@Reaper lethal Where do you live? India was first a victim of Islam for hundreds of years and then the British. Before the British arrived in India, Indians had about 25% of all the worlds trade. By the time the British left 90 years later [1857-1947] it was less than 4%. Shashi Tharoor had done a very famous speech at the Oxford [University] Union on this. This was much discussed later th-cam.com/video/f7CW7S0zxv4/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/JMNkfQwkRC4/w-d-xo.html Please to watch this for your own information they are well worth watching.
It is estimated that Britain robbed India of around £45 000,000,000,000 ie 45 Trillion pounds. The British siphoned this money off back to Britain to use for their own purposes. The Muslim Sultans and Mughals however decided to stay in India probably because they didn't want to go back to the deserts from where they had escaped. I'd be pleased to hear from you and thank you for an interest in this topic.

The angle Mr Elst has taken is interesting.
Don't demonize the missionaries, but defeat them at their own game, in this case their belief system. But sadly most of the Hindus who are converted are economically vulnerable and promise of aid is a big motivator. They are also naive about their own religion. Our temples need to change, they need to support some form of the gurukul system which was destroyed under colonialism.

You have to understand that Christianity and Islam are NOTHING before our Dharma ... the former were created to exert control over the masses. Dharma wants one to come out of all conditioning. Dharma wants one to look within and realize our true nature. Dharma is unconcerned about controlling people.
And we can always acknowledge the good in the other (I like the Good Shepherd) ... but I will never support Abrahamics' clerical system and their absolutism aka arrogance. Suffocating lots.

Meditation is not cup of tea of those who are not wealthy and have not satisfied their body and Mind. Most of the Indians belong to medium and poor family. They can't do meditation as Buddha or Mahavir did as they were Prince and had everything. Christianity is taking advantage of the poorness of Indians as Poor person always expect magic, a magic that can change his life. This is the simple formula.

Missionaries started their work in India some 5 centuries ago but they met with little success. Even during the colonial era the british were not keen on letting missionaries upset the system and thereby depriving them of the cash cow that was India. Only after India's independence and after a seven decade long congress rule have the missionaries achieved their goal of converting entire states in the northeast into christianity. Even in the southern states of Andhra, Tamilnadu and Kerala the last 20 years has seen an aggressive posture by the church in converting almost half of the dalit population to christianity. This was aided and funded by the US government as state policy under the JOSHUA PROJECT. So what Dr Koenraad Elst says about the christians wanting to convert the hindus out of love is only partially true. There is much more to church conversions nowadays, it is part of GEOPOLITICS game played by the US government. How else would you explain all the church sponsored protests of the koodankulam nuclear power plant, and many other protests before the 2019 lok sabha elections.

      That's right
Firstly man fighting on religion is a no no. People should live in harmony with each other as we all come from the same place and we all go to the same place.
      .
Christians pethaps feel hinduism created the trinity Gods B V and M and other dieties which weren't there before. That said it was India's private business of what to do and not.
      This they termed as idols.
The original first rig veda only had the golden egg concept or hiranya garbha or prajapathi. Swayambhu was the self existent God and prajapathi was his first born thru which everythjng was made.
      .
Rig veda 10.90 also talks about Purusa the primodoral cosmic man.and prajapathi who sacrifices himself for Brahman or whatever and his pieces live in animals and man..and the entire universe..
Prajapati wanted this sacrifice to be remembered n repeated by man....
      Read on..
      www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Prajapati
May be christianity borrowed Prajapathi or Purusa as Jesus the sacrificed lamb.
However, no connection was as important as that made in the Brahmanas between Prajapati and Purusha, the primordial cosmic man. In Rg Veda 10.90, Purusha is credited with an immense act of self-sacrifice that brought the world into being. Like Purusha, Prajapati is also said to have sacrificed himself, resulting in the various divisions of empirical reality. Most importantly, his constituents became brahman, the sacred verbal power that was thought to mitigate the cleavage between human beings and the divine, and consequently became the lynchpin of all Vedic sacrifice. The remainder of Prajapati's constituents dispersed to create gods, humans, animals, and the rest of the phenomenal world. Thus, Prajapati gained his initial significance in the sacrificial drama. The Vedas insisted humans must must repeat this original primordial sacrificial event regularly in order to renew all aspects of space and time that Prajapati had originally put into place by way of his self-immolation.
The last line says the sacrifice needs to be repeated. That's the holy mass in churches perhaps to commemorate the sacrifice of Purusa or Prajapati..
Temples perhaps remember the others Gods n goddesses rather than prajapathi. So Christian's hijacked prajapathi perhaps???????
One has to be true or both false.
      Truth cannot be two..

  • @ganeshav2768
    @ganeshav2768 5 ปีที่แล้ว +71

It is a little too much to glorify the missionaries as acting out of love. Human beings mostly act out of self interest , and in this case it is about improving one's chance to go to heaven. India interests them because of its huge non Christian population. In hindus they find a soft target. Why don't they convert the Muslims in India and other developing countries? Colonialism helped them with huge lands and network in India. They get huge funds from abroad for the specific object of converting. It is not charity per se but a subtle bargain.
This aspect of their religion cannot stand the test of modern thinking about the role of religion in individual and social realms. Europe and US are seeing a significant reduction in church goers. The land if its origin viz middle East is predominantly Muslim. Christianity in reality got a fillip as a political ideology associated with Roman emperor Constantine, and saw its growth phase with active state sponsorship until the middle ages. With renaissance, this narrowly focused religion was challenged in Europe and it has never been same thereafter.
Infact , East India company resented missionaries following them as it would cause more headache to them in managing business with natives. The British crown eventually saw an opportunity to brainwash natives through conversion and make them dis-own their indian origin and identity. That was a clever way to perpetuate colonial rule without having to put any significant number of Britishers on ground to rule a large country like India. Exaggeration of casteism , imposing a biased educational curriculum etc were the other tricks done with the same end objective. The Christians who settled 2000 years ago in Malabar were not into proselytising. Then why this later entrants made conversion their mission.
It is time our constitution circumscribes the scope of freedom to propagate religion by banning any act amounting to proselytising, including targeting of young minds attending schools run by Jesuits. These schools will offer same curricula as any other school . It is a different matter that an individual after due study of religion wishes to convert of his own volition. In sum, India must clearly convey that fundamental right to religion cannot extend to denigrating other religions or actively converting others as these acts cannot be religious acts as understood in modern times

Hmmm, having written a book on religion called "A Way Beyond Religion," (which is on Amazon) I can say I know a little bit about this subject. Christianity probably got a home in India long before it did in Europe even, with the arrival of the Apostle Thomas (Saint Thomas) and there is a Church in Chennai and even a hill called St. Thomas Mount, over which planes fly to land at the airport. When the Portuguese Catholics arrived in the 15th century they were horrified to discover this ancient Christianity. They went about trying their best to destroy Thomas Christianity, calling them heretics. The Catholics then brought the brutal Inquisition to India, mainly to Goa. They tortured and killed our Hindus, particularly Brahmins, if they refused to convert. The British were more gentle, relatively speaking, but they also tried very hard to destroy Hindu culture and belief. So much so people like Nehru became so westernized that Nehru was kind of ashamed of being a Hindu, really. The Congress party while seemingly "secular" was not supportive of Hinduism at all. The overwhelming success of the BJP has revealed how badly Indians think about the corrupt sick Congress party. Their leaders have drained vast amounts of money out of India in to Swiss and other accounts.
Anyhow, the heart of Christian belief is the idea of SALVATION. Which means to be "Saved" from the fires of hell. They believe that only a total belief and surrender to their Lord Jesus Christ can lead to salvation. Muslims believe that surrender to Allah is necessary to be saved from the fires of hell. In recent times the Hindu Swami Narayan movement claims that there is no salvation without surrender to Lord Krishna according to their Shikshapatri. (obviously they did their homework first, and learned the lessons of Christianity). Such madness in religion.
Whereas most of us Hindus are kept totally ignorant of the profound, magnificent teachings of our Vedas particularly the Upanishads. There is ONE magnificent mind/energy that pervades the universe, and you and I are tiny fragments of that. We can be secure in that feeling, that there is no hellfire or damnation. Our souls (aathma) are immortal and indestructible; our souls may choose to come back in another human form or they may not. This subject would take an entire book to discuss so I'll stop there.
Most of Europe has pretty much rejected Christianity. In the USA, Christians have become more radicalized, leading to the election of Trump and his anti-Muslim beliefs. They, with the political power of the Republican party, want to make America Christian. "Make America Great Again" implies "Make America Christian Again." And bring Bibles into schools and government offices, which has been prohibited since the declaration of Independence. This is a movement of desperation, as people are leaving their churches in huge numbers. Which is why they are desperate to spread the religion in the rest of the world.

Well Sir. Your research is commendable. Brahman is eternal and unchangeable. But under the influence of Maya the individual soul believes itself to be the body it's put in.
Hence this world is existent. Swarga and narka and the process of transmigration.
The shastras of sanatana dharma are very transparent, at least in this regard. Upanishads are very lofty and difficult to comprehend. Especially to one not on the path of moksha. Which is almost everyone.

This is a very generous view of evangelism given what Christianity has done to the countries of Africa, South America, Philippines. Those are terrible advertisements for Christianity. Churchianity is the more apt title for that so-called "religion". It has been just a greedy power grab since the Councils of Nicaea that twisted the original teachings of Jesus to suit the Roman Empire and now the Vatican.

Once there was a Bird of golden wings that was flying high and shining like a bright star in the night sky emitting knowledge and spiritual wellness. Dark forces could not resist looking at this great bird, they saw a golden bird decided to steal gold from its wings. The bird fought bravely for centuries but was repeatedly attacked for gold in its feathers. But fools could not see the Knowledge it is spreading for the well-being of humankind. So they kept attacking and robbing this bird. Few people who understood that knowledge is more valuable than gold took whatever knowledge they were able to copy and translated it to their language and then the same knowledge got copied many times by other people in the world but whatever knowledge they copied was just a spec of dust compared to the knowledge the bird itself could have given to humankind. But a great bird fought to protect its knowledge even when it lost the gold because it knew that Knowledge is more important than its golden feathers as with knowledge it can grow its golden feathers again one day. One who understands its value understand the secrets of life, death, and entire existence and supreme soul.

      That's right bro.

People will continue to evolve and there is no end to it.. People will change religion if they want. Information is flowing freely and there is no need for anyone to seek converts. If anyone wants to change his religion or faith, no force on this Earth can stop it. So such laws expose the insecurity of some people.. People are no longer restricted by narrow domestic walls. Well, 99% of Christian converts have nothing improved their lifestyle. We call them ricebag converts for trolling. They were they people who are still living in poverty after converting. And regarding discrimination. Even if they convert to Christian still they would be discriminated by religion. The remedy I would suggest is to be a vairagi(un attached person). Accept what is there in your fate gracefully and desire for higher spiritual realms. We have no command on how people treat us but only on how we handle them. Because all successful people do this.

I don't agree that converting arises from "best of intentions". It is all about money, power and control. The reason why the Church is spending so much effort of conversion in India is that Hinduism presents the greatest long-term threat to Christianity (and Islam) and their agents with vested interests. As more people get educated and start inquiring and thinking about other religions, they will see the fallacies of Christianity (and Islam). In the West, the first step will be to become atheists. But this will not last long, as the they will eventually try to find answers to the mysteries of life and will turn to spirituality and seek answers from other religions. In Hinduism, they will be astonished at how profound the Upanishads and other texts are, and how the ancient rishis have applied logical construction to arrive at their conclusions, in a manner that would even make Plato blush. In Hinduism, they will find a religion that does not contradict science and in fact promotes it. They will begin to like an approach to life that combines humanity, regard for other creatures and environment, spirituality, physical and mental well-being and free thinking spirit in a completely a completely wholesome unit.

Swarga or heaven has never been the goal! the goal has always been consciousness or Nirvana or Kaivalya or Moksha or simply put- Freedom. This is reason why you'd see Shiva meditating most of the time! Coming to the snake now- Snakes are wonderful beings and tend to be pretty sensitive to vibrations. If your energies tend to vibrate in higher vibrations, snakes would not be looked at with fear but would be attracted towards you. This is true both on physical and ethereal planes. A person who is in Samadhi tends to be gaurded by the snake-the most poisonous one in that. Allegorically, it means that once you are conscious you could confront your fears(which a snake symbolizes) and be pretty comfortable with it.

It's TRUE that the common Christian believes he/ she is doing it for the good of others. They believe it is their duty to bring others into Christianity and that somehow if they do it, Jesus would be very happy with them and their place in heaven would be secured.
The key question is : " Who is responsible for brainwashing them this?" What is the motive of that key committee who has this created this belief system in the common catholic masses and sent them out like disguised armies to spread their tentacles.
Surely their motive is not so noble. This is a thought out strategy .... to get soft ( as against military ) power over the people!
Formal, structured and congregation-demanding religions of such kind are aimed at gaining crowd acquiescence. Compare this to hinduism that relies largely on your own inner awakening ascended privately / militarily in meditation. Between the 2 scenarios which do you think would lead to better political mileage for a leader?

Answer is simple, the pastors and Bishops are having a field day living off the donations given by the common folks. Besides they have Nuns available at their beck and call. Interesting angle. I studied in a Christian school and also have known many for over 25 years. Not once did either the missionaries in the school or people I know every try to suggest conversion. Rather there was always mutual respect and mutual celebration of festivals like Diwali and Christmas. I have also been reading up on different histories out of academic interest, and interestingly the concept of Karma is also there in Christianity. The iconography of the halo around the head of religious figures comes from Mithraism which was an ancient Indo-Persian religion. The mainstream churches no longer seek to convert. There is also a lot of interfaith discussions that happen. A Hindu can marry a Christian and continue to remain a Hindu. Given the current global demographic trends, it is essential for Hindus and Christians to understand each other and work together. This is probably also the thinking in the US with President Trump reaching out to PM Modi with so much affection. The people who try to convert are from new fangled sects and go by different names. Ironically these sects are shunned by the mainstream Churches and even by missionary schools. The general Catholic or Christian population respect and are also a lot more comfortable with Hindus rather than any other religion. This has been my experience and I believe we should live and let live in harmony.

Christianity is one way of attaining salvation or living life.
Hinduism has purposely gone polytheistic from monotheistic. This could be to maintain a significant identity of the civilisation which formed the centre of the world. They had good roads climate mountains rivers soil etc. People migrated from all over to this side of river Sindhu. Those migrated from eastern europeans parts and western Asia perhaps couldnt say S of Sindhu so they called it Indu. Gradually it became Hindu.
Meanwhile some of the sages meditated in the mountains for years apparently and brought down 4 vedas..
The first rig veda didnt have caste system and didnt have the 3 trinity Gods Brahma Vishnu maheshwara. It only had the self existent God harinyagarbha from whom came the first born prajapati through whom all things came.
Thus perhaps began the extra multiple Gods stories temples etc..
The abrahamic religions only believe in the creator God..and his Angel's.
Even God couldnt trust his angels as one of them deceived God himself.
So he cast away one third of his angels down..
      To earth.
Christian's feel that these angels are now part of satan's team spreading wrong things, instigating wrong things in peoples mind etc..
They also feel some must have mated with humans and this some idols we see are weird. Multiple hands etc. But that's a myth. Dont take it seriously.

With all due respect sir, it’s the poorer and bottom social structure people that convert. It’s not the upper social echelon or upper caste that convert. The Indian social structure and cast system is oppressive. Christianity makes them feel like an individual being loved by god. Christianity can be a stepping stone to progress. A lot of Christians fled the oppressive European social structure to make it on their own merit in America. like all religions it wants your money and voting power. There will be a time in the near future where there will be little or no religion... I hope.
