Is there a formula to dynamically track the visible rows after sorting and totaling them? I have a Transaction sheet with 10 rows of data. When I sort I want the items in the Amount column to get totaled and placed in The Grand Totals column. Is right now is it's adding ALL Amounts and displaying it in the Totals and if I sort but another criteria the Grand Total stays the same instead of changing to only what is showing.
IS there a way to use the filter function directly in the data validation range (So without making a separate list first)? I need to make a lot of cells with data validation and they each require there own filtered input list.
Is there a way to do this without having the header lists? I'm making a cost/estimate sheet and followed through this so that I can select a Material in one drop down, then a filtered material type in the next column, these then lookup the cost of the material so I can calculate the cost. This all worked but I need multiple lines of this which if I follow this method I'll need sets of the header lists for each material row I add.
James, this will work totally fine without headers stated in the formula (or any other headers). Just use it without {}, like this: =FORMULA(). The whole case is built on referring to specific cells or sets of values. You can build unlimited levels of options this way. You can also experiment with pulling the needed headers using FILTER formula (see additional tutorials about it in our channel). Hope this helps.

I have to add apostrophes (') at the beginning and at the end of a column name, I have to use a semicolon (;) instead of a comma (,) for the separation of two columns range in the filter formula. Do you have any idea why the syntax is different for me?
Thanks a lot for your comment. The syntax is different because of the locale selected. We present our examples using the US locale. You can check yours in File -> Spreadsheet Settings -> Locale.

While using data validation, the logic is next: 1 cell contains 1 value. It is tricky in GSheets (compared to Airtable or other tools where you can choose multiple options in a single cell). You can also try using JOIN to connect the needed options by a "," . But then you should select each option separately first, and join those in a different cell.

For example we have yyyy-mm-dd, then my serial number will be yymm001 (year, month and 3 digits in sequence). How can we automate to see the full number YYMM001 when we only enter 001? If that helps find a solution - I have a date column in my table Thank you in advance.
Peter, this is a way to pull a customized range of values. You can use A:C to pull A,B,C columns. But you can't pull only A and C columns this way. {A:A,C:C} resolves this issue. Also, place those in any order you want and choose between vertical and horizontal placement {C:C;A:A} or {D:D,A:A}. We also use these to put headers and formula outputs in the same cell (see our other tutorials for that).
