I’d say out of all the weapons covered I’d swap the railgun and deck cannon positions in your list. That rail fan mega ship you showed has like 3x the fire power of ur massive straight ion/chain gun ship whilst only being half the size lmao, and if you were to throw some emp launcher modules on either side of the ship literally nothing can fight it as long as ur crew macro is on point so that u have 100% uptime on the fan. By FAR the most broken strat (followed closely buy a ion nuke ship like ur crescent mega ship). All and all a good guide u got a sub!

      Hi,
Thanks for your support, I really appreciate that!
You are right, my railgun ship has by far the most firepower. However, a MEGA-ship with railguns is resticted in its size and I’d also say in its shape (but its still the strongest weapon in this category).
The Deck Cannons on the other hand are extremly universal, you can literally throw them on every build, size and shape of your ship doesnˋt matter here as much + they also have decent firepower for their size and that is why I decided to put them in the first category and not the railguns.
Have a nice day and see you next time :D

That is indeed a cool concept! Complicated, but very cool and worth trying.

Somewhat disagree with the Ion Beam praise. Yes, your range might not suffer, but your damage does. The falloff is immediately and calculated with every beam. Following the path on your boomerang, you easily lost 50% dmg by sending it around these long ways, compound that with the combination dmg reduction and you just wasted tons of space and power for no gain, you could take a few heavy lasers instead. It looks awesome, don't get me wrong, but your Pizza Destroyer should be the maximum of internal beam distance.
And Railguns are fantastic. Combine a 10x10 rail system with EMP and/or HE on Mega-Ships and there is nothing which can survive. Can't get enough thrust then? Slap on more armor, some Tractor Beams, and you disintegrate people with a 10 shot volley.

      Hi SmokeJam,
thanks for your honest critics, but I still greatly disagree with your opinion and of course I am going to tell you why:
      1. I don´t really understand, why you said that the damage of the Ion beams suffer. As long as you simply conduct a beam WITHOUT combining it with another one, there shouldn´t be any damage loss (at least thats what the extended in-game description says about prisms), maybe you could clarify that a little? I mean of course inside your prism array you already have some losses due to the initial combination... is that what you meant? And since there is no "conduction-loss", you can turn otherwise useless parts into real damage monsters by simply adding some conduction prisms to the front! And you don´t even need ammunition (which can become problematic in carrier...), so as long as there is enough power, they can shoot forever. That´s why I said, Ion beams are your greatest friends :D
      2. The weapon ranking ONLY applies to MEGA-ships. To rank the weapons, I did not only take in raw stats like firepower, accuracy, power drain, range etc., but also some other metrics like overall usability for different MEGA-ship designs. Let´s take the railgun: in normal ships definitely one of the most powerful weapons, but in MEGA-ships they have limited use due to their mechanic and their extension modules. If you have a ship thats multiple sections long, or that is vertical, you can´t simply throw them in everywhere, since they will get obstructed by the sections above and thats why I decided to put it into the 2nd category. Btw, there should be one example for a MEGA-ship with railguns inside one of my tutorial parts, if you want to see more about it ;)
      3. Please keep in mind, that this is more of a construction guide and not an efficiency test, for example I built the Boomerang only to showcase certain features (such as the Ion beam aray of the ship or in another part I used this to showcase the connection type and docking process). It´s more of a showcase ship, rather then a well balanced fighter.
      4. I would definitely not recommend to use heavy lasers instead of ion beams as a primary weapon (not even as secondary weapons...), but ONLY in MEGA-ships, they are great in casual ships! Of course they are somewhat good against small ships, you can add some for rear or backside protection. But the only practical application as a main weapon I can think about is a MEGA-ship orbiter, so their use is limited to a single MEGA-ship design. They have far less damage output and most important: they expose a wide area of your ship to enemy fire. And at this scale, even a full row of small shields + multiple large shields can´t protect them against all the damage monsters out there (nukes, railguns, missiles, Ion beams and even chainguns with large magazine extensions are enough to take this down). And also keep in mind: MEGA-ships are most often very large structures which makes them very heavy, so their evasion potential against projectiles isn´t usually that high (except for the orbiter, that´s why I named it here).
I hope that settles everything, if you want to ask/critisize further, please let me know, this is very helpful to me!
Thanks for your support and your thoughts, I hope you have a nice day/night!

@@Gobbo-Gamer Apparently my answer got deleted because I put a link into it?
Anyways, thanks for the long answer!
Railguns: I think it is a taste difference. Yes, they are reliant on compliment weapons, especially on big ships, but for me they work better than ion beams if I just need to get rid of something quickly. I guess it comes down to preference, I never run the rail alone on a mega ship, there are usually deck cannons on the flanks and rockets flying out of every other crevice the ship has XD
Ion Beam: The TH-camr Captain Caffeine made a very concise test about the damage falloff. His Basic Laser Guide minute 10.05 is the start, I think my comment got deleted because I linked the timestamp video. In short: The damage falls off with range in a linear fashion. If you have more distance between prisms, the beam will lose damage over that range. The receiving prism will now calculate this diminished damage as the new baseline and you lose damage over range again etc. Compounding that over a mega ship turns an 8-emitter beam into the same as lets say a 4-emitter beam if it was closer to the front.

@@SmokeJam Ok that´s great to know, I never tested the Ion prism that much so I haven´t noticed the damage drop, but of course this lowers the expected damage output by a lot... I guess its still usable and has a great application, as long as there are enough prisms close to each other to lower the damage drop. I will definitely keep that in mind for future builds :D
      Thank you for your support!

Don't laser weapons have the option to be placed side way just like the chain gun so that they aren't too exposed to the enemy ships?

    • @Gobbo-Gamer
      @Gobbo-Gamer  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thats true, you can also place them sideways or in a 45 degree angle, the problem is, that the damage output in relation to your exposed area is relatively low, so thats why I wouldn‘t recommend them as your main weapon, but of course if you have some tiny spaces left, you can use one or two as fillers for some extra damage ;)
      Have a nice day!

On mining laser - why is it low on the list? it has the same damage per second per power use as the ion while also being happy being buried inside with not even lil holes for fifing, and can aim wherever (not literally 360 but you get my point) - range is a decent reason ofc
Also confused why you can't mount and use the exterior energy weapons (laser, hvy laser, disruptor) the same way you mount the chain gun, inside a tunnel that protects the weapon. This technique with diagonal ships also makes the cannons useable and protected

      @@entitxy_4810 Hi there,
to use mining lasers sounds logic at first and isn‘t a bad idea, but sadly mining lasers have many disadvantages. Firstly I think, especially after the update, they do less damage per energy now then Ion beams and have less range, as you already mentioned. On top of that, mining lasers sweep around quite a lot, but when it comes to lasers, you want some focused damage output to take down certain parts of the enemy ship. And Ion beams have another great advantage: prisms! They not only focus the laser beam, they also increase its range, which means you can conduct the beam throughout your entire ship, allowing you to turn otherwise useless ship parts into great damage supporters. So I wouldn’t say its impossible to use mining lasers, but it’s simply ineffective. Same goes for lasers and cannons, you need a lot of them to be effective, and that means you also have to expose wide(r) parts of your ship (especially with cannons). Its just way better to fill this space with more powerful weapons like nukes or chain guns.
I hope that answers all questions, thank you for this great comment and I wish you a nice day :D
