Two 2x6” in the bed pockets across the bed and set it up ACROSS the bed behind the cab. The two end of the cot rest on the truck fenders….frees up lots of room in the box
Can you film how you close the tailgate with the Kamp-Rite tent cot on the truck bed? Have you considered sliding your construction towards either of the long sides of the box, so you could get in/out easier, and also have better access to storage underneath the tent? Have you thought about just clamping a cut-to-size sheet of plywood to the tailgate, with the stops the way you have them now, to prevent the tent form moving?
As I have it set up not, you don't close the tailgate once the tent is open and in the bed (I don't travel with the tent open) As far as positioning it, I'm not sure if I showed it in the video or mentioned it but I've been pushing the setup to one side of the bed for more room. I have a trail edition with the bed storage boxes installed so that takes up some of the room in the bed but a stock Tacoma bed would have a lot more room to move around than what you see in my video. Even with the bed boxes I still have access to all the storage underneath the tent from the side of the tent and from the tailgate. My original plan was to pretty much do exactly that, just make a piece that extended the tailgate my a few inches (which would honestly work in a pinch) but after test fitting it, I realized it wouldn't be completely flat/level and more importantly moved around while getting in/sleeping in the tent. I added all of the cleats to eliminate movement and also keep the tent rigid in the way it was meant to be used. I have a feeling if you continually used the tent where the joints were all out of spec, you'll slowly wreck it/it'll become loose and not work as well. Realistically if you were okay with transporting and storing it, a full sheet of plywood cut to size with the same cleats I have is probably a solid choice. These are just easier to transport and store for me. I've used it a few times already this summer and will probably get a few more nights in on it this fall so if you have any more questions lmk and ill do a follow up video at the end of the season.
That's a good question. If you're willing to forgo the "cot" feature (I'm sure a mattress similar to the roof top tents have would work fine) I think you could make that work with some testing. Besides securing it so it doesn't move around my main concern would be the two tent supports. When the kamprite is usually setup you only need to use the 2 poles to keep the tent portion rigid. My concern would be that some of that rigidity/support comes from the lower portion/legs/and tension straps. Definitely worth a try though.

Bingo
Smart idea, you can even put a bed gazibo over and be super cool. 😎
Best set up for 5’ truck bed.
I think it'd be even better for a 6 foot bed since you dont need to modify anything

What's the distance between the outer legs. If by chance you remember. I'm limited on space as well. And it that the oversized one?
Nice
Do you have enough room for 3 dachshunds? Such a simple & inexpensive setup. Love it !❤
It might be a little cramped with 3 dachshunds but if you're on the smaller side I think you could pull it off
If you were to just not set up the legs would you think it would work in the bed without the extension
