    Hi Ian, I did offer to change the water pump, fan resistor and service the Primera for you free of charge prior to delivery, but you said you wanted to do the jobs yourself as it would make good video content. I wanted to provide you with a reliable car you and your family could use straight away. Never mind, I am sure your garage will do a good job and I am glad you are enjoying driving it.

      I’ve a feeling Ms Hubnut prioritisation approach is the reason.
      Would be a good idea to leave a camera for the garage to take some shots/videos of the job.

    I’m loving the primera Ian. I had a 2.0 P11 about 9 years ago and it was one of the finest handling cars I ever had, even though it was on nasty 14” tyres. The engine pulled forever and kept up with far more exotic machinery and the handling was so sure footed you could never get into trouble. I’m very jealous of you!

    That -1c degree sounds pretty warm to me, today morning in South-west Finland was -26c 🥶

    • @CaptHollister
      @CaptHollister 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm surprised about your concern about gelling diesel. In a normal winter, the part of Canada where I live sees the occasional -30c, but we have winterized diesel, so gelling is never a concern. Certainly my car always starts easily even at those temps.

    • @JS-1983
      @JS-1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptHollister we have also winter diesel, but if there's summer diesel left in your tank before you fill it up with winter one and those two different diesel don't mix up so well and if your fuel filter have also that summer diesel it can bloked up.
      Everytime there is -15 or colder you can see diesel cars side of the road.
      I don't ever have problem with diesel on winter maybe it's just cars of those peoples who don' care or don't maintenance their cars properly 😄

    A wise job farming out work, sometimes you just don’t seem interested and feel like it. I just farmed out a job on the landy that I’d have relished if it was sunny/dry and I was younger 😂 nowadays I choose what I want to do based on my time, I’m more interested in having fun on my days off work than getting fed up at a car. Still do stuff when there’s no pressure on but if I need to fix a car and I don’t want to I farm it.

    Those older Nissans are very reliable, and far better built, compared to today's Nissan offerings, and for 400 quid, you can't go wrong. May not be too exciting to look at but it will do the job for years to come, if you wanted, bargain 👍

      The new Nissan's have Renault links that could explain the reliability issues. The electrics are always the downside on any Nissan under the Renault ownership.

    • @Charlie_Crown
      @Charlie_Crown 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bentullett6068 Well known for it, rubbish electrics, but thats not the only issue. If you've ever test driven a more modern Nissan, say over at least the last ten years or so, they are not nearly as solid a car, they just lack the quality of say a Toyota for instance, and definitely a lot of cost cutting corners taken place there. I like Japanese cars, great reliability, but out of all of them, Nissan would now be bottom of the list for me, the modern ones that is.

    Nice to see you'll get a full service from the farming-out as well. The little button on the end of the wiper stalk has 3 functions it can make the right-hand LCD digits display: current time in hr-min (default when it's around 5deg C or above); outside temperature (which takes precedence when it's really cold!); and current date in DD:MM form. That's the one you thought was another time setting, and so looks to be about a month and a half out! I vaguely remember that you can hold and then click-press that stalk-end to change the setting of time and/ or date. Really happy memories in your videos of my late wife's R-reg 1997 P11 1.6SLX, which came brand-new from the Nissan dealership down the road from West End; the smaller engine had less of a mid-range flat spot than yours.

Home schooling and can't be arsed aren't good excuses and you can do the mechanics which your cars are crying out for, just look back to your earlier videos to see why your channel grew so much.
    I'm not having a go at you personally I think you are a great chap but your videos are going downhill fast. If you start a job finish it don't get bored and give us a history lesson on another car. I've enjoyed your channel since you got TWC and I hope you can pull it round a bit mate.

    Well done, Ian. My former boss had an Infiniti G20 with auto box. Generally a nice car to drive, and quite luxurious. He got 300,000 miles out of it before rust killed it. I will never forget us going to collect as 78 Mercury Grand Marquis saloon. A giant of a car with a 6.5 litre engine. It was about 2½ hours each way. Coming back to the city, I didn't realize the speedometer in the Marquis was wildly pessimistic. I thought I was doing the speed limit of 80 km/h. I was really doing slightly over the 100 mark. When we got to his house, I was as relaxed as can be. The old boat had been loafing along. The boss was frazzled from trying to keep up with me. Possibly time to trim the fleet back.
    It maybe only me, but I see no point at all in owning so many vehicles, having so many unfinished or not started jobs on each one.
    Hopefully this comes across as a CONSTRUCTIVE comment as its INTENDED, and not as a dig or criticism.
    As you say, your content is suffering and farming jobs out and not doing them yourself, seems to me to not be NOT IN THE SPIRIT of the HubNut channel.
    As I say Ian, hopefully you see this as constructive and not a criticism.

    I am struggling to understand. Pay for a full service on the Primera, tinker away with invercar? I would think if you aren't going to do a service on the primera the likelihood of the two hulks at the back of the garage becoming roadworthy are less than zero. Perhaps a review of what the role of each of the cars is might help with organisation e.g use, scrap or sell.

      it's different machines for different purposes though, it makes sense to farm out the work on the daily driver family car that's not going to be part of the fleet for that long if it means more time to do work on the ones that have a long term future, and I suspect do better in terms of views and engagement (because being able to make money to keep doing it is also important). Don't know where that leaves the other two, but there's more content potential in them than there is in routine service on a Nissan, it's not like something needs to be done to them right away.

    Let's face it how cold it is at the moment no one wants to work outside on cars as far as the fleet is concerned the two cars at the back aren't really in your skill set to take on both need mechanical electrical and rust and body repairs really need to much time and money with not much reward sorry Ian but sometimes you just have to be realistic Rob

Dont worry we all understand.

    I would not have described the rear suspension as "multi-link". It's more like the rear end of an SD1 rover with a solid axle, without the diff and a weird Panhard rod type thing instead of a watts linkage. It probably works well because it would have a low unsprung weight and it looks to be well located.
    The Primera was sold as an Infinity in the USA so the UK people were very lucky to be able to buy a Luxury car in a more basic form for a lower price.

    The best cars are the ones that look boring but drive really well, great for embarrassing people (mainly chavs in cars with stupid body kits) at traffic lights.
    As for tax my Sister drove for about a month without TAX when she got her car because we'd forgotten about the TAX changes, luckily it's only £30 a year so not costly to rectify. It still annoys me that TAX is so expensive for any older car above 1.4L(?), it was over £200 for my Grans 1.6 Focus the same as a big gas guzzler of the same age. A standard small family car should be cheap to insure.

    4-wheel alignment is utterly essential on the Primera, especially in terms of steering feel. When the alignment is spot on they feel fantastic. When the alignment is off then the steering feels rather numb. Have the garage take a look at the wheel alignment when they have it and it'll feel a whole lot more fun to drive when it comes back...
    The publicly-accessible tax database does lag rather behind the legal database in terms of displaying a vehicle as taxed, especially if it was taxed in the old method of going into a post office to tax it. It should show up on the database that the police use pretty much instantly when the transaction goes through the post office computer. It's just DVLA things...

    Unless you have a warm..ish workshop then working on cars in the cold is grim at the best of times. You also have to make sure there is antifreeze in the Primera or all woe awaits. Freezing is a real risk if people have just been topping it up with water alone . That is just about the last Nissan I'd have given serious consideration to, for all the reasons you mention. Mind you..some of us were driving cars with VVT as far back as 1989 which gave you both low down torque and high end power......Alfa Romeo 8 Valve Twin Spark Nord Engine, which was a complete peach (not to be confused with the later inferior belt driven Twin Spark)

    For a 2.0 16v those numbers are fairly standard. 140 bhp, torque peaking at 4500 rpm. Only if there are variable intake runners and/or variable valve timing, torque comes in a bit earlier.
