As a Tunisian, i can tell you that this Union will never happend, we call it here the "Maghreb dream" which stand for a full union between these countries which will never come true sadly for many complicated relationships between members, Tunisia and Algeria are the closest to each others but not the others.
Also i have to point, that The Maghreb union have already an Official flag, it's way better than your flag but nice efforts.
I also have to correct that Western sahara where never a part of this Union, it's considered as part of Morocco, The union includes only 5 countries (Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya)
And there wont any competion if the union existed along side the East african union, The maghreb countries (especially Morocco Algeria and Tunisia) are like 100 years ahead of These east african states you mentioned, North africa is very very Westernized and European looking due to it's geographically close to europe few kilometers. So a Maghreb Union would not only dominate Africa but also the Mediterranean sea. East africa is very isolated from EU and North america.

You should've included the trans-continental highway between Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and how the project stalled for so many years. While the common thorn in the union will always be the disdain between Morocco and Algeria about the Western Sahara, the countries have gone politically in seperate ways that the differences are imminent. Tunisia is officially the only democratic nation in the region. Seeing our bad history with monarchs (Beys) we don't respect these institutions like our neighbours in Morocco do. The only two countries in the union that I can see working good together are Tunisia and Algeria. We share so much in common (Ottoman rule, french colonialism, fall of monarchs, dictatorships) Our histories were nearly always intertwined. Algerian (and Moroccan- sponsored by Mohamed V) guerilla fighters helped in our independence. The bombing of the Tunisian town Saqiat Sidi Yusuf bordering the Algerian borders by the French to stop cooperation with the Algerian resistance. The dark 90's in Algeria and the many people who escaped to Tunisia. And starting 2011 with the Tunisian revolution and how it echoed in Algeria.

Quick fact about the name Maghreb. It means the west in arabic or it can also mean the place where the sun sets. It was given by the arabs conquering the region in the 7th century since they were coming from the east (arabian peninsula) and reaching the Atlantic ocean shores thinking that's the most western land on earth not knowing at the time of course the existence of America on the other side of the Atlantic. As for your question why the name Maghreb has an H right after the G it's because in the arabic phonetics of the word the GH represents the the sound غ as in the french word MERCI while the R in the word Maghreb would sound like R in the word BRAVO.

Tunisian here. from our points of view (as locals), the ones that probably have the biggest chance at a union are Tunisia and Algeria. we have more things in common than the rest of the maghreb countries and there is actually no bad blood between us (which is saying a lot, since in tunisia, there is a lot of bad blood between the interior states and the coastal ones, and we are in the same country smh)
thats due to our dialects being more similar, sharing more similar traditions, cooperation of our populations with the resistance against French colonialism, common inter-marriage specially cities close to the border(i m kinda a tunisian/algerian hybrid XD) and basically a history of causing/getting caught up in trouble together (1998 football world cup in France is a good example, algerians+tunisians vs english hooligans)

The 'gh' is a sound on it's own, that's why it's there. You can listen to it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Voiced_velar_fricative.ogg
It's a bit like a Brazillian or French 'r', but pronounced where the hard 'g' is pronounced instead of further back.
Because of the way it's placed in the word 'Maghreb', it makes it a three-syllable word instead of two-syllable one, at least in Arabic. So it's like "ma-gh-reb". It's the same sound in the word 'Amazigh' :)

    Hi
I am actually a Moroccan. This region has in the past been United many time first of all by the amazighr kindoms that ruled all of north africa and then by the romans (by the way I live in a city called Meknes near the old capital of the Roman province of moritania) and after the Romans the amazighr took their independence before the muslim wave wich reunited the whole region plus Spain and Portugal for few dozens years before an Arab man decedent from the prophet Mohamed called (Idriss) came to Morocco and in a near by town (close to my city) he established an independent Moroccan state. After few handred years of dynasties (some 6 or 7 dynasties) the region split some times and reunited other times the ottoman empire took over most of the region exept morocco (muratinia and so called west Sahara plus a part of Algeria and Mali were all part of Morocco) and in the 18th century Algeria was colonised by France and then Tunisia and part of morocco before France put Morocco under protectorate and Italy took over Libya and Spain took the north and the south of Morocco. Anyway before leaving France and other European superpowers draw some odd maps deviding the region in some weird shapes (it's obvious from the form of the borders) so in the aftermath of the independence those borders caused a lot of problems for Morocco and Algeria and this division caused a war between the brothers (Morocco and algeria) and caused also the problem of west Sahara independence wich still drags the region to tensions and stops any form of integration or cooperation. But I am hopeful that one day we may be free to travel all of the Maghreb easily.
Sorry for the history lesson. It's just a small amount of one of the oldest inhabited land on earth.

Hi, Moroccan here! I noticed you mispronounced some words, such as “Sahrawi”, and, “Maghreb.” I’m sure you could find the correct pronunciation on Wikipedia. If not, tell me in the replies, and I will tell you how you pronounce it. Also a political union with the intent of a united Maghreb. The political union is called “Arab Maghrebi Union”, it was founded by King Hassan II. Unfortunately the group is extremely outdated, irrelevant, inactive. And even if it wasn’t outdated or irrelevant or inactive, it would be hard to unite the Maghreb due to political relations with Morocco and Algeria, you may think that they would’ve solved it but nobody would create activity in the AMU (Arab Maghreb Union) and AMU was founded by a Moroccan king. Hopefully the problems get solved by the AMU, and the AMU becomes vitalized.
PS: Fun fact: Egypt has applied to join the AMU, Egypt’s application is pending. Also the AMU was founded by Morocco.
Also I noticed you added anthems of Maghrebine countries in the background.

Lol just to answer your question the H in Maghreb is there because "Gh" is supposed to be a phoneme for "غ" which is how it's pronounced in Arabic. Ironically the closest phonetic equivalent to غ in Latin would be the french "R" but screw France ammrite so we just traditionally use "Gh" to spell غ (also because R is usually used to spell the sound ر which is similar to a Spanish R)
Yeah it's actually way less complicated than it sounds lol.

I have absolutely no doubt they will get along well.
