Fred, I have the PLUS version and i noticed you can also 'touch' the frequency digits in the display, and set the step this way, this tunes A LOT easier on SSB than that annoying BFO, i rarely use it, i just touch one of the digits behind the dot, and then tune in using main tuning dail 73 from the 19 Division :)

I just ordered the ATS20 today and I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. I am buying all new short-wave receivers and amateur transceivers since my house burned down. Starting over again.
I have the 25 and the 25x1. I really like the 25x1. Some call it a toy, but I actually found more on this than on Mt Tecsun PL 990. It is fun to play with the scan feature. Being able to see the frequencies showing on the graph is helpful, and it shows the bad beginning and end. So.e people say it is not live, but it makes tuning in much faster. I am a newbie but I consider it a helpful learning tool. I used it on my MLA 30 Loop which is 20' feet above ground.
The ATS 25x1 overloads quite badly at times much more than the PL-990, H501 etc, the PL-680 having much better audio on SSB making ECSS much nicer to listen to free of distortion.
I am waiting for mine to arrive. If anyone saw one of these when I was a kid, they would have absolutely known it was alien technology! Born in 49’, and doing fine. ❤️from Portugal.
Glad I found this video. I had no idea what all the different versions were or where I could get one where the VFO control is a good quality one. I followed the link you provided and found that they are now up to the X2 version which also seems to have WiFi. Just ordered it.
My biggest question is how do I mute the RX when I want to TX with my homebrew QRP transmitter? I have built a simple TR switched relay operated device, perhaps I can use the external speaker function and simply just have the relay disconnect the external speaker. Food for thought. Thanks for the review. I like taking my tiny homebrew transmitters to activate POTA but I generally like a receiver with decent enough receive quality to decode CW. I don't like taking expensive radios out into the field, but this ATS-25 appears to possibly meet the requirement of balance between performance and cost. Thanks & 72, Dave - KU9L

Hi Fred. Nice video. Have just gotten mine and am disapointed. Fine on FM. Low sens on AM. Very very low sensitivity on HF ham bands. I bought one for my stepson and had a similar experience. On a hunch I hooked it up going through a manual antenna tuner. Huge improvement! Ham educated guess is that the radio is expecting to see a certain impedance, which could be all over the place depending on what you're using. Oh MFJ sells nice calibrated preselector. Add simple one or two xstr rf a.p and u r in business
What would be the best material to use to shield the display from the internal electronics to reduce noise into the speaker?
Prob a copper screen mesh.
hi fred . can you please you put a new link as this one does not work now as i wood to by one lol kind regards paul h
Hi Paul. Updated with the latest X2 wifi version which is currently on sale as well.
Excellent review. Do you know if there is a transceiver version of this radio or something close? DE KK4ESV,,, 73
Hi. There is no transmitter for this design.
Frid in the shed you have instresing information on CB radio and shortwave radio Receivers
Looks like no air band if I'm correct, I was looking at buying one but would like air band as well.
This one has airband and about £80. th-cam.com/video/tfsusJc31Pc/w-d-xo.html

Which is best? The "ATS-25max" or the "ATS-25X1"?
Iam not sure Brain. Might be worth a google for a forum
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks.
Curious audio overlapping editing technique. Kind of off putting. Otherwise nice job
WOW, your OCD is off the charts.
Can anyone tell me about ats 25 max ?
I am testing one at the moment. It now supports LNA antenna input so should not overload so easy. Has more options on the power meter inc a waterfall effect. Decodes morse and digital data. Seems a step forward. I will have a video made next month.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thank you friend .
No air band correct?
No not on this one.
hi im trying to find airband on this unit please
Hi it wont tune that high.
@@CB-RADIO-UK thanks im sending back as ive needed for that never mind ill look when all done thanks fred
Ugh, the cross edits in the audio are horiable. If he's going to be picky about the speaker then I can on the editing!
Anyone have spec sheet and .anual?
How much current does this receiver draw?
Not 100% sure but very little prob 0.5amp or less
@@CB-RADIO-UK Thanks!
If only it didnt have muted tuning :(
Can it pick up airband and sea?
No it wont go that high.
Probably a stupid question. It's got Wifi. What is the advantage of having this? Can I receive internet radio stations?
Hi. No afraid not as the wifi is just for updates only.
Good luck with finding a key. Looks like some shady stuff is happening on the forum. Not very transparent.
no waterfall, no AM above 108, no FM in CB, no separate volume = nope
Hi Fred. Nice video. Have just gotten mine and am disapointed. Fine on FM. Low sens on AM. Very very low sensitivity on HF ham bands. Have old heathkit solid state SW/AM bcst radio that i built 25 years or so ago that is head and shoulders more sensitive. Copy 40 cwon 3 ft whip indoors. With this set i barely got w1aw cw bulletin with a 12 ft whip out in my garden. Max vol very faint. Faint 329 but on reg receiver 589. Ft8 on 14 and 7 just barely noticeable. Shortwave bcst not much better. Is that what u see or did i get a dud? Did you use full dize base antenna on HF? Hoped for much better. Rsvp. 73 Karl WA2KBZ at gm.
Hi Karl. Its no Yaesu but i found for general SW listening it was fine. Too many settings to adjust really. Compared to my old FRG 8800 its lacking but its pretty cheap.
Thanks. On real hf antenna is ok. Lacks se.nsitivity maybe 20uV. But on 8 ft wire in garden only very faint sigs. Wonder if i have a dud/ bad hf / f. Switch or dead first rf amp
. Does that sound worse than yours? 73 Karl WA2KBZ/ W5EWF. See Qrz for story
I bought one for my stepson and had a similar experience. On a hunch I hooked it up going through a manual antenna tuner. Huge improvement! Ham educated guess is that the radio is expecting to see a certain impedance, which could be all over the place depending on what you're using. I'm going to order one of the Tecsun tunable loops, and give that a go. Fingers crossed 🤞. Jay K7WLE
I. Bought the 25 decoder version. Sent it back.too many internal birdies.too small display. Ordered a tecsun pl 808 much better recever.
Not seen a Tecsun 808 before. Have seen the XHData 808
I've got the older ATS-25 not much difference really but if your going to buy the latest version I would look to buying the DEEPSDR-101 it's better construction miles better performance and a cheaper radio
4:14 Who in their right mind would want to use a PL259 when there are so many better options out there?
Depends on your existing antenna setup i guess.
@@CB-RADIO-UK it's a deep shame that antenna manufacturers default to the SO239. It's not even slightly waterproof ffs
At 24.30 you say filmware.. and then you say it again...
I know what firmware is but not filmware..
Good review on this radio.
Good spot your right i did. Thats the trouble with longer videos you loose track of correct phases
