Nice video and congrats on your finish! I also started the race in 2023 (and saw myself on your footage of the first climb 😁) but went on to drop out at Courmayeur. One thing I would say to really beware of with UTMB is the 6pm start. This makes nutrition and hydration more difficult, especially if you are someone who is used to running in the mornings. My advice would be to make sure to do enough training runs in the evenings and nights to get yourself used to running & eating at times when you would usually be on the couch or in bed!
It seemed like some of the gnarliest sections were in the last 10 miles or so and yet, you looked so strong at the end. Your sense of humor, smile, and positive attitude throughout were magnifique! Congratulations on an excellent race and thank you for an engaging, beautiful, and fun video.
Inspiring video! I want to do UTMB and my plan is 40 hours. So far, I've never been over 20 hours running and the factor I think the most is sleeping. How many naps/rest did you take?
What did you think of the late start? I did a 160 mile race which starts a bit later then UTMB. It was really frustrating for me as I got sleep deprived on the first night. As I get up quite early I found it very difficult to no what to do in the morning/ most of the day. I find that if a race starts in the morning I have better odds of not getting sleep deprived. As, I don't have to waste energy in the morning before the race! I am also more of a morning person.
I’m hoping to get in CCC in 2025 and live in SoCal like you. Are there particular mountain trails you would recommend in the socal or sierra area that you found helpful?
I've got 2 stones and an index score that qualifies me for a mountain 100miler, this year will be my first time to try the ballot, how many times before you got a race slot?
You honestly deserve an award for looking so fresh even after 100(!!!!) miles! Unbelievable! Great video! Thanks for sharing this story of yours! 🙂
Very nice. You looked as comfortable as one can be on most of the video. I think I struggled more on my first marathon.
Great performance!! The american in jeans you mentioned right in the beginning of the race was Andrew Glaze with his famous jorts ;)
