"With the air bubbles there it makes me think there was maybe something that was lacking in the way it was processed, um, or the attention to detail that went into making this chocolate" That bar was $550 XD She unknowingly completely roasted that maker.
@@jeremnis Handmade doesn't mean "good quality" and perfect looking doesn't mean "bad". It all depends on context. For example if an industrial chocolate has airbubbles that's a bad sign that the process hasn't been refined (or alternatively, you're buying a pretentious brand that likes to appear like it's handmade...). Lots of high quality industrial chocolate is perfect looking (Lindt for just one example) and is also really good (for industrial chocolate !). On the other hand, I think that a $550 chocolate bar is a perfect example of something incredibly pretentious and only for idiotic nouveau riche snobs since there's no way it's worth it, even with the very distorted sense of value that a billionaire has. Only way that could make sense (barely) is if this chocolate bar was produced on a special occasion and had more of a symbolic value, but we're leaving the "food" space in this case.
@@naohwatson854 It was probably made in America, where they just jack up the price because of marketing. Surprised they didn't add fake gold flakes and mushroom powder.
USA min. wage is 7.25$, let us say the chocolate bar you were going to get is 5$. This is ~68% of your hourly pay. 800$/hr would be 544$ at 68%. 800x24 = 19,200$ a day X 365 = 7,008,000. So someone who makes 7M a year, a 550$ piece of chocolate would be the same as someone who makes 7.25/hr and gets a 5$ bar of chocolate.
It comes down to the scarcity of the bean. The $550 bar is made with super rare heirloom beans. The $7 bar is probably still a good maker, but just a more available high quality bean.

I'm picturing a Black Mirror episode where all humans live inside all day in complete isolation that they were forced to master because of an extremely contagious virus. I mean. We're mastering it anyways and I don't think this'll last more than a year (not even from now). But if it does, I want the walls of my room to have dreamy, magical colorful lighting taken straight from the future. I demand it.
Chocolate is such an amazing thing! you can take it in so many directions from taste, to sensory perception, to history, to food science.....it is fun to talk chocolate all day long
These series help me realize that I don't know anything about anything: that there's someone who obsesses about the minuta of each thing I enjoy on a surface-level and that I could be that person for someone else as well. It's inspiring to see people pursuing stuff so doggedly.
It doesn't necessarily makes sense, but it impacts my perception of logic. Just kidding. But it makes sense! It's not the end of the world to have tiny air bubbles showing through your still tasty and pleasantly textured chocolate, but there's a price point at which it's no longer acceptable unless it's truly something special otherwise (taste and texture wise). Considering she didn't particularly care for it and based her decision on facts and logic rather than her feelings on the experience, we could say that it's probably expensive stuff but maybe not worth the price. There's a comment around explaining how it was likely part of a particular box set with that price containing a collection of many interesting chocolates. If that's true then maybe the price point is acceptable. Still, she didn't care much for it. And she's the expert, not me. I'm a chocolate beggar, she's chocolate royalty.
Subliminal 666 you can be a professional sleeper too (hotels and mattress makers hire these guys to sleep in luxury beds so they know that it’s a good bed)
Couldn't find a bar that costs $550 but there is one that costs just south of $700 and could have been $550 back in 2018. The company is called To’ak. It costs so much because the cocoa beans are aged in former wine casks for over 4 years before being made. Secondly, the beans they use were fought to have been extinct before To’ak announced the type of cocoa beans they use. They are Nacional beans that are very high quality but have a very low yield and reproduction rate which drives the price up even further. They bring out 100 bars per edition and always sell out the day they are ready for sale IIRC.
Reviewing/criticizing/praising brands is absolutely not illegal, they could add the brands if they wanted. They just don't want to. It would be nice to know the brands, but at the same time, people would accuse them of being partial and potentially paid off if they did, so they probably just decided to not deal with showing brands. I guess they feel the point of the show is to compare price points and quality, not brands.
Guittard chocolate is delicious. Once you try her line of chocolate chips, Nestle and others pale in comparison. The semi-sweet chocolate, although not certified vegan, do not contain any milk ingredients. Super win. Plus the price point is super reasonable. I appreciate that she did not mention her brand - but I bought some the other day and will continue to purchase.
If you are examining a candy bar with chocolate in it, look at the list of ingredients. Real chocolate will always list cocoa butter and chocolate liquor. Fake chocolate will have cocoa powder and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

because it's a chalkboard
Wait wow She's from the Guittard family, Epicurious got a real big name
"With the air bubbles there it makes me think there was maybe something that was lacking in the way it was processed, um, or the attention to detail that went into making this chocolate"
That bar was $550 XD
She unknowingly completely roasted that maker.
not really, sometimes really expensive stuff are made to look "I don't care about my look, it is all about the content".
Yes coz its handmade that is why its expensive and have airbubbles. Also very perfect looking chocolates look so commercial and cheap.
Naoh Watson but then she said there was not much difference with the cheap one
I'm not sure that $550 can cure your stress.. cause it vanishes your money just for a single chocolate bar and that's gonna make you crazy
marcelino adiska but if you're super rich and love chocolate then get you some of that chocolate
USA min. wage is 7.25$, let us say the chocolate bar you were going to get is 5$.
Psycoholic2008 the math is off
What if you have 2 550 dollars
Like if i should centrifuge chocolate :D

I know it does. But it's easier to do some of the fading you see on the chalkboard in programs like Illustrator and Photoshop compared to chalk.
7$ Choco VS 550$ Choco - The way she said I'm not sure which ones more expensive makes me believe that 7$ choco = 550$ choco lol
It comes down to the scarcity of the bean. The $550 bar is made with super rare heirloom beans. The $7 bar is probably still a good maker, but just a more available high quality bean.
When she said "I wouldn't be able to eat a lot of this " 2 seconds later I was like "wow she's a psychic". 😂you really can't have a 500$ chocolate bar

Dangggg and I thought I knew chocolate well!! She’s so well spoken and educated u go girl!!!!
These series help me realize that I don't know anything about anything: that there's someone who obsesses about the minuta of each thing I enjoy on a surface-level and that I could be that person for someone else as well.
It's inspiring to see people pursuing stuff so doggedly.
Those backgrounds are always so creative !
let just hope that is its not a green screen..
"the air bubbles don't necessarily affect the quality, but they impact my perception of the quality"
It makes complete sens actually

Couldn't find a bar that costs $550 but there is one that costs just south of $700 and could have been $550 back in 2018. The company is called To’ak. It costs so much because the cocoa beans are aged in former wine casks for over 4 years before being made. Secondly, the beans they use were fought to have been extinct before To’ak announced the type of cocoa beans they use. They are Nacional beans that are very high quality but have a very low yield and reproduction rate which drives the price up even further.
They bring out 100 bars per edition and always sell out the day they are ready for sale IIRC.
Educational and entertaining, thank you. Is it possible to add the brands in notes?
That's illegal, people will sue
Reviewing/criticizing/praising brands is absolutely not illegal, they could add the brands if they wanted. They just don't want to. It would be nice to know the brands, but at the same time, people would accuse them of being partial and potentially paid off if they did, so they probably just decided to not deal with showing brands.
I guess they feel the point of the show is to compare price points and quality, not brands.
Esuerre some countries have laws against that
Maybe if they were just to list which brands were used (and leave it to us to determine which is which and why.

Guittard chocolate is delicious. Once you try her line of chocolate chips, Nestle and others pale in comparison. The semi-sweet chocolate, although not certified vegan, do not contain any milk ingredients. Super win. Plus the price point is super reasonable.
