My 80 year old eyes can barely see the front of the aircraft let alone the difference! Seriously though, FS2020 is now very stable and looks good enough for me as I fly around all the small Scottish islands in my trusty Beech Barron delivering their mail. 😊
I used to do similar in the king air on FSX. I’m still in the 172 in FS2020 as I just love it. I’d prefer it to have old gauges though and no GPS. Fly everything by VOR and NDB 😊
The 2 biggest things I notice immediately in 2024 for me is the 3D trees, they are wonderful, I love them, and the dingy yellowish tinted look of 2020 is gone, so 2024 default looks much more natural to me.
Perhaps it is my old eyes, but I thought the close up scenery looked better in FS2020 especially later in the video. Interesting video to watch thanks.
@@Huddison True.... seems to me that if it is that hard to tell the difference they must be pretty similar with one being better in one area and the other in another area perhaps.
Looks good to me, London in 2020 for me is mostly a post-apocalypse horror zone with no water under the bridges and traffic driving under the roads. I generally steer clear of London.
Someone needs to take a set of identically framed stills in 2020 and 2024 then put them up side by side and see how many viewers can tell which one is which. I am guessing it would be a tough quiz.
I've been over London a couple of times in 2024 and from flying distance, I thought it looked more detailed than 2020. The taller buildings seemed cleaner, with straighter sides based purely on my eyesight. I didn't get close enough to say one way or the other beyond that. Of course, it could be something as simple as the improved lighting.
@@HuddisonIt's a fact because you probably have "dynamic" ticked in graphics setting this means 2024 is overriding your resolution and settings on the fly to achieve better framerate
I love flying over London in both sims, especially since they fixed it in 2020. It was terrible before the update. For some reason I’m fascinated by the Gherkin. Maybe someday I’ll get there IRL, but I’m not holding my breath. That’s my favorite thing about the sim - I can see places I’ll never get to see IRL.
I think both look absolutely amazing but 2024 just has a more realistic colour for me. I've lived in East London my entire life and worked opposite London City Airport and in the city for many years so know it and the surrounding area very well and they have done an incredible job to get it looking like they have.
On Series X the 2024 version definitely more detailed in city sceneries too. This depends on streaming speeds, but now way better than in launch situation. Since few day they add a better AA and the image quality looks very good now.
What I have notcied is that for big cities like London, Paris, New York City, Tokoyo, Barcelona, and cities like that you need to turn of photogrammetry if you are playing on the Series X. If you dont it looks absolutely awful and you experience alot of glitches(flickering, shimmering) even if you have 500 Mbps wired download speed. And then for scenic things like the Grand Canyon you want to turn photogrammetry on to make it look the best.
First thing I notice straight away is the colour of the Thames, it's spot on for the very first time in any simulator. That really seals the deal for me right there. It is real. The rest of the scenery is very organic and the colours seem more natural. It is more believable. In FS2020 the river is almost black like ink, totally, totally not like that all. The colour palette is just generally yellowish, even the clouds look yellow. The more I see of 2024 the more accurate it looks. Give it a few months and it'll look stunning, once they fine tune it. 2024 is the winner. I never thought I'd say that last week.
HMS Belfast appears to be part of the Orbx Landmarks London City Pack. I've disabled that in MSFS 2024 and I have the two cruise boats there again like in MSFS 2020.
@Huddison you know what I expected was the whole game engine to download along with backgrounds and cut scenes and planes and then it to stream in very very high quality tiles that I would keep and gradually build up a high Res version of the world around where I do my flying instead they choose to stream everything and not very well and instead of me gradually building up the world around me it streams every time which might be great for a console not so great if your running high end pc with plenty of storage, I mainly flew in south west England so it was a huge download to download high red for whole of UK when I only used a corner of it so I can get that they had complaints about download times I really thought this time it would be different by just downloading the tiles you actually use
Another great vid. mate. I think 2020 looked quite a bit sharper tbh; even though I love bush and VFR flying and the ground physics and countryside scenery and trees are clearly superior, it's still not enough yet for me to give up my Savage Graavel amongst other addons (I'm only able to afford the standard version, so no Norden for me :)). Btw, finally picked up the comanche 250 for £28 in the marketplace, Xmas pressie to myself, can I ask if you've tried it in 2024 and if so does it work? Cheers.
I see more detail in 2024 compared to 2020. I see smoke stacks and radio towers that I've never seen before. I play triple screen and the performance is way better, too!
Lighting in ms2024 makes a big difference but no two days are the same using xbox x hopefully when the streaming settles down 2024 will run great on Xbox only then I will be able to decide what looks best this is why I’m holding off buying a pc,great video
Someone mentioned in social media that Paris looked horrendous like the second or third day after release. I was thinking to myself that maybe they had slow internet or something. I flew to Paris and parts of it looked horrendous. I decided to check out London and parts seemed to look a lot worse compared to Los Angeles area. I figured they just didn't put in all the assets in from 2020. It might have been since the sim was still wonky those first few days. Some of my third-party scenery mods from places like Orbx are now ready for downloading and I know they will make things look even better.
Just a few min in. Wow the runway graphics. So much better than my series x. Ok so just at the bit by Tower Bridge. Oh wow. My series x has never looked this good. You can get such good performance with a £700 pc 😳
2024 has more atmosphere so it seems to have less contrast between sunlight and shade on a building. 2020 seems sharper with less atmospheric effects. 2020 seems to have more color as well.
Shadows are more realistic in 24. Now let's land on a remote island and get out and walk around, as ive done. Oh wait a min, we can't even do that in 2020 and even if we could, 24 is far superior. In the end, the graphics overall are much improved in 24 in most areas ive flown around.
I'm brand new to MSFS. Started about 5 days ago and taking in a lot. But overall the graphics are very disappointing. Playing with PC with plenty of power. For example, I was really excited to do the Budapest Discovery Flight since I just visited there. All the buildings look like they're made of mud. Tried it several times and no improvement. Any fixes?
Has it ever been highlighted what the Internet connecting requirements are for 2024? Obviously faster is better but ping and packet loss as well plays a big part. Seems odd that I've read comments from people that on the surface appear to have faster connections than me but are much less happy with the performance.
Looks fab....ps I have an Xbox and cannot use the mouse it just spins and spins when using it ..the view that is so I need some mouse settings as u are the expert...cheers Ed
That's weird. I'm on the Xbox too and can use the mouse fine. Did it work OK in 2020? It I'm not sure if they've done anything since release but it definitely feels better and acts smoother than when I installed the sim last week.
The different opinions of people are so strange. I thought it looked perfectly fine while I was watching. Always makes me wonder if everyone is watching in the same quality. I know I often have to manually adjust the quality setting on TH-cam videos to get the highest option.
This is a dream. But I have a limited 50 MB internet connection and get online streaming turned off. So I will certainly stick to the old 2020 for some time.
If you're going to do a side-by-side comparison, you need to show the SAME thing on the left and right, otherwise it's not a comparison is it? Nevertheless, I do agree that the lighting and water under bridges looks better in 2024, and yes it does seem to be popping more, but the general scenery just looks the same to me. What bothers me more is has the stuttering reduced? That was easily the worst aspect of flying over London in 2020. I had a test flight that I did numerous time to try and optimise my performance in 2020, which was London City to Heathrow in the Fenix, at 4k, on my i9 13900k with a 4080. I ALWAYS had a massive stutter as I did a left turn just past Canary Wharf to head towards the approach to path to 27L, and then I would get another big one around the time I turned onto the localizer (in the Battersea area), and then 2 or 3 more on short final. I tried about 50 different combinations of settings and adding/removing addons and I could never get rid of those stutters, but the Orbx landmarks were definitely not helping, and neither was iniBuilds EGLL.

The warmer tones sure show up in FS2020 when watching a side by side comparison.

The improved lighting plays a big part for sure.
You should really turn on dev mode and click the show framerate setting to show performance
Not sure if it's just the video but the original MSFS2020 looks more crisp than the slightly blurry and aliased MSFS2024.

The ground scenery would be the only reason I'd get 2024, and it doesn't look good enough to warrant the cost. Not yet anyway.
I got 2024 for the Career mode. Its awesome, always dreamed about something like this in MSFS settings.
For now I prefer 2020, but hopefully that'll change over time.
