced it tend to think it is. Believe me, I have my own regrets. "Don't interfere or it'll get worse" has to be one of the most often believed lies out there.
It might buy a short reprieve for a time - sometimes - but a coward who feels so powerless as to make such a threat to their supposed 'loved ones' IS GOING TO ESCALATE, with or without interference.
It's never about 'punishment' or 'discipline'. It's about the abusers' perceived lack of control - which ultimately has very little to do with their victim(s).
Obviously victims should be smart about how to escape / seek help, etc..... but relying on meeting every whim of the abuser & 'just keeping the peace' to prevent harm is supremely naiive.
    - Not only because demands will probably escalate, but more importantly?
...because doing so is relying on the benevolence of a person who has already proven themselves to be malicious, to ensure your safety. Madness.

And made her stand there from 5:30 in the morning til whenever they woke up... which had to be hours 🤯 Guaranteed they made her go to bed at like 6 or 7pm to avoid watching her, then got mad when she inevitably woke up super early. Also, whipping a baby's torso with what's essentially an electric cord is not 'a spanking"

It makes me sick how often the abuser of the deceased child claims the child hurt themselves somehow. Then when it's clear that nobody is buying that they claim it was somebody else who did it. Then they say the child was naughty, so naughty they were forced to "punish" them. Like, stop being a cowardly POS & own up to what you did! The evidence is telling all your secrets to anybody who sees it. Especially those who have made it their lives works seeking justice for children like Darisabel.
You don't punish 2 year olds like that! For God's sake... You don't "discipline" ANY child like that. But, especially not a 2 year old. She was practically still a baby... poor baby... Rest in peace sweet girl... They didn't get away with it, we won't let them get away with it.

I understand the pastor is just trying to help, but expecting something like that to fix sick, abusive, pedos/abusers is absolutely ridiculous. Especially considering many child abusers use religion to do so. The only thing that’s going to fix those people is either intensive therapy, or prison where they can’t harm anyone. This is why parenting classes are often useless when it comes to families like this involved with CPS. Almost anyone with a room temperature IQ and basic common sense *knows* how to treat a child, even if they were raised in an abusive home. The difference between those that improve and those that don’t (which is the majority) is whether they *choose* to treat the child well.
I mainly treat younger people with eating disorders, but I’ve had two patients who came to me on their own with thoughts of hurting children because I also specialize in OCD treatment. There are definitely people who have these thoughts, but understand that they’re wrong and want to get rid of them. One of them I still see weekly but has no more desire to harm children, and one still does but is actively considering chemical castration among other treatments to attempt to stop the thoughts, though their guilt over the thoughts themselves is so immense, I don’t believe they could actually do it without probably attempting to take their own life afterward. They have no access to kids nor have they ever harmed them, and they’re actively pursuing treatments and call me literally any time they have bad thoughts. These kind of people do exist, they know their thoughts are wrong and they’re desperate for help. But due to the nature of child physical/sexual abuse, most don’t get that. Religion can’t save those kinds of people, I’m sorry. No matter how hard you try.

Unfortunately these pastors do more harm than good....the naiveté of that fool is beyond reasonable thinking. These child abusers are warped and twisted mainly due to generational abuse or control issues. Turning to God to save them is laughable....we have to keep our own counsel not rely on crutches.

What's really scary to me was hearing that she was pregnant! People like this shouldn't be allowed to procreate! If you have no patience, you shouldn't have children! If you put a man child before your own offspring, then you don't deserve to be a mother! If mentally and emotionally you are still very immature, or you're using drugs, then do not get pregnant!! Having a baby does not make you a grown up! I get so disgusted with these single mothers who cannot be alone so they have a boyfriend move in with them and allow them to abuse their child. The mother is just as guilty. I'm sure by now jailhouse justice has been served once they all found out what his crime was. May this beautiful little angel R.I.P. She is definitely in a better place than with these worthless scumbags.

even if there’s lots of smiling pics and being sweet in Facebook videos etc.. it’s both victim and abuser basically overcompensating .. the child with love and hugs to the abuser so they don’t get hit again and the abuser overcompensates acting loving to the child on social media or in front of ppl

I guarantee more than half the country would vote to make a death sentence mandatory for child murderers, so why isn't it? Why aren't those sentenced to death actually executed? They've been deemed by society to have revoked their life.
I also believe more than half would agree there needs to be harsher punishment for CAs. The only reason for not protecting the innocent that I can see is that most people in power are CAs themselves or sympathize with them. What else explains it?

I’m only 7:36 minutes into the video, and my blood is already starting to boil. Punishing Darisabel, by standing in the corner for hours, because she woke up early has to be the most ridiculous thing EVER!!
Young children, especially 2 year old children, wake up early, because they’re either hungry, wet, or they want to watch their favorite cartoon.
A loving parent would have either gotten up to feed their child, turned on the tv, changed their diaper, or brought them into their own bed to snuggle with. A loving mother would have NEVER allowed her new flavor of the month to lay a hand on their sweet little angel, or to dish out punishments. How could ANY mother, or father - for that matter, allow a grown man to put his hands on their small child?? Many laws, across America, were passed, in the late 80s, protecting children from being abused!! When I was growing up, during the 70s and 80s, there were no laws protecting children from abuse. None!!! It wasn’t a big deal seeing a parent whipping their child in a store, in a park, or wherever. People would just keep walking, but they continued to watch a child getting their ass beat. They didn’t say anything to the parent, and they certainly didn’t attempt to intervene.
Neighbors could hear a child screaming and crying from getting beaten, but they didn’t dare to call the police. The neighbor figured that the child must’ve done something to get beaten. I know that to be true because neighbors heard my younger sister and myself screaming and crying in pain, from getting our asses beaten with an homemade paddle, and they never called the police, or our paternal grandpa.
The neighbors knew that we were getting beaten because of something that my sister had said or done, because they’d hear the both of us get beaten; yet, they knew that I had said or done something wrong, because only I was beaten. I was blamed for many things that my sister had said and done, because I was able to take the beating.
My mom (RIP) didn’t have a choice. We lived with a male family member who brainwashed her into believing that if she went to go stay with another family member, then they’d hand us back over to my dad, and she was absolutely terrified of him. He made her believe that he’d love my sister and myself as though we were his own biological daughters. That went out the window 6 months later. He made sure that my mom had no other place to go by that time, and he knew that my mom didn’t have a high school diploma, a job, a car, money saved, and she was on public assistance. That’s when he told her that if she intervened with the discipline, she’d be kicked out, along with her daughters, and where would she go, who would take her in, how would she get somewhere, etc. She reluctantly agreed. She had NO idea that her agreeing to let him handle the discipline would result in abuse.
He didn’t only abuse us physically, but also mentally, emotionally and psychologically (mostly me than my sister).
We (my sister and myself) were made to believe that our paternal grandpa wanted nothing to do with us, and he went as far as to disown us. So, we didn’t contact him. If we had, our grandpa would have taken him on a one-way car ride.
I had forgiven him. I had to in order to move on, and not have that blacken my heart and soul, like my sister. The day before my mom passed away, she asked me for forgiveness for not protecting me from the abuse, and for placing blame on me for what my sister had done. I told her there wasn’t anything to forgive her for, because I was well-aware of the situation. Plus, she was the very best mom that any daughter could dream of having, could ever wish for, and could have had. I meant every single word.
My heart breaks when a child dies from being abused, tortured, neglected, starved, raped, and other deplorable things. I just want to grab them through my phone, and give them a huge hug and tell them that everything was going to be okay. I also want to spend 5 minutes alone with the abuser, and give them a dose of what they had done to that child. I couldn’t have any children of my own, but I’ll do whatever in my power to protect them. Children are a true gift from God, and they SHOULD be protected, loved, adored, cared for/about, have patience with, and to mold them into becoming a very productive person in society.
May Darisabel fly high with the other little cherubs in Heaven, and may she rest peacefully in her eternal slumber.

Truth hurts, your family failed Darisabel, maybe having her story out there will keep it from happening to another innocent child. Hope your family is keeping a close eye on her POS mother and making sure she doesn't let another innocent child to die because she doesn't want to get hurt herself. I can't believe she was allowed to keep any children she had after allowing a man to beat her baby to death for waking up early.

I get qhat you mean but it always rubs me the wrong way when you say you want to dedicate yourself full time to making money off of the suffering of children. Ya know? Esp when half of the video is just you reading what everyone says and then playing the clip so it's very repetitive.

    • @SuffertheLittleChildrenPodcast
      @SuffertheLittleChildrenPodcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Wow.
As I’ve said (and, I believe, proven) in the past, I’m not looking to “profit” or get rich by telling these stories. Ideally, I want to continue giving these kids the respect they deserve while also feeding my own children, and I can’t do that if I have to go back to work full-time. That’s why for now, I’m living off my dwindling savings, humbly asking for support, and hoping for the best.
The clip in question was 5-6 minutes in total; I was up till 5:00am this morning editing it down to what I felt were the most powerful parts, which was agonizing, because the whole documentary is heart-wrenching. As for playing two brief clips from Harve’s police interview and then quoting it again, I wanted to give the general flavor of his tone, but it was next to impossible to understand what he actually said, hence my repeating it. (I learned my lesson after my Caliyah McNabb episodes, which left people wondering what her mush-mouth father was saying.)
The vast majority of the episode was my own wording using a dozen+ sources with some direct quotes interspersed, but it’s not my place to try to change your mind.
I just wish people would truly try to put themselves in others’ shoes before making unnecessarily snarky comments. Oh, well.

I haven’t heard of a majority of these cases and it’s very eye opening when we hear about judges giving a slap on the wrist for elongated torture/abuse of children.
You sound like you just don’t want these cases to have a voice , when these men and women are living their best lives and they should have been handed death or life sentences. “ItS tAbOo” it needs to be acknowledged!

It would take a lot of your time and effort to go research all of the information she gives in every episode.
