NASA had way more fails that the Soviet space program. The soviets quite literally achieved almost everything except the moon landing. The shuttle program was a massive failure and we now rely on Russian rockets.

Bruce had the right idea, you turn your engines too trick gravity into thinking you're fucked and as soon as it stops paying attention you fire them back up. That's Rocket Science 101.

SuperDaniel354 Yes, because the solid booster has it's own fuel tank and can't use the liquid fuel, so the fuel tanks are just dead weight.
SuperDaniel354 Aight, quick rundown. Solid boosters don't need fuel tanks. They're fuel and booster packed into one item, and there's no controlling their thrust; it's either 100% or 0%. Liquid fuel tanks NEED to have a liquid fuel booster under them, or else they'll be redundant and just be adding extra weight. That's why he ran out of fuel so quickly, he only really used the bottom fuel tank, and the 2 above it were still full, they just couldn't be used because there was no liquid booster under them.
Geoff COULD have put a liquid engine and stack decoupler between the solid booster and the engines. This would mean the solid booster gets him through most of the atmosphere, he gets rid of it, then the liquid fuel comes into play. He probably would have cleared the atmosphere that way (but then it wouldn't have been entertaining).
That really wasn't a quick rundown was it..... I got a little carried away.

FlandersNed to use SAS you still need a pilot or a good enough probe. else the reaction wheels will just expend your manual control. it helps but it's still manual.

They are used to doing that in their office. They are usually really close to the pop filters since they themselves need to be closer in order to be heard better.
mustard It is proper mic technique to have your mouth right up against it because it means the mic can be turned down so there will be less background noise that it picks up. Funhaus don't do this because they share mics between people whereas the guys at AH each have their own mic to use

Why do the Achievement Hunter guys sit so damn close to the mic?
Sam McNally When they record lets play's, they each have their own mic, and they sit close to avoid getting any background noise since they are in the loud Rt offices. Funhaus however has people share mics, so they don't sit as close.
That's just how AH records their videos. They use use different audio presets compared to Funhaus.

Still better than the Soviet Union
1) You guys would've gotten a lot farther by pressing the "T" key to activate SAS before launch, which stabilizes the rocket, like cruise control. It would have kept some of the sturdier ones from flipping. 2) When you're building your rocket, you can hit the top left icon to get other filter options - one of which is to sort by fuselage width. It would've helped you get matching pieces. It also helps to click the "size" button to sort parts by size, since all the thumbnails look the same size. 3) Use struts to connect your wobblier parts together to make the rocket sturdier. There is also a red-colored scaffolding part under the "structural" category - those will keep your rocket elevated on the launchpad so your ship isn't just resting on its thrusters. 4) You can check your center of mass by clicking the associated icon in the bottom left. If your center of mass is near the top, way above your center of thrust, you're doing it wrong and you're gonna flip. 5) Build in stages - those are the orange boxes on the right. Every stage should have at least one engine and one fuel tank. The stages are separated by decouplers. Every time you hit space bar during your launch, it's going to activate a decoupler to jettison the expended tank and engine and expose the new ones. You do this every time you run out of fuel on your way up. It's kind of like driving with a manual transmission. Kinda. 6) When you get to 10,000 meters, press "T" to turn off SAS, nudge your ship gently to 45% (halfway down the right of the blue part of the compass) with the "D" key, and reengage SAS with "T" while cutting your engines by 25%. 7) Hit the "M" key to open the orbit map. Your craft's orbit should be highlighted in blue. Near the beginning of the flight, you may need to zoom in to see it. As you burn your engines you will see the orbit start to grow. When you get to around 60,000 meters start leveling out to 90% using the same process described in the last step. Use your orbit map to adjust your orbit while watching your compass. If you're pointing at the symbol that looks like a cross-section of a rocket with a dot in the center, that's prograde - it will expand your orbit. Be careful to cut your engines with "X" once you have a full blue circle around Kerbal in your map - that's your orbit. If you burn too long you'll be flung around the horizon into space like a slingshot. 8) When you want to leave orbit, you'll want to burn retrograde - opposite from prograde - to decay your orbit back into the atmosphere. The symbol looks like the prograde symbol, but with an "X" instead of a dot. If your put RCS thrusters on your ship (accompanied by an RCS tank) and turn them on with the "R" key, you can click the different icons to the left of the compass (with SAS on) to make the ship automatically flip to retrograde or prograde. They're the top two icons on the forementioned list of icons. 9) As you're entering the atmosphere, jettison any remaining tanks and engines you may have been using for your retrograde burn and stay in the retrograde position. Your capsule will appear to catch fire as you enter the atmosphere. At this point, all of your remaining parts should be rated for 2,000 degrees. This info is displayed when you're picking out parts in the assembly building. You should have parachutes isolated in the very last (topmost) stage, so that you may activate them with the space bar after your ship is no longer burning. There are two types of chute - your typical parachute that deploys near the ground, and an additional parachute called a drogue chute which deploys prior to the others, higher in the atmosphere. Both may be triggered at once - once deployed they will automatically open up at their designated altitudes. 10) Hopefully you land or splash down safely, and there you have it. You've gone to orbit and back.
