There is the perfect example of the true meaning of the word Icon . Such a well spoken , ever so polite , humble man , that never seems to think that he is any better then anyone else . He has maintained the very inspiration of what has brought him from the very moment of the accident that nearly ended it all for him , all the way to this day 50 plus years later . If you can imagine the world without ever knowing this great man and what he has done for music as we know it . Then we would still be stuck listening to sha naa naa , naa naa naa naa naa ,,, Black Sabbath is and always will be the very 1st of the Heaviest of the Heavy Rock Bands Period .
Tony has always been this way. His fingers and lack thereof created Heavy Metal period no question or argument about it and he does not in any way carry himself as such. He is the fuckin Godfather of Darkness and the absolute man. My guitar hero and it very much has to do with how humble and loving of his craft and his fans that he is. Love Sabbath and they are all this super chill humble guys (Maybe aside from Ozzy at times but even him most of the time).
Steppenwolf born to be wild is where "Heavy Metal" was first spoken. Heavy Metal Thunder....Racing with the Wind...with the feeling that I'm under.. Thanks Tony for all the great music.
@sha broussard yes they made one good album without ozzy, thanks to ronnie! they never would've gone anywhere without ozzy to begin with, and they all acknowledge this, i don't know why you don't!
Tony is so humble and beat the odds to become the awesome guitarist he is - I play guitar and as a lad was in awe of how he could be that good with ( as they said at the time) plastic fingers , what an inspiration - I could listen to him talking all day long - a true hero 👍
I saw an article on Tony where he comments on the 3 Sabbath albums he wished didn’t exist. Technical Ec, Mob Rules and Born Again. But 2 songs from those 3 are incredible, Zero the Hero is absolutely one of Tony’s “darkest” creations. That song is one of my favorites ever from Sabbath. Mob Rules rocks super heavy. It was featured in the movie Heavy Metal and its concept is excellent. So as a fan Tony, I must say some great work was on those albums that in my opinion is excellent.
One man who inspired countless millions to play Heavy Metal guitar. Did he personally invent Heavy Metal? If not- who did? Hendrix/Purple haze? Page/Whole Lotta Love? Those songs didn’t make me want to play guitar. I picked up a guitar after hearing War Pigs.
Well the thing is is that Led Zeppelin weren't really heavy metal as much as they were just hard/blues rock. Don't get me wrong, I love Led Zeppelin a lot, but Black Sabbath was the first true heavy metal band.
STOPPPPPP!!!! Helter Skelter? Blue cheer was together before that was written AND one song does not a genre make, ITS SABBATH. THE KINGS of metal. NOW lets leave it alone
charlie, distorted guitars doesn't constitute heavy metal. Its not the only ingredient obviously. Metal has its roots in blues as well, but just out of curiosity tell me which of these bands you are referencing were singing about the devil, killing the pope, burning bodies etc ? Here's a true story, one night in 1984 i was typing a letter to one of my college professors and the damn typewriter kept jamming. I picked the entire machine up and threw it out my dorm window, It was the first letter that traveled through space to be delivered so technically I invented e-mail.....
It's cool that they included some of the more obscure songs in the set like Megalomania, which they did as an instrumental. I would like to have seen more of that, just to hear those riffs and section again would be nice.
I've never seen Tony being so actively self conscious about his injured hand before in an interview, I wonder if the interviewer made some mention about it before filming.
wow! what a trip, to see and hear him, after so many years, i never had, i mean i was a wee lad, seven yrs old, in 1972 and was a fan of black sabbath even then! i always wondered, who these guys were, their records were all i knew of them, i guess that was enough! but they were good sports! it's nice that they , finally, got to re-unite with ozzy, that was very kind of him, i'd say! haha!

I hope Iommi gets back together with Tony Martin again. I saw them in in Feb 1994 at the state theater in Detroit, MI. with the Iommi, Butler, Martin, Rodinelli line-up, with Morbid Angel and Motorhead opening up. And it was the loudest concert I've ever been to since it was in such a small place, fantastic sound. Nonsense boys. Thing was, that Bill was overweight and out of shape and he will not survive even one show, not whole tour. He was proposed to do just the last concerts in Birmingham and get to the shape in mean time, but he refused, he want the whole tour, which was not possible at his condition ...
There;s been interview about this with Tony's manager. Also look at some late interviews with Bill and you can clearly see, that he will be not fit for tour (not even for signle gig in my opinion)

Billy Arsenault actually its safe to say the Beatles did. Listen to helter skelter
The kinks "you really got me" distorted sound found by accident, heavy riff... kinks very likely launched both punk and metal simultaneously.
