- 2024 Kodiak 50k. Drove 7 hours to Big Bear to get UTMB stones. I usually go big but I didn't want to risk not getting stones. I want to at least participate in the lottery for next year. Slept in my car near the start. The average altitude was 7000 feet up and I was winded the entire race. I don't do too well with altitude and I didn't do any altitude training beforehand. But at least I know my altitude simulator works for me because I felt better in altitude when I did train with it. I also messed up my feet. I tried something new with an anti blister foot skin that you wear underneath your socks. I ended up getting blisters. I think you're supposed to use lube before putting them on. The elevation gain wasn't that bad. I brought poles but didn't use them at all. Went straight home afterwards. Car drove itself.
Other than the altitude which was 6800' ft minimum and 7800' ft maximum, this course wasn't very difficult. Signing up for the 100 miler next year. 35 hours is very doable for me. It'll be double the stones.
Thanks for capturing and sharing this. I got a few photos with my phone, but having some video to relive it is great. It was an enjoyable event.
Awesome job 🥇
