  • In this video we look at how to build a quality shed on a budget. This is only part tree of what will be a lengthy series that I'm excited to continue working on. In this video we look at part 3 of building a shed, framing the walls. While building a shed for under $250 sounds impossible, with enough thriftiness we should be able to pull in off! make sure to subscribe so you don't miss part 3!

    Framing tip: if you are going to build trusses, as soon as the deck is finiished, use the deck to build the trusses and then put the walls up.

      I am not in the construction industry nor am I a carpenter, I wanted a good guide to help with small projects such as small sheds and some remodeling around the house. So there’s a magic which is Shed Plan [ visit here *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. This Shed Plan covers all my instructions from top to bottom in a step by step manner.

    A tip for you buddy if your using a circular saw,,,,hold your speed square as a guide to run next to with your saw so u get a perfect straight line

    • @jerryhubbard4461
      @jerryhubbard4461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are good with the saw cross cutting lumber, make a mark on the leading edge of the cut, set the saw on the mark, look at the front of the saw, make it square with the lumber and make the cut. No need for all the marking or use of a square. In time you learn to make a cut quick and sqare.

    • @DrewMade222
      @DrewMade222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For a stud u want it to be square as possible, use not just your eyes until u get as good as Mr. Hubbard here...

    • @jerryhubbard4461
      @jerryhubbard4461 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guarantee I can make a cut on a piece of stick framing lumber as straight as you can using the square and much quicker. Doing so come with many cuts and framing. Not trying to say your way is wrong, but with experience, you get that good. Watch some framing videos by the master Larry Hann. He will show you how it's done.

    • @DrewMade222
      @DrewMade222 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Jer bear, I use my eye a lot too.. once u do it a few thousand times right on right on

      @jerryhubbard4461 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As you probably know, framing is not exact. Very forgiving. Again, check out the master Larry Hann. He has passed now but man did he leave some great videos on carpentry. You will enjoy watching him and his brother Joe.

    ok , since some of you asked for tips. when u are marking your wall plates (top and bottom 2x4's) always place both plates on edge together on a flat surface and mark BOTH at the same time , it prevents mistakes. and don't mark the side of the 2x4, mark the top ( the 1-1/2 edge) because that's what you will see when you are nailing the 2x4 studs. . also , hook your tape on the end of the plate and mark the plate at 15-1/4" , 31'1/4" , 47-1/4 " etc. and then put the 'x' on the side of the line that is in the direction you are measuring. that way the center of the wall stud will be on 16". 16 , 32, 48, 64, 80 etc should be the MIDDLE or CENTER of the wall stud , NOT the side !!! if you do it any other way you waste wall sheathing (plywood)

    Ripping 2x6 " to two 2 11/16" studs gives you your second stud for about a $1 in current 500% increase in demand for lumber. Doug fir is gold now.

    Bummer the project got rained on... If the sunshine touches lumber, especially wet lumber, they can/do warp like a sob.... wavy walls/roof. Overall good videos though. Couple things could have made it easier that I'm sure others have mentioned (cutting/framing the rafters first, nailing the osb/plywood to the wall frame before you erect)...but who cares. Thanks for putting it up.

    Your layout is wrong for 16" on center. The correct way is from 0- 15 1/4" - 31 1/4" - 47 1/4" ..... always 3/4" less then set your head to get 16 of and you should have a space of 14" between each joist or stud

    You can’t just pull 16 inches from one side and Mark an X ahead of it the whole reason why framers either pull 16 and nail there stud roughly centre of the mark or pull 15 1/4 and then pull 16 from there while marking X’s ahead is so all your sheet goods will land properly

    i have read allot of your comments while building the foundation, i didn't read them all and maybe someone left a very important detail if not you are using the wrong fasteners for pressure treated lumber,the manufactures recommend Galvanized,stainless,or a special coated screws because of the the corrosive treatment they use in the lumber,i have done allot of demo work and replacement of treated lumber where regular 16 d nails or standard nails were gone just rusted off,in fact some of what we call acid lumber (the first batch of treated lumber) has caused allot of deaths because of decks falling off buildings,even galvanized nails were corroding,this new treated lumber lumber these days is the third type and they say they are not having problems with it,but as a pro i would never use a not coated nail or screw on any wood that is not protected or covered.
