Today we have a bit of a stamp carving adventure. Have you ever tried block printing before? It's really satisfying and therapeutic. I really enjoy carving my artwork into the linocut blocks for hours, and then watching that artwork come to life the moment I roll ink across it and turn it into a print! As with most of my videos, there are multiple art projects in this video. So come join the fun and see what I create in this episode of my stamp carving series!

Your stamps turned out so well! I remember crafts at school and doing stamp making like you did today. It was huge fun to do and the results when you create your own wrapping paper is so rewarding. I never would have thought of using paper delivery bags like that. That was a brilliant idea! I'm in the UK we don't get things in bags like that, but it's possible to get craft paper and I think I may make my own Christmas wrapping paper this year! Thank you for the idea Mira.

I love that you also identify as a shy, introverted person, I am exactly the same! Although with age I have learnt the art of small talk and ease with strangers, but in my 20s and even 30s I was so socially awkward haha. I still avoid large social gatherings at all cost lol...I haven't tried stamps yet but the cutting and chiselling looks so therapeutic and relaxing. Beautiful artwork as always, Mira!!!

I’m so happy you made another stamp video! Your first video inspired me to start stamp making, and I’m super excited to start soon. So cool that you made another video about it just as I’m about to start!
And oh my gosh, up-cycling those bags as wrapping paper is so cute! The stamps look great on it!

Hey Mira, you might not know this but a fun fact I learned doing this (inspired by you) is that those blue blocks you are carving into are also erasers! Yes they work on pencil to erase lead on paper! I hope you learned something knew and I love your videos, so inspiring.

I kid you not, I had a similar inspiration a few weeks back after getting an Artful subscription box with all the lino stuff in and sat and drew out a bunch of Christmas based mini stamps to carve out and then use to make Christmas cards with my nephews and nibling. I have a big roll of Kraft paper too which I will probably be using again to wrap gifts - I like to use some red/white striped twine for the ribbon and bow and this year I'm thinking of adding little nature-y accents to them - like those little things with a spruce twig, some berries, and a tiny pinecone - almost like little buttonholes for an autumnal wedding 😁

Oh flashbacks to middle school and high school and using paper bags as book covers.
Just a tip for when you start wrapping stuff, most of the bags have a seam where they’re glued together so you don’t have to cut the bag up unless you needed the small pieces.

I love the postage stamp look. The 'weird eye' looks like a planet in the eye socket! Love the stamped wrapping paper, too. You make stamp carving look so fun and inspiring but I just don't have room for one more art supply! I'm in the middle of a major art room organization and am stressing where to put everything. Arghhh! Happy Thanksgiving :)

try using a spray bottle of water to thin out the ink just a tiny bit!! the creamier it use the more uniform it goes on the block, and the cleaner the final peel away. Plus the joy of using the roller to mix it up is extremely satisfying, and you'll save yourself some ink cost in the long run :)

  • @mjpete27

Stamping has come so far! so many more supplies available and so easy to get! I hope you decide to do some multiple ink prints! It is harder to use register marks or line up your prints with same size paper and tape register stops! I think water soluble inks is so great! I worked with oil based inks and they were so hard to clean! toxic fumes and excess waste fluids were difficult to get rid of! I did most of my printing in college as the waste products after school was to expensive to throw away! It is toxic waste and you cannot just wash it down the drain or toss in the trash can! I enjoyed seeing you make the wrapping paper! so cute! and you added so many colors too! Amazing video and great time with the projects made!

I'm reusing the brown paper in our many mail packages throughout the year as wrapping paper. I'm hoping I have time to draw at least one holiday-inspired creation on each package. I despise wrapping presents, but I'm actually looking forward to it! I also am painting wooden circle ornaments for presents this year thanks to your video inspiration! ❤ I've already gifted one, and my friend was blown away. 😊

Ok, I now know what I'm getting with my January cheque. That is so cool. I had no idea you could just make stamps at home!
I like stamps but I didn't want to use anyone elses artwork in my art, I would kind of feel like that's cheating. But if I'm the one making the tree or flower stamp, then who cares if I use it to make a field of flowers in the background or a forest?

Another idea with block printing is to print out a vintage looking map for free and then print your stamp onto the paper! I also find how interesting that during this process the paint sounds exactly like velcro when spreading it out and using the roller. 😂😊

The first time I made a stamp, it was hard haha. I used more of a cork board kind of texture and it hurt my hand because it wasn’t easy cutting through it. However, I still have it to this day because I was proud of what I did back then. (I made it in tenth grade which was like four years ago LOL) I would love to do this again though!! It looks extremely therapeutic and just a lot of fun cutting through the rubber!! 💜💜💜 And have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! 🦃

Love this wrapping paper! The holly would’ve been quicker if you’d carved the holly separate to the berries, I imagine inking that stamp up twice each time with a brush took some time. Also, if you just turn the bag inside out and decorate it , you have a lovely gift bag 😊👍🏻 I might have to go try this! 🙂💕🦋
