E38 M60 Knocking sound

  • Thought it might have been a bent connecting rod (long story) turns out it was just some loose spark plugs and deteriorating coil boots.

    No problem. I will be watching my coils, because I feel like I may have a coil pack going bad. Also, my chain guides just grenaded, so I'm working on that now. We'll see how that changes thing. Thanks!

    Sorry for the late reply. Been good ever since... In my case it was 100% from a loose spark plug. Did any of your spark plugs refuse to tighten entirely? Could possibly be a damaged thread perhaps, though fairly unlikely. That being said, many things could make this noise so if you're sure your plugs are snug and your coil boots are in fine shape, it's time to look deeper. Check all around your plugs for any signs of scorching or arcing too ;)

    Is this still fixed, or has it returned? My car has this same sound. After watching this, I checked my plugs and coil boots - both seem fine. I even removed and re-tightened my spark plugs.
