Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Chewbacca's Bowcaster!

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 ก.ย. 2024
  • For Halloween this year, Adam needed a bowcaster replica for his Chewbacca costume, so it was time to put this prop together using parts and pieces he had sourced and uncovered over the years of researching this prop. It's a comfort build Adam originally intended to do just for himself, so its accuracy to any specific film is less important than the experience of putting it together and using it for cosplay!

i have an evolutionary model for humanity this is very important for a sustainable population of 30 billion plus it is simply a public innovation A.i cafe multiplex with 5 floors ground zero is elons hyper loop public tansport tunnel and uv herb farm ,,, can be formed at any stage
      science week everyday
floor 1: is a cafe craft lounge for knitting, reading and possibly making 3d art paper mache dinosuars model ships and so on
floor 2 is the famous hacker space becoming the new engine of the developing world a fine example is stranger sparts hacker space on youtube but with more robotics and computer building

this all sounds expensive but its not in the stages i can essemble it in with paid tasks it will generate money and not just hone in on arising issues but aid in the most calculative possible way with precision and objectives outlined and updated and resources much better managed, arrange, co-ordinated and shared
i can make 10 billion elon musks with what ive got but with your help we can make 60 billion im in iralnd and thiers 2 big building in Dublin i must resurrect with a model proud to dublicate 100 times think of the kennedy space museum vs jurrassic park and star trek i headhunt the best so i can bring this emporium to a town near everyone the forum building in groningen Netherlands is the clostest thing so far and finlands evolutionary housing first system neds a pubkic domain to be elaborated globally and will but with my hand so nothing is left to chance we got to the moon but to get to mars were gonna have to shape things up a little

Dear Adam, I felt like the first 3 minutes of this video was you justifying why you didn't want to entertain today. I could feel through the video a feeling of apprehension and fear for doing something you want simply because you want too. I'm here to tell you that we all love you. I've basically grown up with you through these videos and Mythbusters. You might not know it, but you're basically a big brother to me and many others I'm sure. It was very kind and thorough of you to explain, but I don't think I'm alone when I say, you don't need an excuse. "I'm going to build a bolt caster, just for me. I'm happy if you guys watch if you want" Is enough, and will always be enough for me to sit quietly and enjoy your company. I watch to spend time with you, not because of all your toys; all your little creations and tools would not carry the same meaning and energy if it weren't you that made them.

Awesome build. The one thing I might argue about is a bit with the weathering. Chewie has been carrying some version of that weapon for over a century, he literally lives or dies by its functionality. So like most beings whose lives depend on their weapons functioning as expected every time, he likely takes very good care of it. That's not to say it doesn't show a lot of marks of wear and hard use, just that it's the same kind of wear and hard use that a well-worn modern rifle of a veteran soldier might have.
At least in my mind. Anyway, thanks for sharing the build!

    2. You *GET TO WEAR A 100% ACCURATE CHEWCACCA COSTUME* , literally because you felt like it....who... *TF* gets to "just do *that* "
    Any questions??

    What??!?! No "Gugugugugguguuuuurrraaaahhhh" from you?!?!
Totally get the need-to-build-something - its cathartic. Most recently I made a Viking shield for myself, bow and arrows and quiver for my daughter, and onto a can dispenser WIP as we are storing... for just in case, and a sword display also WIP.

    AWESOME BUILD!
I just have an issue with the way you were implying that Chewie would not really take care of his bowcaster. I know there would be wear and tear, But I personally think that Chewie would Take care of it Really well. After all, His life (and Han's Life) depends on it WORKING. He'd spend as much time on cleaning it and making sure no grunge would have a chance of Impeding its workings. Dings and Scratches are apart of the usage that he wouldn't worry about (Unless it would cause it not to work) but dirt and grime are easy to get rid of.

I know this is the wrong video, but I'm wondering what was the hip pouch he was using in "Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Giant Swiss Army Knife Repair!". I'm big on pouches like that and I would love to know more about it.
Edit: You can see that pouch in this video at the seven minute mark.

Sir, like your channel. I need to have a brass connector M10x1.0 Female to a green gas valve (dummy). This will be used to attach a pcp foster connector to a green gas airgun.
Allowing me to use compressed air.
    Is this possible,?

There should be a demerit badge for "attaching yourself to your project"
I am prone to using glue, super glue especially, in some of my projects, and I either glue myself to the piece or have to clean off super glue from my hands just so my phone will work...
Another fun one themed to those with a "diaster zone work area", aka those makers who end up covered in paint, glue etc when working on something. Maybe even more than the project itself. I paint and my hands, face, shirt etc get splattered or smeared with paint. Smocks are great, if you remember to wear them. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Thats the cool thing about living in the rhine valley in Germany. During carnival season, (11/11 until carnival, starting of the lent period in February), you don't need a special reason for putting your favourite costume on. Carnival is THE reason for that.

Adam, I have a question for you. Can you speak to how your family reacts to what you do and your energy. For instance, what does your wife think of it all? Are there arguments? I know alot of my projects get a certain amount of "why are you doing this?" looks. You know? Thanks!

I've wondered in the past how Chewbacca's weapon worked or why it looked the way it did. Today I know it's designed upon pure fantasy and style using spare military, sports, camera and lighting equipment much like the light sabers.

I concur with Adam about just wanting to get to that zen place while working. It's a technique I use myself. The time laps, what feels like thirty minutes while working translates into four hours. Have got to go look at the merit badges, love the blue flash one...............

In my opinion you don't always need to talk and explain. Don't get me wrong, it's very helpful as I do consider myself a maker in the making, and learning from someone with as much experience as you have is incredible, but it's also very soothing just watching you build something, without commentary.

Hey as much as I like your idea about weathering stuff I feel like you are underestimating the respect a "soldier" has for his firearm. I would expect to see some wear on edges, but dirt, no way unless you pick it up straight from a battlefield. A soldier spends a hell lot of time cleaning his weapon as it is your lifeline. I wouldn't expect any different with Chewbacca ;).

Don't apologize for needing some you time. That should never have to be a thing. If anything thank *you* for filming this during your relax and destress time, and honestly I wouldn't mind a few more like this. The commentary and explaining in most videos is nice, but this was a good chill and watch the magic happen sort of thing.

There is one thing missing from your weathering. Hair! I have long hair and it gets caught in my headset for work all the time. With how long Chewie's fur is, there is no feasible way that it didn't get caught on parts of his bowcaster and get pulled out. I say go back over pinch points with another paint, and sprinkle a few strands of fur from remnants of your suit. That will make it believable as being carried by a "walking carpet"

Someone else may have made this comment previously, but oh well. Point of lore, as far as I'm aware, when a Wookie goes on their right of passage, they build their bowcaster making each caster unique to its creator. With that in mind, the narrative here can be that Adam's Chewie is simply an alternate reality costume. Fidelity is one thing, but I still love the finished project here. Thank you for recording and sharing this with us. I get a lot out of the content here, inspirationally, emotionally and motivationally. This is just a reminder that even in a situation where we may not be motivated at first, sometimes diving in and just losing yourself in the work can speak for itself. Cheers!

I know it's non-working prop, but how does that bowcaster work in the fictional Star Wars universe? What's the bow part actually do? Doesn't seem like you can pull it back very far or shoot anything with it.

I'm liking this, because you are defining your own way of working. No need to feel that you have to follow a set pattern we live only once and I love that you are showing people that they can in fact do things in their own way and for themselves. There is no shame in showing it off or showing it off on the interwebs especially since this is the way we actually really work. Creativity cant be timeboxed, well it can but you know what I mean :). I find there is immense educational value in showing people the value of doing things your way and trusting yourself many people benefit from this lesson.
And it was a perfect way to film this, watching this soothed my rugged soul- thank you.

Is the finger merit badge specifically for lathe related injuries or can we order it if we have managed to have to go to the ER for any number of maker related finger injuries? For example maybe slicing the entire tip of your finger off with an exacto knife while making table top terrain, or having a sledge hammer fall on your finger when you were splitting wood(not really a maker activity but still tools causing damage because you were not paying enough attention).
Note: These may or may not be real examples of reasons why I have less feeling in two of my fingers now :)

Easiest and cheapest way to get your Fullers Earth is grab a bag of Oil Dri floor absorbent, and grind it down yourself. Use either in a pestle and mortar or a coffee grinder. Just don't breathe the dust! You can use it mixed with water as a slurry to pull grease stains out of marble or quartz, or even bury a wood project you're working on to dry it out and raise the grain. That will allow stains and varnishes to penetrate deeper and make the grain pop.
