Formula One 2001: Reverse Grid Race - Part 1 - Australia

- So here I am for the first part in my 'Reverse Grid Race' series on Formula One 2001 on the PS2. This time we are at Albert Park for the Australian Grand Prix. In what promises to be a more balanced season than my previous one on Formula One 2002, who will emerge out on top now that everyone has an equal chance of glory?

What is this series?: It is where in any game (that I am able to do this on) I reverse the start grid of the race to the opposite of the real life qualifying result and see what the new results are. This is all done on the spectator mode. It should throw up loads of overtakes, excitement and unpredictability and gives the lower teams a chance of podiums or even wins. Should be fun.

Marques conspicuous by not having his name recorded for the game. Enrique Bernoldi also is only ever called "Bernoldi" and his first name is never mentioned.

Yeah I guess so but that's definitely my favourite! Well that or Gaston Mazzacane! It's great that he's on the game, makes it just that bit more special! :)
Looks like a promising season compared to 2002 in terms of surprises and a more interesting title fight. Probably not in terms of chaos but who knows.

My tips for the title are Panis and Button. It seems that the AI find it harder to overtake on this game, so we could see it come down to who scores the most consistent points finishes, especially if the reliability is as good as you mentioned in the video.
Also, what are you planning to do with the whole Burti situation? He drove for Prost later in the season. in fact, 2001 was riddled with driver changes if memory serves. Alesi ended up with Jordan and Frentzen went to Prost. That could prove to be a pain for you to keep up with.

I won't be following the driver changes because, as you say, it's extremely hectic.
I looked up the 2001 driver changes for a laugh.... and hectic is a decent way to describe it.
Before Spain:
Prost decided Gaston Mazzacane was, in comparison to Alesi,awful, and sacked him 4 races in. Prost then shopped around for drivers before settling on Jaguar driver Luciano Burti. This left Jaguar to promote their own test driver Pedro de la Rosa.
Before Canada:
Heinz Harald Frentzen suffered a crash at Monaco which left him needing treatment, leaving him to sit out Canada while Jordan test driver Ricardo Zonta took his place.
Before Europe:Heinz Harald Frentzen took his place back after being declared fit to drive.
Before Germany:
Heinz Harald Frentzen’s relationship with the team breaksdown completely and he leaves, to be replaced by Zonta for the second time this season. From what I’ve read explanations for Frentzen’s departure range from pressure from engine supplier Honda to make way for Takuma Sato to get a seat in F1 to Eddie Jordan sensing a situation like 1999 when Damon Hill underperformedmassively throughout the season in a very competitive car and wanting to do something about it.
Before Hungary:
First off, Jean Alesi left his contract at Prost, (I think due to a breakdown in relationship between Alesi and Prost), and Jordan signed up Alesi for the remainder of the season, to replace HHF. Prost responded by signing Frentzen for the rest of the season, so essentially Alesi and Frenzten swapped seats.
Before Italy: Luciano Burti suffered a huge crash with Eddie Irvine at Spa, which left him with bruising and concussion. To replace Burti (for what turned out to be the remainder of the season), Prost brought in test driver Tomáš Enge, leaving Prost fielding 5 different drivers throughout the course of the season. Elsewhere, Alex Yoong was granted his superlicense and gained Tarso Marques’ Minardi seat for the final 3 races, with Marques moving into a testing role for Minardi.

Sato retirement counter.... hey, I don't have to do that now! Actually if you do 2003 next Sato may not finish a race in 2017.....
One thing I will suggest is making the lap which the drivers are on more visible, because I didn't really have a clue what was going on until you said somewhere that we were 9 laps in. Perhaps a way of editing on a lap counter could be made, or just mentioning the lap which the drivers are currently on a lot more? I know the problem isn't of your own making (blame Studio Liverpool), but I think it would make for a better viewing experiance.
Fantastic race though, Lots of overtaking and battling all around the field. I'm going to tip Button or one of BAR's to take the drivers and BAR/Benneton for the constructors. And I also think there may be a Minardi on the podium at some stage this season.....
I'll certainly add in a lap counter for the future races. Anyway those are some interesting predictions and I'd agree with Benetton being right up there for sure.

When I was a kid is used to do these experiments to with the F1 tv mode, but now they removed it on newer games. :(

Why Is Murray Not Say Tarso Marques In The Game?
I look forward to this championship more on the fact that the racinv model of the game is more realistic. Btw, will you do what you did last time and do the driver changes? (e.g. Yoong for Marques at Minardi for Italy onwards)
