An interesting region for you: I live in Western Austria, in a state called "Vorarlberg", right next to Liechtenstein. Exactly 100 years ago the local population voted about separating from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, which collapsed during WW1, to join Switzerland. 80% voted yes, but the treaty of Saint-Germain didn't allow Vorarlberg to leave Austria, and also Switzerland didn't want to take the region, which made my state known under the name of "Kanton übrig", which translates to "canton leftover". Now, there aren't any big independence movements any longer, but the region transformed from a farmer's land to a economically stable state, with good industry, so i think we could support ourselves on our own, and i also think a voting could pass, if it was today

I am glad you mentioned Cascadia, and the way you drew out that map of what it could constitute since you had the official Bioregion outline behind the green coloration. There is a bit of potential complications in having the whole bioregion become one country, which is the political & ideological divide that has always been very present between the people in the more populated regions, and the more rural regions. It is well known that throughout both Canadian & US history, the more populated an area is, the more "liberal" and "democratic" it gets, whereas the more rural one gets, the more "conservative" and "republican" the population gets. This is VERY true for this region of North America. Especially east of the Cascades in Oregon & Washington, there is strong political & ideological divides in our people here. Likelihood is, those east of the Cascades would cause major issues for a united, independent Cascadia incorporating them into itself for those differences. They most likely would be very angry & refuse to accept anything of it unless they get given back to the US in all likelihood. People tend to completely forget about that human aspect of such a concept.
Additionally, in taking it very seriously, it'd be an all out nightmare logistically too, especially in regards to the fact most people at least in the US seem to carry this dedicated belief that any place seceding into it's own fully sovereign nation would somehow carry all the same laws, politics & government as the country they cede from, in this case, the US. But that's not how that works at all. In fact you'd be creating your own government, your own constitution, laws, etc, etc from scratch once you're freshly birthed as a newborn sovereign nation. The reason why this a incredibly problematic and bad for a new nation is that it shows & means people will still be holding tightly to their beliefs & political stances they held while in the other country before having became this new country. That'd likely cause people to implement the very same policies, documents, laws, etc into place as the prior country they WERE in, and people would likely still have the same corrupted greed taking up the new office in the new country. I mean think about it also like this: When you secede and become your own fully autonomous, independent, sovereign nation... does it mean you no longer have any currency and you need to invent it? And if so, does that mean any & all debts the provinces & states had immediately become null & void and disappear from existence as a result of it? My assumption is a definite yes, but I am fully unsure of it. As I said, my ASSUMPTION would be yes. Now if the answer is the latter part of that question is NO, then... the country would instantly begin with massive BILLIONS of dollars in debt from the corrupt governors & politicians we had in what once was our states when a part of the US. So... how the hell would the newly birthed government and the country's people handle & deal with that? You know? It's all so incredibly odd, wild, complex & deeply convoluted...

Never heard of this and I'm South African, however.... I can see the idea of the Western Cape breaking away from the country. We are not as rich as the Guatengers, but I am pretty sure we will be fine considering Cape Town is growing exceptionally fast commercially. Its also our tourism capital of the country and plus, with all the whites moving and migrating towards the area, I'd say we have a decent chance sometime down the line as we try to regain our sense of cultural identity. But hey, anything can happen who knows. Future is unpredictable. Also, just to clarify as much as I love it down here in the western Cape, I am in no ways a DA supporter. I'm just straight up not. I know for a fact they will be the new fully governing body of the state, and I am not prepared personally to deal with that.
For non-South Africans reading this. DA is our strongest liberal democratic party. Our version of the Left. Will never support them. Ever. Won't see a vote from me any time soon.

    Not quite.
Greenland was colonized by settlers mainly from Iceland and Norway.
However that settlement died out with time, but the claim to those lands stayed with the Kingdom of Norway even as Norway entered a personal union with the King of Denmark.
When Norway was ceded to Sweden in 1814 (after the defeat of Napoleon) Greenland, Iceland and the Faero Islands stayed under Danish rule while Norway didn't.
So they where moved from being a part of the Norwegian Kingdom to a part of the *Danish* Kingdom.

I live in Texas, and I personally don’t know a single person who wants to secede. Sure, we have many natural resources, but we depend on some of the other states for trade, and if we seceded, I don’t think the US would be to keen on trade.

There's also this whole thing about a Civil War where the Union won and said states CAN'T secede...Like legally. If Texas or California or anything else tried to then there's going to be another civil war unless the military is on the pro-independent states side. I'm also Texan by the way but I just moved to Colorado.

@@MewxPro Do you honestly believe the US government would willingly let go of territory and resources that these states give? No there will be fighting and warfare if a secessionist movement really gains any form of power. This is proven in history both our own and others throughout time. The economy of Texas is the second largest in the United States. It has a gross state product of $1.645 trillion (2017), the second largest in the U.S. ... As a sovereign country (2016), Texas would be the 10th largest economy in the world by GDP (ahead of South Korea and Canada).
